Guitar Hero III PS3 Having Wireless Dongle Issues?

Evidently there seems to be a problem with the wireless dongle that is included with the PS3 version of Guitar Hero III

1UP comments that:

"With Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock on store shelves, players are getting their first taste of this Fall's guitar releases. Getting wireless up and running on all the machines has been a bit of an issue, however, with both Guitar Hero and Rock Band having to develop their own dongle-based wireless systems on PlayStation 3, as the tools to hook into the hardware's Bluetooth features apparently weren't ready just yet."

Never had that happen, not once. You may be confusing something that happened to 10 people once with something that doesn't happen to most of the other 4+ million users.

There's a chance, of course, that this story is true but it says that it is not substantiated. In the comments of the story, plenty of people are saying they haven't seen the issue.

This is a non-story so far, but the people who like to knock 'the other' console down will undoubtedly have a field day with it in any case...

Now I remember why I put you on my ignore list.

I have never ever had a single problem with my PS3 controller and I know of no one else who has had any issue what so ever with the controller.

I think you are so full of yourself you actually believe most of the the stuff you say as fact.

2 - Haven't had any issues...

with it. It was a little confusing at first setting the guitar with the dongle, but once I got it up and running it works fine. Mart are you just the most biased person ever. Is there anything that you like at all about Sony. Whats your deal? Did the PS2 hurt you in some way when you had one. I know you had one at some point in your miserable Sony hating life.

Only time my controllers have ever dropped is if I let the battery get very low.

Other than that, they have never dropped.

5.2 - Sony...

I like much of what they do, but they're still getting used to the whole idea of 'opening up'. They used to keep everything secret and make as much as they can proprietry.

For example - memory sticks. When the PS3 came out, they stuck a CF and SD card slot in it. 5 years ago, they never would have opened up to doing such a thing.

Another example - dropping ATRAC on their latest Walkman. Embracing MP3 and dropping ATRAC wouldn't have been an option years ago.

Bluetooth on the PS3 is just one of those things they haven't yet opened up to the masses. The developers can get hold of the libraries but the 'authorisation' process is too long and arduous right now (expect for Logitech I understand, who spent the time jumping through the hoops and hurdles).

Sony are slowly opening up and removing the red tape and as they do, more and more devices will be compatible with the internal Bluetooth.

Rockband did it because Sony opened up Bluetooth wireless so it really isn't an excuse for Guitar Hero III. The 360 version didn't include a wireless guitar because of MS proprietary wireless system.

I preffer a small wireless issue rather than have an ugly-lookin USB expander with its own power brick that needs to be plugged in at all times *ehem*on360*ehem* lol :P nah jk i like the 360 version, i just wished they somehow made it wireless >.<

No problems for me and my PS3. I just wish I could have 2-player. Anyone have any suggestions for a good converter so I can use my PS2 controller for a second player? I was at Gamestop (shame, I know) and they said a bunch of people were returning their converters because they didn't work right with Guitar Hero. Anyone have one that works?

@ TheMART - You aren't the only one I've seen point out that REAL electric guitars have wires attached. I hate to break it to you, but a lot of your rock bands these days have wireless setups (such as these - http://www.zzounds.com/cat-... at their concerts so they aren't limited by wires/cables.

7.1 - Unfortunately...

There is no converter to make old GH PS2 guitars work on the PS3.

If someone were to manufacturer one, it would have to have the PS button on it somewhere. And apparently there's a big button mapping issue that makes it impossible anyway - I remember Red Octane themselves said it was totally un-doable.

Hence why I took mine back very early on (March in fact) to maximise my pre-owned return revenue! By the time everyone else starts putting their old guitars in, no-one will give you anything for them...

8 - Obviously the purpose of this article...

...is to spread misinformation about the PS3 version of Guitar Hero 3. Especially since the majority of the guitar problems are connected to the Xbox 360 version. (Visit the forums on guitarhero.com and you'll see what I mean). All of the guitars from each system are having problems, not just the PS3 version, which is very minimal if at all.

I own the PS3 version and play this game almost every day and I've never had guitar problems of any sort. From what I've seen on the guitarhero forums, neither have the huge majority of other people who own the PS3 version.

Well i dunno about the PS3 but the WII version is ROCK SOLID..

Tilt Sensor works great, Strumming and frets respond really well and i Like that it has Rumble. And the weight of it is nice too cause it feel like i'm playing a regular guitar. and from what i see on here.. nobody is complaining about the WII version of the LES PAUL. :-)

12 - Beat easy and medium already.

I have had the game three days now. I call BS. I have a wii, wireless surround sound speakers, wireless conn to the internet on PS3, a laptop comp wireless conn to the internet that my girlfriend is always on while I'm playing, and no issues at all. The only issue I'm having is getting too many 200 note streaks. PINCH!

13 - WELL...FYI...

Taking my Guitar Hero III bundle back to Best Buy tomorrow. The guitar keeps acting like the batteries are low when they are brand new. Shut off all of my other wireless devices just to make sure, but for sure the PS3 guitars have major issues. I dont think it's the fret issue people are talking about either. Crappy. Oh well, COD4 and Lego Star Wars it is.
