Warhawk Demo? Sony says it won't happen
32
With the recent rash of demos popping up on the PlayStation Network, we were shocked to not see a small demo available for Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA)'s Warhawk. Rather than speculate, GameDaily asked Sony whether the company might release the demo to gamers who are considering purchasing the product.
Don't expect a Warhawk demo but at only $39.99 as a full download over the PlayStation Network, GameDaily's Chris Buffa summed it up best as, "Sony delivers a superb online experience with Warhawk, a beautiful combat game full of breathtaking scenery and plenty of chaos."

Well, they have a point. A limited demo may not fully show the game's awesomeness as few of recent demos have done more damage to their games than help.

Why would they release a demo for a game that 90% of ps3 owners already have?
If I was them ill release an add on content not a demo, theres no need for such thing.
Is just like asking for a demo after a week of halo3 launch date.
it would make no sense at all.

try 2.5% :P
There was an article about warhawk having sold 100k. There are roughly 4 million PS3s sold. you do the math.

6 - How would
a demo for an online only game work?
Time-limited?
"Plenty of chaos" - that sums up WH very nicely.
I love the fact that, no matter what your approach...run-n-gun, Jeep-dash, Tank, Warhawk, snipe, turrets...you need to watch your back at all times as none of these are safe. :)

As much as I would love to try Warhawk even though I know I want it,a demo would not work out with an "Online Only" game like Warhawk.

11 - You do not need a demo! Spend your $40 for the best game on the PS3 to date!
And play warhawk now...and in 2 years...Warhawk 2 will be out and it will blow us away again.
Also Warhawk has over 110,000 people in it and over 800 servers with over 125 Sony Dedicated ranked servers. They have fixed most of the early problems and warhawk is now solid.
If you have not bought it yet, you need to....

how would releasing a demo of Warhawk make them not buy it?...if anything it would help...but the game has plenty of people getting involved everyday...the leaderboard total is growing by thousands a day...
what Sony should eventually do is just release a trial version of the game...where you get the full game for like 3 days or something with everything included, but your PSN account and PS3's MAC address gets locked after the time period is up...sort of like renting it for free...anyone that would try it would probably end up buying it...it is just about as good as a war game can get...and if you are not interested in that type of gameplay, you wouldn't have trialed it in the first place...
won't be needed until sales slow though...its doing fine now...and especially nice that most of the bugs are gone now...still a few, stats can occasionally be iffy at times...but more patches are scheduled for this week...

14 - I Agree...
...with the general consensus of these comments; a demo just wouldn't work for Warhawk. However, rental stores (Hollywood Videos, at least) are carrying copies of Warhawk, so if you're not convinced yet, at least you can try it out. In the end, though, I also agree with what a lot of people are saying: just buy it! It's a really fun game at a really good price, whether you get it on the PSN or in stores (the headset works great).

im not suprised at all. a demo on an online only game?
chances are anyone who is a potential buyer has heard of the game and is going to buy it sooner or later. anyone who hasnt heard of it doesnt use their ps3 for games, or they are not very game savvy.

That's a shame, actually. I got to play this on my friend's PS3 (same with Lair), and I have to say it's pretty awesome.
A demo would convince more people to give it a try. Offer a "training version" w/limited online play--one or two levels/areas--so people can try before they buy.

I think a time-bombed demo that let you play for a week and then deleted itself - that you can only download once would be pretty cool for people who might be on the fence about the game. I just think Sony doesn't want to do something that outside of the normal framework - and really, why would they bother with it. The game is selling great as is and has a lot of buzz, positive word of mouth.

The demo doesn't need to capture the experience of the full retail game. After all, it is a D-E-M-O, as in, demonstration. It's just to give the player an idea of what to expect from the game, assuming he/she decides to purchase the game. You really want to know what I think? I believe Sony is just being lazy.

A bit off topic, but Sony needs more Demo's in general. Thats one of the areas Live has them beat, and seems like a silly area to be beat in. Demos kept me from buying some games, and caused me to buy others. Spread the Demo love Sony!!!
Ohh and you can easily do a Warhawk demo. Just make it so you cant rank past a certain number, say 3 or 4.

i think a trial version would be cool for those that aren't sure. i'm positive that if people had 2-3 days with the game, they'd be hooked and would buy quickly.

24 - A demo would be nice
I already have the game but I'm sure Sony could give a 'timed demo' meaning users can play in the game for maybe a few hours or the whole day just to get the feeling. This game is f*cking addictive.

Why is it that 360 has demos almost about every game there is and PS3 barely has any demos?
I guess all the games are so crap they don't want to show them to people. That would kill already sad numbers.
