what a tit you are! sony copied MS huh?? what about digital tv and sky tv which we've had in the uk for over 10 years! guess they must of copied MS to? MS invented TV after all didnt they douche! oh and where exactly is this sony inspiring IPTV?? no where, plus your probably in the us soooo theres pretty much no chance of you getting either as it takes years to aquire the licenses needed, thats what sonys been doing for ages rather than just saying 'oh yeah we got IPTV.... aint ever coming out tho....!'

edit: how is it a copy? sony's runs on digital tv and BskyB media like all tv's soon will in the uk and europe, your phantom IPTV is streamed over the internet! and you comment about cost, right ill buy this box once and it will work forever, you'll have to pay for your xbox live account for ever if you want the feature! and with the intergration of this on the psp i cant see how this is a copy! everyone copies everyone, MS didnt come up with tv did they, or the first operating system, huh, well wouldnt that mean MS copied someone?

edit 2: nice to see some people who actually know what they are talking about backing me up, this is a great for sony in making the ps3 a true media centre, and all this copying stuff.... how the hell do you copy something that doesnt exsist??

Freeview is far better than IPTV imo. What happens if you don't have an internet connection or if it's really slow? With this you can record 2 channels at once but you have to watch one of them you are recording. I already have a DVR and this is rather good how they are bringing it to the PS3.

I work at FICORA(Finnish Communications Regulatory Authorithy) And we control all broadcasts in the nation and etc.. Our whole country is transfering to the digital TV standard 31.8.2007 which is at the end of this week. You dont have a clue how DVB-C and DVB-T or even DVB-H works, so please keep your fanboy comments to your self.
Personally i think this adds great value to the ps3.

Few Problems:

To get MS IPTV you haver to go through Live, which you have to pay for year on year. Sony's solution (which is nothing to do with IPTV) requires a one off payment, for access to a hundred channels (increasing all the time) for free.

You can watch on demand, i.e you don't have wait for downloading, and streaming isn't an option in the UK cause the majority of the country can't get better than about 2.5mb connection speed (I am personally stuck at 1.5mb).

IPTV was a tech demo, and is as of yet an unproven technology. Digital Freeview (which is what this is with built in DVR) is beign used be thousands of people evry day, and is already imensly popular. This is a very smart move on Sony's part, and at least in Europe, will be insurmounatbly more useful than IPTV ever will.

to run IPTV, you NEED to upgrade your net line. AT&T is the only current company onboard with this service for 360, and they're trying/claiming that they can get up to 34 mb/s thru their DSL lines.

Even at that, you're gonna be paying through the roof for that service. On top of that, their service (Lightspeed) isn't even close to being WIDELY available nationwide. not dissing, just stating facts that you don't seem to know.

GOOGLE is your friend.

i read somewhere that they are already trying to make recording multiple channels possible, im sure if it doesnt do it on release it'll only be fireware update or 2 away!

all this stuff about IPTV, as it stands that was still simply a tech demo, this actually works and is actually being released!

for one IPTV is just a tech demo, it doenst actually fuction or work yet! and which extra cables are these exactly, im asking as you obviously seem to know how this connects to the ps3! and if you dont its via ethernet cable.... ooooh thats the whole of about £2... big spender. the only people who should be worried about cable issues are xbox owners as 99.9 of the consoles sold dont even have a HDMI connection!

btw, i found that out with a second of GOOGLING. Learn to use it ppl, 360 fan or PS3 fan. in my area, 3-5-10mb/s = $40/50/70, so how much do you figure it's gonna cost you to subscribe to that service?

in the same spot as you, ive got 2 one for ps3 and one for my HD-DVD player. not sure about the component bit tho, i see no difference at all and im sure there are about a million people who use them everyday in the music industry that will agree with me! the only issue with component is range, it losses quality after around 100 metres where as hdmi doenst!
