The New PlayStation 3: CECHG01 Model - A Few Unforementioned Details

Anyone who's seen SponG's report about the new PS3 model should already have been expecting all of this.

But after reading the report a few days ago, Rumor Reporter Bruce has more details to report on the new PlayStation 3, as he has obtained an un-edited copy of the initial FCC report. Here are the things to note that's not in the previous reports on this topic:

1.) The new PS3 model uses less power than the other models. This one uses 3A (Power Measurement), while the older version use 3.3A and 3.2A respectively.

2.) The new PS3 will include a brand-new controller, most likely the recently announced Dual-Shock 3 (this is proven in the document)

3.) The new PS3's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth hardware has seen a significant upgrade, possibly allowing for longer distances and even faster connections.

4.) He has heard dripplings of a 65nm chipset coming soon. Could this model be the very first in the line of quieter, less-power consuming PS3 models?

All of the images have been attached below. But let's get to the point. Will there be a 40GB PS3 for $399? Maybe. Will there be a new PS3 announced in the next two weeks? Count on it.

seems more like updated hardware rather than extra hardware when comparing the 40 to 80. like the new PSP2K, the only thing thats really new is the video output, everything else was mostly an upgrade/downgrade.

Odion...65nm chips are cheaper to manufacture (just harder to tool for manufacturing wise)...producing PS3's with 65nm chips will cost Sony less than the current size...Just like the 360 "falcon" or w/e you people call it...

its not an upgrade that would cost consumers more...

i guess you are used to microsoft's way of doing business.. you know, there are other companies that actually give you more for less.. you know, the way sony offered the 60GB for the same price as the old 20GB, then offered the 80 GB with a game for the same price as the 60GB.. prices don't always have to go up

it will be stupid for putting a 40 GB HDD in it... because 40GB HDD 's production costs is exactly same as 60 and 80 now days.. may be 1 or 2 bucks difference..

so they must be stupid for not using bigger storage for same price..

I think they will cut 60GB and 80 GB price to 399 and 499.. and then sell this one with motorstorm or sth else in 599..

may be 120 or 160 GB HDD ,65 nm chips.. Dual shock 3 and a game for 599 would be amazing deal..

and 80 GB for 499 with 2 games ... is amazing too ..

just remember Kaz hirai Words.. they wont cut prices to 399 .. they will make starter packs with more stuff in same price..

wow everyone is entitled to your own opinions and speculations but you are as far out there as you can get. It has already been confirmed to have a 40 Gb HDD and also many sources mention it has no backward compatibility and only 2 USB ports, along with none of the fancy variety of memory card slots and etc. SO - You lose HDD space, peripheral variety, and USB's, for paying less, but as with all new hardware..lower or higher price it doesnt matter..its gonna have upgraded components as they are always getting better as time goes on. Idc if sony released a $99.99 PS3-Junior in a year it would still have better upgraded components cuz that is where the technology is at that time, simply

But it yet is said to describe this as a completely new sku. It may be perhaps the 40gb sku but we shall see. It is however, cool news for the next set of owners as they will be getting a few new upgrades. I do wish they were able to include the EE chip but that is what people get for being lat adapters. Glad I got one in my PS3! ;-)

This is all really cool news and all, yea it's a big thing that prolly everyone was looking forward to seeing - a price cut. BUT...I am looking a little deeper than this: Don't you get the feeling SONY is gonna surprise us with an exclusive game being moved up, or HOME, or something big like that? My reason being SONY unbelievably admitted in an interview that which many consumers have been pointing out - what good is a price cut with no software to back it up? They said the reason they mentioned at TGS no price cut for these holidays is that a price cut alone wont drive sales..they need AA/AAA exclusive games coming out WITH ther price cut, which is why they said they waiting till next year. Admitting that planning flat out, don't you think they might be planning a little surprise with one of their games?

