Sony Disables Game Sharing For Warhawk

Warhawk, Sony's latest PlayStation 3 game, is available now from the PS3's digital download store. But gamers hoping to share the $40 game with their friends should know that Warhawk is for them alone.

While every other PlayStation 3 downloadable game can be shared with up to five PS3 machines, the online-only Warhawk doesn't have this feature. There's a warning in the game's description on the store that says it will only be playable through the PlayStation Network account that purchased the game, and only on one machine in any 24-hour period.

You CAN download it up to 5 times, but you must be logged into to play it. Ie. sucks for my brother. So I think I'll wait for retail.

The 24h period is a good idea. If a PS3 breaks down, there won't be any problems getting the game run on a different machine.

So.. does anyone know about playing on servers in a different region?

I've heard this wasn't a problem for months, but now it could seem to be a problem. I live in Europe, but just bought the game from the US store.

uh oh i have 2 accounts so basically this is telling me i can only play it on one? or can i play it on either account as its on the same machine? im confused what does the 24hr on one machine thing mean?

7.1 - Might Help

*My Guess On This* If you Buy the game on account "Monkey" and play it on your machine but then want to play it on a friends using the account "Monkey" you need to wait 24hrs.

The difference seems to be that you can't go and give a friend your account to download the game and then he uses HIS account to play it. You need to be logged on the SAME account you origionaly purchased the game on and if you want to play it on another machine you need to wait 24hrs.

sounds like.... one machine...

to clarify...

play as much as you want on your five accounts on your .... one machine

wait 24 hours to play on your friend's... one machine with your account

I think that you will be able the game with different accounts on the same machine. You can't download and/or play another copy of the game on a different machine for 24h after you've played on the first one.

Both Futureshop and Bestbuy are selling the retail version today (not sure what time the shipment will arrive, I'm guessing after 2pm due to it not being a "1337" game release) and I will pick it up and see how it works for different accounts. Bestbuy has it for $39.99 and Futureshop for $69.99 so I'm bringing the flyer to Futureshop showing the price and I will get it matched and 10% off hopefully. =)

Its not about leeching from other people. People who downloaded the game should have the same abilities that people have with the BD version. Games should work with sub accounts. It makes no sense. I have a thread going on the PS3 forum site if any of you are interested.

It seems silly to even have this option if they are going to disable it for the new & popular games. I see them getting rid of this option altogether in the near future. Otherwise they will just end up pissing off gamers.

this really isnt a big deal. if you are the only owner of the ps3 and youre not going to take your game to some bodies house then you should just download it. but if you have multiple people sharing a ps3 and/or you take your games to your friends house buy the bluray. im sure sony is counting on more people buying the disk than downloading it.

Today they are saying,
"You can only play using your sub or other account 24 hours after you played using your main account, everytime. Hope this helps

20 - the beta was like that

i downloaded the Beta onto my PS3, then logged into my account on my roommate's PS3 and downloaded it, but naturally, only one of us could play it at a time since it only worked for my account.

it doesn't surprise me at all that they would "disable" game sharing, as it's a $40 purchase.

can you imagine the money they'd lose from millions of PS3 gamers if they let everyone share with 5 of their friends?

this game has been in the making a long time. it's not like Calling All Cars, which took about a year to do, probably cost less than a few million, and retailed for $9.99.

this was supposed to be a *LAUNCH title, and cost some money to make.

though i suspect they think the retail version will sell more than the online, but i'm sure they're hoping for the online version to sell well also (so they can cut out the middle man; the retailers).

i'll be picking up the retail version later today.

23 - When i downloaded it last nite..at 11:01 PM...

My download only took about 30 mins...and everything went flawless.

The game is much better than the beta. The graphics are much more smoother and better looking. The sounds are totally awesome. It now supports THX too.

The explosions seem more real and forcefull. The game is just more satisfying now..

Umm... i should be able to play it on any account on the ps3 i bought it on, subaccounts included. Its rediculous that i cant. I can see multiple ps3's, but not allowing me to play on whatever account I want on my ps3 is rediculous.

Also I heard with the BR you could put it on multiple machine so you can all LAN play with one copy. Is that still true?
