Next Mortal Kombat "VS" Type?

While the Mortal Kombat universe has been dormant for the last few months, aside from the smattering of news about Ultimate Mortal Kombat for Nintendo DS, The guys over at TRMK have seen some signs of activity at the house of Mortal Kombat. Lately, they have started to hear a few rumblings around the Chicago-based developer in regards to the next title in the Mortal Kombat franchise, aka Mortal Kombat 8. The MK Team has in the past gone on the record in stating the the next Mortal Kombat game for this generation's consoles will feature a totally reinvented formula than the previous console-specific Mortal Kombat titles. Recently, the direction that Midway is considering on taking their most prized franchise has started to take shape.

Do not stray too far from what made the MK franchise what it was and is. MK with no fatalities is like Link with no Zelda. I hope is wont be a vs game. Please Mr. Boon..... Please. This game is a must have for me, please don't disappoint.

OMFG, Mortal Kombat news! MK news! After the horrible MK MMO rumors and other things, I want to see more of the darker Gears-ish MK NOW.
And both DC and Marvel are too childish compared to MK. Maybe Virgin characters might be a better choice (The Preacher Vs Johnny Cage!).

Mortal Kombat is garbage compared to the top tier fighters of today, really. Unless Ed Boon and his team can compensate, I don't see this franchise going anywhere. Aside from that point, it wouldn't make much sense making a VS series with Mortal Kombat. Like some of you said, if there's no fatalities, it's just not "Mortal Kombat".

Mortal Kombat just isn't a solid fighter. Period. Any true fighting fan with half a brain would know this. It's fun, but not solid.

MK is one of the best fighting games of all times and here's why: they rovlutionized fighting games as we know it MK, MKII, MKIII, all top notch games. Not to mention, even the later games had awesome combos and finishers that no other fighting game comes close to. You can't compare VF5 or SC to MK because they are almost 2 diffrent types of fighting games

Totally wrong. MK3 was very broken. Characters that weren't able to juggle (see Sub-Zero) were pretty useless. Just because the later games had silly looking combos, doesn't mean it was good. They were just as broken. Maybe I should PM you some links to MK video combos, just to prove how broken the engine is. :-/

Yes, I can compare VF and SC to MK. Virtua Figher features hand-to-hand combat, just like MK. Soul Calibur features weapon combat, just like MK.

You use words like "real fighting fans" to impose some kind of elitism. There isn't one "real fighting fan", there are various types. Some prefer 2D, some prefer 3D. Some prefer technical fighters, some prefer the jugglers. Personally I think that MK 2 was one of the greatest 2D fighters going. The later games never captured it, and it's first foray into 3D certainly wasn't good. But it's later 3D games showed some promise. I owned the Deception title, and it made excellent use of the powers and styles.

So yes, I disagree. It doesn't make you wrong, or me right. It means that we are of a different opinion. Don't pretend there is only one opinion on fighting games, it's silly.

The link is to Gamefaqs, where regular gamers give their views. What did the game score? Out of 29 reviews, there were 4 ten/ten, 12 nine/ten, 4 eight/ten, 3 seven/ten. So well over half were good reviews. I hope you enjoyed being shown up as simply an arrogant dude who over inflates his opinions.

Like I said, I'm not wrong for liking a game you don't, you're not wrong for the hating a game I like. It's opinions. Deal with it.

7 - Confused

I don't get it, I'm sure I read an interview where the MK dev stated that Armaggeddon was a farewell to the series. That was the reason they had absolutely every character from every MK in it. I'm very surprised.

The other thing that confuses me is the idea of an "MK VS ??" title. I can't see many other developers being happy with their brand including fatalities, nor can I see the point in an MK without fatalities. I mean the idea of "Mortal kombat vs street fighter" with fatalities is pant wettingly cool. Or any number of combinations, MK vs DOA, MK vs Tekken, MK vs SNK. So long as fatalities remain, that would be pretty slick.

8 - Where is Marvel vs. Capcom 3???

I mean part 2 was sooo great of a game with so many fighters to choose from, I would think that they would want to give it another go with that license. Then again, what about a Marvel vs. DC fighting game? They did it with the comics, so why not a game? I just know that Capcom better be working on a new Street Fighter game because I'm getting impatient! As far as a MK vs. game, there would have to be another franchise out there that matches the gore that we've come to know that is Mortal Kombat, and I don't know of any other franchise that easily comes to mind. The whole vs. phenomenom IMO is about to explode over all mediums. We had Freddy vs. Jason (which sucked btw) Marvel vs. Capcom and Xmen vs. Street fighter (both rocked) and so on, and it just feeds into what people want to and have always wanted to see, and that's crossovers of our favorite characters. Hopefully this becomes more of a reality.
