American Sales: 360 outsells PS3, Madden 08 sells 1.6 Million units led by 360 version

The Wii, Xbox, GC and PSP versions of Madden 08 – combined - accounted for fewer than 10% of the 1.6 million units sold while 360 version sold them most and 4 times the PS3 version.

ps3 has sold 4.6 m units till date according to GFK

1.5 million in EU

1.8 million in USA
and 1.3 million in JAPAN

that makes it 4.6 million

ps3 is trailing x360 by 4.8 million consoles not 8 million as some of you said

x360 has sold 6m consoles in NA

x360 has sold 3m in EU

and 400k in JAPAN

total for x360 = 9.4million

I thought VGChartz was pretty accurate at the US numbers. I looked at NexGenWars and those numbers are way messed up. They say the Wii is about a million behind the Xbox (which isnt true).

I guess we have to wait for the real number to come out to see for sure.

I understand that the times have really changed for gamers, but all over this site & others, all I see is talk of sales numbers. Consoles sold, games sold.....does anyone just play the games anymore? Playing video games was better overall, when it was considered a kiddie or geeky thing to do. Gaming is almost too commercial now. Concerns over who sells more than who...what developer signs exclusive rights to who.....this is almost worse than the music industry is now. (primarily hip-hop) Things should be simple again. Developers should go back to creating good games simply out of the love for the craft. Us folks should just continue to buy what we like & not pray for the competition to fail.

Both PS3 and 360 are getting their best with 360 getting BioShock, Halo3, Mass Effect and PS3 getting Heavenly Sword, Lair, Warhawk and both enjoying COD4, Assassins Creed, Rock Band and more. :)

BTW Lair isn't getting very good reviews. It's the Perfect Dark Zero of the PS3. Sure it might be fun, but the reviews suck

These are indeed exciting times for all true gamers. If you don't care about who created what systems, and care about actual gaming, then you really do need to own both the 360 and the PS3.

It is also great that the two systems are looking as good as they are, since they adds some well needed (and really unpresidented) competition on the console market. Prices go down, and no producer can survive on hype alone, the actual product needs to deliver.

Madden on 360 sold 889,072 units!! The only game this year that can match seems to be Halo 3. I never understoon why people love Madden so much. 1.6 million units total! More than Halo 3 pre-orders. Halo 3 is a great and award-winning FPS while Madden is just another yearly EA cash cow update.

9 - VG charts is far from accurate....

But when the official sales data by NPD for August gets released....who will actually be surprised that the xbox 360 is back to selling more than the ps3? And Tomarrow we will know if the Ps3 actually outsold the 360 for July with their price drop to clear out the 60 gig models...I would assume it would have but....I wouldn't rely on VG charts for that info....LOL....

If the Ps3 didn't outsell the 360 for July....That would be a shame. But if they did...thats good news for Sony...but One month out of 10 months ain't all that impressive. But I guess its a start? But when you are down by 7 to 8 million consoles....its a very very slow start...

PS3 is out selling 360 by a large margin. I know 360 doesn't sell anywhere outside the U.S. but PS3 does so lets look at totals for world wide. PS3 all the way

I'm not going to argue with you as you are clearly ill informed....

If you are taking VG charts as your official source of Sales Stats...You really have no clue.

The xbox 360 has sold over 6 million consoles in the US....compared to the Ps3's 1.3 million.

The xbox 360 has sold over 4.5 million in Europe...compared to the Ps3's 1.3 million.

The xbox 360 has sold 500k in Japan...compared to the ps3's 1.5 million.

Totaling over 11 million for the xbox 360 and a tad over 4 million for the Ps3.

So while in Antartica the ps3 sells 1000 more units than the xbox 360 for the week....That does very little for the Ps3's sluggish overall sales. You can name 10 small countries that the ps3 sells under 1000 units more than the xbox 360....but those totals aren't helping the ps3 catch up. See thats the point. When will the Ps3 catch up? At the rate they are going....1000 here....1000 there....it won't be till after the next console war has started...LOL.....You see....when the ps3 launched back in November...the xbox 360 was at 6 million sales to the ps3's 0.

The xbox 360 has since then sold just about 6 more million. While the Ps3 in its Launch period till now has only sold 4 million. How do you explain that? Thats not how the ps3 will catch up...they have to drastically sell more than the 360....and with Halo 3, Bio Shock, Madden 08, Mass Effect, and GTA 4....There is no way that can happen...Especially with the worldwide price drops....and extended warranty with hardware improvements....HDMI standard in all units...and memory saving included in all units...via hard drive or 256 memory card.....Sony is fighting an uphill battle my friend. And the sad things the games aren't helping them. So far there hasn't been any games showing the quality of what you would expect paying 600 dollars for a console. Lair was suppose to be that title.....Hmmmmmm....I pick up my copy of Lair on day one. We will see....

1.32 million in EU
1.86 million in USA
1.13 million in JAPAN

360
3.32 million in EU
6.75 million in USA
.43 million in JAPAN

Doesn't that add to 4.3M PS3 vs 10.5M 360?

I mean, I agree it's not 8M but it's also not 4.9M... looks like 6.2M to me... atleast based on the links you supplied. Am I missing something here?

At least VGChartz is not affiliated with Sony or Microsoft.

So, if VGChartz overestimates or underestimated sales numbers for PS3 or Xbox 360, it is doing so in a CONSISTENT, UNIFORMED manner -- for BOTH PS3 and Xbox 360 (and other platforms.) As VGChartz overestimates/underestimates sales figure in a consistent manner across all platforms, it is NOT favoring neither party.

But still, you get a general (not 100% accurate) idea of what platform is leading, gaining, losing, or selling better than the other. VGChartz might be off from time to time, but not by a whole lot, and not deliberately so in favor of a certain platform -- which is the reason why some fanboys are pissed off at VGChartz, because VGChartz is not bending over to support their "cause" or "console".

I have seen both sides use this site for numbers. Why does it even matter to anybody. If you are not making or lossing money why do you care.

@Larry007, you actually think the PS3 will catch up in sales to the 360 by March . Do the math, even if the 360 did not sell anymore systems until mar 08 and the PS3 sold as they have been, it still would not match sales for 360.
