GC: We wont have Madden's PS3 problems, says 2K

2K Sports games like NBA 2K8 won't have the same "sluggish" PS3 problems as EA's Madden 08, the publisher told CVG this afternoon.

"Our[PS3 version] does run at 60fps" said 2K Sports PR Manager Anthony Chau, in response to Madden 08's less smooth framerate on the PS3. He can carefully say the NBA 2K8 will run at 60fps on the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

6 - Calling out EA

If EA had not obtained exclusive rights to the NFL trademarks, this 60fps "ordeal" would never have happend because 2K sports would have benn breathing down their necks.

It seems like every announcement that comes from EA now just bothers me a little more each time.

"We focus on the 360 version first"

"We can't do 60fps for Madden on the PS3"

These might sound logical to people in their heirarchy but to the average customer , especially Sony customers, it's just pure BS. And for good reason too. Mainly because every other company is making a mockery of EA now saying the equivalent of "We can do it, so that obviously means you suck." That what I get from statements like this.

I like 2ksports and I'm glad they seem have a grasp of the PS3 hardware but didn't they release All Pro Football at 30 fps? Now that would have been a major selling point for them if they could have achieved 60fps their first time on the system.

I agree, however I wonder how much money ea paid espn and the nfl for exclusive rights..if they can be bribed once they can be bribed again, same for baseball, but I don't play baseball games. The NBA on the other hand, ironically(cause it's run by stern{extreme douchebag}) doesn't have the same policy and is most fan friendly in terms of videogame merchandise.

Yes, you do need to assume that. Developers had to begin developing on the 360 (and any console) way before it was released. That way, they could have their games ready by launch. The Xbox 360 may have not been 100 percent at the time, but consoles are usually fundamentally similar to the final build a year prior. A lot of quality insurance testing is done before the console's release, but less development and engineering. Development teams can also do a lot of work before a launch even if they don’t have a working build: artwork, documentation, story writing, simulated animations, etc. Launch titles are never the greatest though, and the reasons are obvious.

Madden
NBA Live
NHL
FIFA

In return PS3 owners should get:

NFL 2k (when that NFL license runs out)
NBA 2K
NHL 2K
PES (Since you seem to love EA, why not let PS3 owners have PES)

How can they compare basketball performance to football? They might as well compare it to PGR4. There is only 10 players in motion at any one time in basketball. There is 22 players in motion in football. Thats more then twice the animation, physics, and artificial intelligence.

Two years in a row they have disappointed me with a crap of a game. I really hope 2K gets the licence back because I'm about ready to switch. Especially if Madden sucks next year. They've been putting out games for years and they still can't get it right. One step forward only to take two steps back the next year. What gives?
