EGM Gives 5/10 to Folklore, 8/10 to Eye of Judgement

1.No matter what, 5 is beyond low for Folklore.
2.Kinda funny, getting 9/10 from IGN, 5/10 from EGM. I thought reviews were there to help us decide not confuse us...

Besides, it also got a 7.5 and an 8. Which is better than an 5.5. It's only one persons review. Also, glad to see them liking eye of judgment

Folklore a 5..??...I have that game...it great..these reviewers need to put there preferences aside when reviewing games...i cancelled my EGM subscription a long time ago...they've become completely biased in the last couple of years....

Folklore, we all knew it was a love it-hate it affair. It either scored very highly, or very low.

Eye of Judgement is very niche, and what it does, it does exceedingly well, which is why it got 8 across the board.

folklore is a good game....not great but a 5? i think not....and why is egm lagging with its revie of the game? anyway i havent finished it since i have been playing HALO 3 , guitar hero 3 and i just got MANHUNT 2 on the Wii and ratchet and clank.....too many games!!!!!! of course never a bad thing :)

Nope, nothing biased about this submission. Nothing at all. No, Folklore didn't also get a 7.5 and 8.0. That's just your imagination! And Eye of Judgment only received one score instead of three because it's just special.

Folklore is fun, the mistake people make is playing both characters at the same time. You should finish the game with one character, then go back and play with the other character to finish the story.

they never choose the high scores,they look at the low scores.like the mart.

just like they look at multiplatform games to compare console strength,and not in house games.

just like they look at U.S. bluray sales of 2:1,instead of 9:1 or 4:1 in other regions of the world.

just like they look at the lower end ps3 not having BC,but forget,you can get a higher model with all the goodies.

just like they look at lair scores from boneheads,but forget that motorstorm,warhawk,resistance, vf5,etc., are on the ps3 and are great.

just like they look at a few(very few) ps3 systems breaking,and disregard that the other 99% work fine.

just like they look at a tree in the background of GT5,and look the other way from the 16 smoking cars at 1080p at 60fps running on the nice looking track with great lighting.

these guys are losers.like mart.

the only ones that call ps3 games average are:

a)360 fanboys who have 360 already.(why get a ps3,we have the greatest system ever.........hm..hmmm..hahahah ahaa!)

b)360 fanboys who don't like japanese games or platformers,but love shooters.(because they buy those games in BULK like halo3 and gears.and will buy COD4 in bulk as well.(poor,poor games like kameo and viva pinata.sniffff! wish banjo kazooie luck for me will ya?)

c)360 fanboys who have never "PLAYED" the games in question on ps3.(i have not played that game,but it obviously sucks and is not "AAA" because metacritic said so.good thing they played it for me.instead of letting me decide for myself.)

i love Folklore. its one amazing game with a really great story and beautifull landscapes. the hellworld with the waterfalls is just wow. love the sixaxis in this game. i have had people over who were like: what the hell why are u shaking your controller. so funny.

I love the game (I also played the japanese version FolksSoul) and I think it has way more pros than cons. A 5 is somewhat of a insult for this kind of game because I don't see how the score is justifiable.

that's pretty crazy. personally, i'd give it an 8.5 to 9/10.

i'm in Chapter 5, and i've sunk about 15 or more hours into the game, just leveling up my various folks (and there are a *LOT of folks to collect).

the story is intriguing, if not clumsily translated sometime (ie, the dialogue can be very over the top and melodramatic). i like the mystery element in the narrative, as not many RPG's go the modern murder mystery route (excepting Indigo Prophecy, and a great game called Shadow of Destiny, which is a year one PS2 game).

the actual gameplay is very fun, and i think the soul collecting mechanic is addicting. i think i understand the Pokemon crowd a bit more after playing this game, as there really is a "gotta catch'em all" feel to Folklore. interestingly enough, i imagine the EGM guys probably like Pokemon, so i can't see what the problem would be here.

you'd think the game would get repetitive, and in a sense, it *IS, in that you just go from area to area, defeating monsters and collecting folks, but the strategy comes in when you have to figure out *WHICH folks to use to defeat certain other folks. it can be quite tense and hectic when you're getting pounded by an enemy, and you're feverishly trying to find the right creature to do the job (at the beginning of the game, this seems rather easy, but once you have 20, 30, 40 or more folks at your disposal, it gets crazy, but never frustrating).

the art design of this game is *FANTASTIC, and it's another game that proves that "Next Gen" isn't just various shades of brown and grey. the world is colorful, and unique. it has a very European feel to the art design, from the town of Doolin, to the various Netherworld locations you visit, and even down to the creature designs. This makes sense, considering that the game takes place in an Irish town. Also, the guys at Game Republic should be given credit for the nice amount of detail they put into the world and characters. particles of dust (almost fairy like) float about the air, feet find footholds in nooks and crannies while your character traverses the landscape. hair flows and coats and skirts sway with the movement.

Helping the artwork sell the world is a beautiful musical score. It has that same magical, yet slightly dark feel that John William's "Harry Potter" score does. The music is also laced with that European feel like the art, so it never seems "off" or out of place like some other games have done.

the main characters, and the supporting characters are well-conceived and developed. they all have this sort of cartoonish quality to their personalities. almost archetype like. there's the scholar, the doctor with a secret and his wife, the jilted, emotionally crippled lover (who also happens to be in a wheelchair, i'm assuming it's metaphorical), and the gruff bartender with more heart than he leads on. all of these characters also have a skeleton or two in their closet, that, during the course of the game, you help them work out (some of it is optional side quests).

outside of some spotty voice-acting (which is mainly contributed to the odd choice of dialogue), i don't have any complaints about the game.

it's not short, it's pretty, it has an addicting play mechanic (collecting and maxing out your folks), it has a solid, intriguing story, and most importantly, it's fun.

a 5/10 from EGM is a slap in the face to the obvious effort put into designing this game.

i know everyone has differing opinions about games, but it seems to me like they aren't even giving credit where it's due in this game.

a 7/10 would have been fairer, but a *FIVE out of 10? come on, at least *PRETEND to not be full of sh*t and biased.

also, the fixed camera is only in town areas, where you're doing nothing but talking to NPC's. when in the game proper, and during battle, the camera is completely controllable. also, a little something called the L3 or R3 button recenters the camera behind you *EVERY time.

to me, this sounds like, once again, a reviewer being paired up with the wrong game (it'd be like me reviewing Madden, and i *HATE football).

of people on this saying "oh EGM is biased". Well, first off there were three scores for Folklore which were: 5.5, 7.5, and 8.0. Two of those scores are not bad, in fact none of them are bad. If you look on their grading scale 5.0 is average and 7.0 and above is good. Second, are people paying attention to the Eye of Judgement scores? Those are three eight's right there. That is a definite good across the board. Plus, oh, how about Ratchet and Clank Future: TOD scores? It got a 8.5, 9.5, and a 9.0. Those are two great scores plus a very good score.
