51
Messages from the Game Labo
15.08.07 - Here are some messages from the rumor column of the Japanese Game Labo, of which none was so far confirmed.
- Of Sony, Africa(PS3) a kind "search/investigation software" should be, which uses pressure and touch-sensitive mat for the input. The developers got the order to bring Africa before Nintendo Wiifit(Wii) on the market.

I pray that its either a big game hunting game or that you role play as a lion and chase animals.
That would be bad ass, if you could be a cheetah and chase a gazelle or even as a Crocodile and eat some dumb tourist. Wow perhaps that is it?
but, most likely its a stupid photo game where you watch a elephants scratch their behinds.

3 - This might just be a huge game!
This game, it seems so awesome.. even though we know very little about it. It just seems like it's going to be pretty nice. People are speculating as to what type of game it will be, hopefully we get to know more about this game in the coming months.

Seriously I read on N4G.com daily and other sites too. All I know about this game is that The Zebras look kick ass, It's in Africa setting and the Rhinos are shiny and look great.
It is hard to ignore the fact that they are clearly taking there time and with the low hype they have been successful in flying under the radar. This means it is going to be a mega sleeper hit, or they are having a hard time working out problems in the game. Let's hope it's the former and not the latter.
Just need more info!

Cuco, just for the record, people were bashing WiiFit, not the balance board itself. Rightly so, too, because most of us don't want a game to be one that's just regular exercise.

People think Wii Fit is a lame, since it has nothing to do with GAMING. We do think the board could be used for some cool stuff like, skates or surfing etc.. at least I do.

I don't know why,
but I am very intrigued as to find out what this game is going to be about. I hope they don't blow everyone's curiosity by being a lame photography game, or something like that, The possibilities with this title could be huge. If they squander it however, It will be a huge let down, and a laughable dissapointment.
No pressure though

I had a feeling some idiot would come along and make the "Sony Copied Aagin!" statement. Hey idiot, when a game uses a certain peripheral device as an important keypoint of the gameplay, developers just don't magically create a new peripheral in a matter of a couple of weeks!
This touch sensitive mat took planning and was in developement long before the announcement of the WiiFit. The developers want it out before WiiFit, because it's kids like you who will accuse it as being a Wiifit peripheral ripoff.

Thats the funny part. No one knows anything about this game at all. No one knows even what basic genre it is. Yet it still gets attention because its a sony exclusive. It reminds me of when xbox fanboys suddenly got excited over katamari when it went exclusive. Fanboys are funny. They'll claim to be hyped over anything so long as its exclusive to their console.

I am excited about the game, because of the mystery behind it. Katamari is a known game, we know how it plays etc.. We don't know how this game will play. And a lot of us want to get our hands on it. We already KNOW that the graphics are going to be awesome.
Now we are patently waiting to find out how the game will actually play. Some people are speculating it might be a hunting game, others think it might be like Home, but you take a part as an Animal etc.. what ever it is, we are just excited to know what this game is about.

I would prefer if they took their time to perfect the game rather than bring it out quickly to compete with that krappy Wiifit gimmick. As long as it's not delayed till 2009.

23 - Im just saying
Ok, so maybe my earlier post was fanboyish...but isn't it funny that Sony kinda announces stuff that the competition is using kinda a little after the competition?
Im not trying to hate the PS3. I mean yeah, I'm not a fan of the PS3, but this is a genuine question. Why didn't we know about this feature in Afrika until now when coincidentally Wiifit was just announced? Just like we never knew of the SIXAXIS right up until the Wiimote was shown?
Is this just coincidence? Or is Sony trying to disrupt/steal thunder? That would make sense, especially since they are pushing this thing out before Wiifit.
I guess I can't really just jump to conclusions yet. I wonder how they are going to use it in a game like Afrika. Like do you use it to walk to animals? That was one of the things that kinda made me think they are just trying to steal thunder. How would a motion sensing mat be implemented in a "sim" game like Afrika. To me it doesn't make sense.

23.1 - Sony isn't stealing, as you are implying.
Sony had motion controllers patented in 2001, they didn't "steal" from the Wii as you are implying. I am sure the technology on the touch sensitive mat, is not going to be anything like Wiifit. Wiifit has more to do with balance and pressure then "motion sensing."

WiiFit is set to come out New Years Day or something like that. Normally, you have to promote a game, especially if it is a AAA title or even AA. Afrika hasnt been seen anywhere, so for them to just throw it into the market without any type of beforehand campaign for it, that would be a terrible move for whoever is trying to make sales for it.

25 - about rushing the touch sensitive mat
I think this touch sensitive mat was suppose to be Afrika's top secret gameplay keypoints device. Maybe that's why there was not much known about the damn game. Now that Wiimat has been introduced, the devs of Afrika might have felt a sudden urgency to rush this out before all of that work on their new peripheral device end up loosing it's "pa-zazz" and spotlight by the Wiimat.

26 - This is what you do on the Mat
You see an animal on screen like a zebra, then u "pick" what animal you want to be by putting all fours on the mat like a lion. Then you make special movements to "attack it", then if you do it right u score!! The screen will give you specific movements to do as well, you need to copy it faster on faster animals.

This game has intrigued me from the start. I'd always hope to got to play as a predator and had to hunt to survive, actually stalking prey and keeping down wind type of stuff. You'd able you be different animals but there would be a whole eco system that reacted to you.
I wonder what Sony have in mind. No doubt something unusual, they're keeping for a surprise. Notice the last 3 game shows, Sony has brought out something to surprise us with. Granted at E3 we knew it was going to be KZ2, the surprise was just how good it is. I wonder if this game is still one of the aces up their sleeve, along with 8 days and a few other titles they've gone quiet on.
