Three PS3 Rumors in Famitsu with White Knight Story's Release Date

onAXIS reports three rumors originated from the latest Famitsu magazine issue (9/18/2007.) One of the rumors says White Knight Story will debut on January 31, 2008 for 8,990 yen (US$78 or 56 Euros.)

The other two rumors are about a "megaton" announcement at the Tokyo Game Show that will supposedly save PS3 (onAXIS questions if the "megaton" could be the Final Fantasy VII remake) and a third-party game with development totally funded by Sony.

Level 5 said that White Knight Story was originally supposed to be a Playstation 3 *LAUNCH TITLE, but in order to make the date, they'd have had to cut the game in half, and they didn't want to do that, so they delayed it until it was finished.

i think that's the main reason why it looked so complete when they showed it off at last years TGS, it was about 50% or more done (which is quite a bit in game development time, but not close to final product).

so if it comes out in January in Japan, then i'm expecting a late summer, or fall/holiday release in the US and other regions.

i'm really stoked about this game, that's for sure.

as for the "PS3-saving megaton" from a third party? i'm in the camp that doesn't think the PS3 needs saving, just a cheaper price tag. there are good games for the system, and good games *COMING for the system, but that initial price hump is painful for a lot of people. the drop to $500 helped, but they need to release the $400 gig unit asap.

now that the 60gigs are out in the wild, i expect a $400 system to appear when the 80gig drops down to $500 (we know it will at some point soon).

if the 40gig rumor is just a rumor, then i wouldn't be surprised if the 60gig is the one to drop to $400, following the 80gigs price drop. we'll know soon enough, i suppose).

back on topic, what could the 3rd party megaton game be? i don't know, but it's probably an established and beloved franchise, or something so fantastically groundbreaking that it will capture the hearts of gamers everywhere. i'm gonna go with the former, as opposed to the latter.

FFVII remake? probably.
FFVI remake? man would *THAT be sweet.

we know it's not Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Super Mario Bros (lol, had to throw that in there), Contra, or Ninja Gaiden (2, as that won't exactly *SAVE the Playstation 3).

maybe a *NEW title? Bioshock? Mass Effect? Halo 3? lol.

of course, i think "megaton" is in the eye of the beholder, and very subjective. personally, i think games like Uncharted, and Little Big Planet are megaton enough for *ME and my particular tastes in games, but to some they aren't.

we'll just have to wait and see, really.

Hmmm, Famitsu is pretty reliable source... just as happen with the KH prequel.
I need that announce like now... really. The pain of waiting its excite ^_^
