Resistance: Fall of Man Sequel Ready for Pre Alpha Testing

Ian Ennis of Ripten.com recently got word from a supposedly "trusted source" that the upcoming Resistance Fall of Man sequel is ready for the pre-Alpha testing stage.

Being that there almost has been no information given or screenshots. Its hard to tell what this game will be like. However, as Ian Ennis of ripten.com said,

"After the initial testing is over, we may see a lot of buzz around this game as testers talk about their experiences. Whatever the case may be, I'm hopeful Resistance 2 will be a smash success just like the first."

They must have been moving people in development from R&C to Resistance as soon as the engine was being finalized and all that were left were glitches and tweaks. These people really know how to tune out quality games at a good steady rate. The amazing thing is that Insomniac is suppose to be the best developer to work for as they have weekly lan parties on Fridays, good benefits, and a very casual atmosphere.

I feel your pain 2008 is going to cause gamers to go bankrupt. I just bought Call of Duty 4, Mario Galaxy, Assassin's Creed, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Halo 3, and Mass Effect.

That would have cost me over $400 had I not bought them from gamefly for only $300 (have 10% off and -$10, but I bought Mario at Toys r us)

Now I have to buy MGS4, Killzone, Resistance 2, Final Fantasy 13 vs., Super Smash Bros., GTA 4, and possibly God of War 3, and Gears of War 2.

I hope they make Resistance 2 multiplayer very similar to Warhawk. Have a bunch of vehicles that you can duke it out with (old fighter planes, and chimeran? vehicles), and add more crazy weapons. I know this game is going to be good, the first Resistance was my favorite shooter since GoldenEye on Nintendo 64, and that's saying something.

I wonder what Insomniac is going to do graphically with this game. The frist Resistance had good graphics and great gameplay, Ratchet and Clank had great graphics and great gameplay; Therefore, I expect Resistance 2 to have mind blowing graphics and gameplay (Hopefully gameplay looks as good as the first games cutsceens).

I think Resistance is becoming Sony's Halo more so than Killzone (Killzone is Sony's Gears of War).

Man, you already know R2 is going to be running at 60fps since it's the same engine from the first and Ratchet. Insomniac is living up to their names man please give us super dope online warfare with vehicles from both sides!! I seriously don't know how they can improve the weapons from the first, but if anyone can do it it'll be them.

Grand Theft Auto 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy 13, Resistance 2, God of War 3..........

Man, the list goes on... usually, you only get 2 or 3 AAA games a year, but that's FIVE games that have AAA potentials.... I'm like HOMER salivating over a donut right now.

I could only think of one game I'd like to play next year on 360 and that's Gears of War 2.

2008 is Sony's to lose in the gaming industry...

P.S. I forgot about Little Big Planet..... that's 6!!! Help me out guys, I know I'm missing something...... :S

19 - I say to everyone -

enjoy these years. They may be some of the best ever for a gamer. I grew up in the birth of the NES and now am living in what is cleary a zeitgeist moment of the gaming Age. People need to recognize what is going on here. The games coming out are going to be amazing for the PS3, even the ones for the 360 and the Wii will amaze people, but everyone sees and is starting to see that the PS3 games are what are truly cutting edge.

Even the early games like Genji that may have lacked certain features in one area due to launch constraints, will still have managed to pull off some other feat with ease and be just as unexplainable and beautiful. (I'd like to see Genji 2 done with proper cameras. Still the beauty of that game is undeniable and still in my collection.) Devs like Insomniac, Incognito, Polyphony, Media Molecule, and Team Ninja to name a few, are quietly making people witnesses to the *truth, worldwide.

Level Streaming, which is something that they didn't implement into Ratchet. Their engineers are tackling the PS3 one feature at a time, and making sure that everything results in better performance. Luckily, Insomniac has two game directors: one for the Ratchet series, and one for the Resistance series.

Can't wait to see the animation and physics implemented in Resistance 2.

25.3 - Normally, games load all level, enemy, animation, sound, and scripting data at once

into system memory. But this severly limits how big that data can be. Thus, texture streaming frees up a lot of space for other things. It also allows the game engine to take up more memory.

Instead of squeezing in say 200MB of texture data for a level into Main RAM, they can instead continuously stream 1GB of texture data off the disc as you traverse through a level. Level of Detail becomes really important in order to maintain huge draw distances, but it does help a lot.

Level streaming is more complex because it means that Polygon Data, Scripts, sound, and even enemies are being streamed off the disc as well. That also means that we'll be seeing much higher polygon counts and even more variation in animation and sound (and even enemies) within Insomniac's titles. A lot of other developers (a.k.a Guerilla Games) are doing this as well.

50 Gigabyte Blu-ray Discs are suddenly a lot more relevant, and 75~100 Gigabyte Blu-ray Discs might come into usage within two or three years as PS3 developers really get a handle on data streaming to enhance their games.