$399.99 PS3 before 07 Holidays is for sure.
But...
Could we possibly see $399 with surprise release of HOME?
Possibly MGS4 will be announced in time for xmas? Theres been rumors.
Something big with FF?
A PS3 gamercard system, which HAS ACTUALLY been found in a UT3 demo, much to the dismay of the UT3 devs "Oh...you shouldnt have seen that.."

I think something else is coming too...your thoughts?

I just think it's highly unusual that one day they say to the public they won't go cheap with their PS3 unless they have powerhouse software, then mere weeks later they do it...strange

Sony started out with "full" compatability before the switch to emulation. The list shrank quite a bit with thar move, but may increase over time and hopefully with a graphical update like the Xbox 360 does. I'm not sure how you can remove backwards compatability from the new PS3 sku since it is done through emulation. Yanking the extra memory ports which are probably never used anyway is a great move if it reduces the price of the console and as long as Sony has a wi-fi accessory solution they should yank that too. A $399 or even $449 PS3 is desperately needed at this time.

i think the surprise will be:
1- the new sku.
2- the new games from ICO,SOE,eat sleep and play studios.
3- the rumored frameware update(i hope).
4- maybe HOME and Dual shock3 coming this fall(i hope).
5- the new FFVII.
6- they will show us FFXIII,FFversusXIII trailers
7- maybe they will show us GOW3.

and about the price cut i think it,s coming when the new sku released,
and kaz harai was pointing that the price cut must be combined with AAA games,you see in japan the new psp model was released along with FFVII crisis core and look the sales for the system spiked outselling even the DS by a huge margin.(don,t forget that in the next weeks psp will get another AAA games like FFtactics,castlevania so it,s all about timing).

PSP : about 265k
Wii : about 27k
DSL : about 65k
PS3 : about 10~11k
360 : under 2k

the point is sony know exactly the perfect time to cut the price and introduce and new sku.
they are incredibley smart.

first off..why do you have socom in your name and yet you rag on the ps3. second ms has twice as many skus as sony, and the major point of discussion on that is the selling of a hddless console. it lowered the standards that devs had to work with. they had to risk selling a game that requires an hdd and have a part of the xbox population not buy it because they are illequipped. or sell a game that doesnt need hdd but takes a lifetime to load and limits space on the disk.

at this point i am actually ok with removing backwards compatiablity if it means lowering the price and selling more consoles. the odds are if you are looking to play ps2 games on your ps3, you already have a ps2. and if your ps2 is modded to play "back-ups" and you sold all your games to gamestop to buy ps3 games...well you get the idea. anyways, as more great ps3 games come out, who has time for ps2 games?
also a 40gb harddrive is not bad either. if you really want a ton of room go buy another hdd. but 40gb will get it done for the average gamer. and again, if they negotiated a super low price for 40gb hdd and that lowers cost and makes sales go up..go for it. just lower the price already and sell some consoles.

18 - Since the main PowerBased PC core on the PS3...

... and any of the 3 PowerBased PC cores on the 360 are practically identical (expect that all 3 of the 360s use Vector 5 instead of the old Vector 4 the PS3s main core uses) I am not surprised to hear this 65nm chipset news.

Edit: Who the hell disagrees over something that is a fact? Look at both systems specs and you will see I am not lying about the vectors or the architecture.

Looks like Sony has successfully managed to revaluate its cost model. And the savings are going to be passed onto the consumer.. Good stuff!

There are too many rumors and reports going round for this to be false. Its no longer a question of 'If' but 'How soon'.

I think 40GB will be the only real difference on the PS3. There are so many ways to reduce costs without cutting corners, like sourcing components from other suppliers, negotiating cheaper assembly costs from different factories etc. Plus they may be prepared to take a few extra $ from their own margin to encourage sales.

40 gig makes no sense since it isn't much of a difference bettween 60 gig in money, the only difference i think that they'll lower 499 to 399 and will make 80 gig a 500bucks and the other consoles with all upgrades dualshock 3 ratchet and clank, spiderman3 and for 599
