GamerMetrics: Unreal Tournament III for Xbox 360 Delayed over Halo Hype?

IGN Entertainment's latest GamerMetrics report that among the nearly 15,000 gamers surveyed, the Xbox 360 version of Midway's Unreal Tournament III (UT3) has emerged with the strongest affinity to fans of Halo 3.

Based on the survey result, the report speculates that if the Xbox 360 version of UT3 had launched in November at the same time with its PS3 and PC versions, it might have been buried under an avalanche of Halo hype. But releasing it next year ensures that it will reach Halo 3 fans at a time when they might become more receptive. The report posits that the postponed release of the Xbox 360 version might have been a wise strategic move on the part of Midway President and CEO David Zucker.

this is win-win for Epic, on one side they do want to capitalize on the hype Gears of War generated on the 360, releasing it later allows them to maximize that and on the other side, by making it a timed console exclusive for PS3, they can soften the feelings of betrayal some PS fans may have felt.

That was a very smart move because HALO 3 is Kicken Azz.Gears Of War sold over 5 Million so Unreal Tournament 3 on the 360 should sale the same or close in 2008. PS3 fans can say what they want about the 360 as a SYSTEM, but the 360 fans buy games by the bunch and thats what counts.The way Halo 3 is selling is what Developers want to see,and this is going to bring Metal Gear Solid and FF to the 360 in 2008 this is not FLAMEBAIT its FACTS.

No, it's flaimbait. Because both developers have already announced that they only want their games out on the PS3. This was just reconfirmed AGAIN for both FF XIII games at TGS.

They really don't need the 360 for great sales numbers... the games will sale consoles and games by themselves.

And by the time UT3 is finally released on the 360... it'll be too late for the sales to catch up with the PS3 & PC versions. Make no mistakes about it, UT3 is going to sell VERY well on the PS3. Not Halo numbers of course, but it will likely sell 1M before the New Year even rolls around. When it comes to weapons, vehicles, graphics & online gameplay... it's simply the best fps title available.

Halo 3 was the biggest let down in Media History. Why run HDR lighting with absolutly no AA? Why have no rewind button in the theatre? The forge is nothing like a map editor should be called Forgery!

Bought a 360 to play that stupid game whats a let down. it doesnt even run at a solid 30fps!

Epic/Midway have nothing to worry about, frankly UT is going to blow Halo 3 away in everything but sales sadly enough... Stupid kids.

Yep, though personally I'm getting for PC since to me UR=mods=PC. Though I do here thats mods could be done on the PS3? I just rather have a key/mouse for a fast pace shooter.

From a couple of hours ago...

"Halo is great but I love UT. I'm almost glad that it's not coming out until next year for the 360. I can't afford any more games. I really think that UT3 was delayed for the 360 because it and Halo would have taken profits form one and other. Also, EPIC is probably trying to show some respect to the PS3. For the PS3 fans who haven't played UT 2004, you should get this game. And for the 360 fans who haven't played it, once you try it you will have a hard time going back to halo. If your a fan of online FPS games, this is all you will ever need.

Don't get me wrong, I love Halo too but UT is better for online play."

We'll be getting it too. I will be playin Halo 3 Live up until the release on the 360 just like he stated above. I think I can wait an extra month ot two. There really isn't a story for the game anyway so I think I can wait it out.

Makes absolutely no sense.

No sane Distributor will volunteerly delay a product to just AFTER the X-Mass sale, and release in the low sale months of March-April.

But thats what you get when you survey gamers, who, be realistic, have no ounce of business sense and most of them never made a more binding decision in their life then what burger to buy at BK. These kind of people are surely the ones to ask regarding a solid business decision about a multi million dollar investment.

Epic uses UT to showcase their Unreal Engine. That is the sole purpose of the game series. As Epic already has a showpiece on the 360 (gears anyone?) they have now focused on the PS3 and PC developer crowd and therefor focus development on those two systems. It is only natural that this results in the 3rd platform getting a little delay cause its not yet finished. Additional the deal with Sony got them a bunch of high profile hardware specialists to optimize the engine on the PS3 for free.

Bottomline: if the Xbox360 version was done by now, it would release. No distributor would miss out on the holiday sale, and Halo released early enough to not be such a big "shadow" in December anymore.

they could very well be trying to implement some sort of mod support intergration with live, Epic likes giving there fans new content and they dont want the 360 crowd to feel left out on the modding buiz would be my guess.

hell if they advertised UT3 it would sell plenty on whatever platform its released on. just becuase of how good it looks.

lol, please don't even dare to Halo 3 on the same level of Unreal Tournament III. Seriously, don't do it.

The only game that can hold a candle to UT III this year will be CoD 4. (in terms of graphics, gameplay, etc.).

I would put up Haze against Halo 3, but that's just me (no, not in trems of sales, not in terms of hype, just in terms of quality ;))
