Lair is just the start of the PS3-PSP link-ups, says Sony
30
The ability to play PlayStation 3 dragon-combat game Lair on the PSP has generated plenty of headlines in recent days. What's gained much less attention, however, is the fact that the feature is potentially available for all PlayStation 3 games.
Indeed when checking up on the Lair situation with a Sony technical insider, Pocket Gamer got the response: "It's a nice start. Over time, I'm sure we'll have more advanced features."

Have fun dodging without a right-analog stick.
Or trying to do the aftertouch/aerial combos. =p!
I see this as quite useless, to be honest.
I have two brothers, both love games. There's no way in hell if I'm out, and they're home, that I'll be able to use Remote Play instead of having THEM play whatever they wanna play >_<!

hmm i do agree 2.1 tbh.
This looks cool, and almost reason for me to buy a PS3 now aswell as they great games out next year....just think that the PSP is not deisgned well enough to implement this yet...ie button layout.
I can see ths PSP2 launching next year with possibly 4 back buttons and a 2nd stick...a complete replica of the SIXAXIS.
It will work great for some games such as racing but many will not work at the moment. But yes, Sony will obviously be aware of this and working on a solution as of now.

I agree they do need to redesign the button lay out. If they did that they would have me sold on it.

I'm hoping rockstar make GTA remore play compatible, I mean they've already got the controls sorted from the PSP versions. Maybe this is what Phil Harrison was talking about when he said they were discussing some things with rockstar. I can see the advert now "Play GTA IV anywhere in the world through your PSP....This is living"

Its true that most games won't work very well for this but the scope for driving games or slower paced RPGs is enormous. Also it would be nice if there was some sort of innovative GPS functionality (like in portable ops) brought to MGS4 via the PSP and remote play.
Interesting stuff indeed.

8 - they could do so much more ...
Support for higher level stream quality. If the home network can support HD quality streams, why not give it as an option? I do agree that PSP2 will take this even further. This is great for me because I get bumped off my TV cause the wife wants to watch a movie. Now, I could just turn on my PSP and continue playing. Bet you can't do that DS ;)

so how does this work?
It just streams the game off of your PS3 to the PSP?, but lets you use the PSP controls?...or does part of the game get transferred into a PSP format game, and its just a different version of Lair with the graphical hits to be played on the handheld?...stuff sounds cool, but I agree with some...I am not sure if I would ever use it...
and I had to change to a different ISP and get a new router (3 bricked routers because of firmware update crashes with the old ISP...they paid for them, but not dealing with it anymore)...and my media sharing is all screwed up now...does your home LAN have anything to do with it, or is it streamed through the internet for remote play?...

Same version, I believe the only difference is instead of sixaxis control, you use the analog stick. I expect there are other constraints but withouth having tried it (yet) I don't know, sorry.
Graphically, it seems very similar tho.

10.2 - i'll try my best to explain it
i've tried it, and it's very cool, but very flawed.
the Playstation 3 is sending a video image of what your television screen is doing to your PSP's display(that would be playing Lair).
the PSP, is sending button commands *BACK to your Playstation 3, which will translate to the necessary movement on screen.
it's very impressive, though imperfect.
of course, Lair is so gorgeous, it's hard for me to tear my eyes away from my big screen HDTV (the water in that game, the translucency of the wings when sunlight is shining through them, the sheer art design of this game is *IMPECCABLE. nothing is "shiny" like a lot of next gen games these days, unless rain or water is hitting it; weather effects are also impressive).
i think one of Sony's internal development teams should work specifically on designing games that function well on the PSP via Remote Play.
that way, they can utilize all of the fantastic processing power of the PS3, but you can enjoy it on the go.
and people though the PSP was a portable PS2. it's a portable PS3 *TOO! lol.
*sigh* damn i love my PSP (PS3 too)

that fps games on ps3 to psp would not be that great, but if motorstorm and racing games did so i would be really happy. Imagine playing motorstorm on ya psp at school ^^

there is a reason for this.look for it in the future.it will make whining about controls a non issue when it comes to remote play.

14 - this is great..............
i bought Lair just because of this feature. and it wokrs pretty good on most levels. all the devs have to do is set some controls for the PSP.
i'd love to play Tekken, Motorstorm, Superstar Dust, MKII, or even HS through remote play. even if you can't play through the whole game, i'd be cool to play through some levels.
