19
With the PS3's launch late last year, 2007 marks the system's first full year of existence. But it was no ordinary year for games, as several killer "must-have" titles have shown what the PS3's extra muscle can do. But what's a user to do with so many pieces to choose from? IGN's picked 10 of the biggest and best releases of the year that everyone with a PlayStation 3 should play.

1 - Um...
Virtua Fighter 5???
Who would you get that when Tekken: Dark Resurrection is cheaper, has more characters, is ONLINE, and got better reviews? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard...
Also...Heavenly Sword goes WAYYYYY before VF5. Why didn't they put it on there?

Try Uncharted by renting or better yet buy it. You won't regret it. It's worth your game time.

I was actually suprised Haze didnt make the list. Virtua Fighter 5 while a decent game should not be on the list and neither should orange box. Haze, Heavenly Sword, Guitar Hero 3 any of these games could of been on the list instead.

Quote: "But it was no ordinary year for games, as several killer "must-have" titles have shown what the PS3's extra muscle can do."
First they gang bang Assassin's Creed with a 70 on PS3 and then add it to their buyer's guide?
anyway...
how about... UT3 there? its coming this year for PS3 right? or... Haze? I personally think Heavenly Sword should be there, but since it got slammed by IGN's review and how they toss crap on PS3 they shouldn't even have a list.
My top 10 for this year will be (only 2007 titles):
01. Call of Duty 4
02. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
03. Warhawk
04. Heavenly Sword
05. Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
06. Assassin's Creed (since I already pre-ordered it^^)
07. Ninja Gaiden Sigma
08. Folklore
09. Motorstom
10. Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online

10 - Stennex PS3 top 10 for 2007 are :
Stennex PS3 top 10 for 2007 are :
01. Call of Duty 4 (Both single & online play are incredible.)
02. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune(Jaw Dropping. Not Tomb Raider for sure.)
03. Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction (Pixar)
04. Heavenly Sword (Heavenly)
05. Warhawk (One of the best online games i have played)
06. Assassin's Creed (Jaded)
07. Ninja Gaiden Sigma(Hacking & Slashing never looked so GOOD)
08. Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection Online (wha can i say its Tekken)
09. Motorstom (Phenomenal Graphics & Physics. Next version blow me)
10. Folklore (I thought FFX was the weirdest RPG. Not.Good graphics)
These might be my top 10 but the fact that these and more are available for the PS3 goes to show that Sony means business. Most of the top tens are first party titles, and there are more to come. I am a member of the Gamers Advisory Panel(GAP)for Sony, and thanks to MS Sony has woken back up. Now there is a reason to want to kick A@$. Competition does work. PS3 has so many features my head spins. I am never bored. Next year will prove big as i am also a Home beta tester and that free online environment is going to be really really amazing. No brags just facts. Rendering alone is amazing.

