Unreal Engine 4.0, Epic's "Long-range research project"

Mark Rein, VP of Epic Games stated,

"Unreal Engine 4 will be totally groundbreaking and the way games will be done in the future..."

"We're not ready to say anything more about the next Unreal Engine at this point in time. For now it's a long-range research project."

I dont think it will be that long. The engine has already been in development for 3 years, so I think we might start to see tech demos for it in about 2 years or so.

Let's see... UT2003 was released 2002-2003, that was the first game with Unreal Engine 2.5 (the latest engine except for UE3)
Now that was 5 years ago.. YES!! UE4 will probably come in another 4-5 years

It will launch most likely around time for the next set of consoles and next batch of Graphics upgrades. 2009-2012. PCI Express 3 and DirectX 11 are most likely set for 2010. If that is any indication.