11 - i have to say
that was a pretty crappy list (referring to the topic, not anyone above me).
my list is more like this (in no particular order)
Folklore - intriguing mystery story with fantastic visuals and music, and addicting gameplay. Rather lengthy at about 15 hours. Exclusive to Playstation 3.
Heavenly Sword - great story, beautiful graphics, motion capture, facial animations, and music. combat is fun and fun to watch. Short but sweet. Exclusive to Playstation 3
Resistance: Fall of Man - for those that are new to the PS3, or haven't picked it up yet, Resistance is a sweet FPS. the story is awesome and well presented, the graphics are decidedly first generation, but look solid on an HDTV (i'm running a 40" LCD 720p Samsung). 40 players simulatneous online with zero lag. Solid single player, solid multiplayer = great gift item, or personal purchase. Playstation 3 exclusive.
Warhawk - for a fantastic online experience, hands down, Warhawk is the best game on the PS3. 32 players simultaneous with no leg. air to ground combat, sweet weapons, and, like Resistance, a strong online community. Playstation 3 exclusive.
Ratchet and Clank Future - one of the most visually stunning games out on the Playstation 3, and the second Insomniac game on the list (Resistance being the first), the action/platforming hybrid works damn near perfectly. Insomniac knows how to make a game, and how to work with new and complicated technology. Playstation 3 exclusive.
Assassin's Creed - i'm only a few hours into this game, but i'm failing to see why it's been scoring 7's. the graphics are great (excellent draw distances, not to mention the design for the main character, Altair, is pretty damn wicked), climbing on practically *ANY surface and leaping from rooftop to rooftop never gets old (man, if only the Spider-Man games had animation this smooth), the combat system is like a fine dance (i've just recently mastered the counter-attack system, which isn't too hard to do, honestly), and the story is intriguing enough to string you along and keep you playing. the main draw, however, is the lifelike city at your disposal. i don't think we'll ever have that "AWW GEE-WHIZ" feeling from open-world games anymore after GTA3, but this one is still remarkable. Also avaiable on the X Box 360.
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - i've only played the demo of this game, but that was enough to sell me on it's multi-hyphenate gameplay mechanics and pulp fiction atmosphere. graphically, it's probably the most gorgeous video game on the Playstation 3, and arguably, the most gorgeous video game on consoles right now, given that, unlike another beautiful game, Gears of War, Uncharted has *HUGE, wide open areas and vistas, instead of corridors that, while setting the mood perfectly for a tense, claustrophic sci fi story, don't show off nearly as much real estate. gunfights are fun, fisticuffs are also nice (i love running up to, and drop-kicking a pirate in the face), and the platforming elements bring to mind the vertigo inducing moments of Ico. Must have for any Playstation 3 owner. PS3 exclusive.
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga - i put this on my list, because, well, i love those damn Legos! me and my fiance have been having a ball with this game, just like we did with the original, the bonus here, though, are a few new levels, and the fact that now since the two trilogies are combined, characters and secrets unlocked in the prequels, carry over into the classic trilogy (hooray for invulnerability by The Empire Strikes Back!). like Ratchet and Clank, this is a perfect game for families. Also available on multiple consoles and the PC.
The Orange Box - i've only play Half Life 2, but considering that Valve rocks, and there's like, four or so games in this $60 package, how can you *NOT pick this up? Also available on the X Box 360 and the PC.
Unreal Tournament 3 - this series has been one of the most critically and commercially respected franchises out there, and it's brought to us by the folks that made Gears of War. with a streamlined Unreal Engine 3, this game is looking fan-fricking-tabulous on the Playstation 3, and the inclusion of a single player story means folks like me, who are primarily single player gamers (i'd say i'm a 90/10 split in favor of single player games), may have a reason to give it a try. i have no doubts the multi-player will be as fun and chaotic as it's predecessors. like Naughty Dog (Uncharted), and Insomniac (Ratchet and Clank and Resistance), Epic has a strong pedigree, so i'm expecting this game to be sweet. i highly doubt Epic will want to miss out on the prime holiday shopping season, so i'm expecting a release of Unreal Tournament 3 by Christmas 2007. Midway *HAD to report something to their board and investors, so i'm about 70/30 in favor of the game releasing this Christmas season. Also available (for 2007, at least), on the PC.
Haze - Free Radical makes good games. period. the Timesplitters series was always fun, and the team was founded by former members of Rare, who worked on the classic GoldenEye game no the N64. if anything, Haze will be fun, if not gripping in it's narrative. Playstation 3 exclusive
Runner ups -
Motorstorm - an oldie but goodie, with *LOTS of downloadable content already available.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma - may be a bit too hard and frustrating for the casual to mid-range gamer, but a solid title, regardless.
Virtua Fighter 5 - online enabled or no, this is one of the best fighting games ever. period.
Tekken Dark Resurrection - for those that just *HAVE to have their online cake and eat it to, DR is a great choice, for a great price. while not as technical as VF5, Tekken is perfect for someone that just wants to jump in, play a few rounds (with people from nearly *ALL skill-levels), and have a good time, as well as the hardcore fighting fan.
The Darkness - unique gameplay mechanics and a solid story make this a game to have.
Call of Duty 4 - not my cup of tea, but none the less a solid FPS.
GRAW2 - in the same vein as COD4 in my book, but 3PS (3rd person shooter), instead of FPS. good game, just not for me.
Rainbow Six Vegas - GRAW 2 but in first person. and set in Vegas. good times, though.
bottom line; there's too much sh*t coming out, and out already, and not enough cash to get it all.
