Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (PS3) Review
17
Presentation and Graphics: The game uses likenesses of the actors from the Fantastic Four movies, and they look fairly similar. Character models for all other characters are pretty good. Character animations looked pretty good, but not great. The environments didn't match that level in most areas. The background details were sparse with repeated textures. The worst part about the graphics were the framerate issues. Whenever the camera would pan around large areas, or you were fighting multiple enemies on screen, there was a noticeable slowdown. This was one of the major factors that turned me off to the game right from the start. 3 of 5

1 - Bad game
I haven't played a game so un-fun in a long time. The repetitive gameplay in Fantastic Four is the worst. Go through a door, kill 10 enemies, go through a door, go down/up an elevator… then repeat. It got old very quickly.

Nope which is sad, comic books have a lot of potential when it coems to games, yet they make them horribly, i.e. ghost rider games! They bank on the movie versions and just try to cash in on the release of the films and rush them out.

That is a shame since hte Xmen Legens games were fun. I think one thing that made the Xmen and Marvel games was the ability ot use all the different characters, in FF you only use 4 characters and two of them are kinda lame. ::looks over at invisible woman and Mr Fantastic and laughs::

It seems that these companies assume that people will buy these games based solely on the movie. So many times these games are pushed out to coincide with a movie release, this PS3 edition being the exception, but very little was changed from the xbox360 version. Invisible woman is a beat character as well.

Did the 360's version run better in terms of framerate? Just curious.

6.1 - Speaking of Framerate
I've heard a lot of talk about framerate (especially concerning madden), can someone clarify this for me? Is the framerate how smooth the game plays? or is it how good the game looks as far as graphics quality? Or does it just mean there might be more tearing in fast moving pictures...

Framerate is how smooth the game plays, how many frames per second so that you don't notice sttuter in the image. You can go to wikipedia and get more indepth info about it so you understand better. :)

6.3 - Wolverick
FPS is basicly how smooth the game engine runs. How many times the polygons are redrawn for animation purposes.
Most of the time FPS is in direct correlation to the refresh rate(how fast the picture is redrawn during animation) of TV or monitors. Right now the standard is 60 FPS. There are some monitors with higher refresh rates but it is not the standard "yet".
Usually when the FPS is not synced with the refresh rate of the monitor it can cause screen tearing.
Games with a smoothness to them usually are running at higher frame rates. Frame rates usually suffer when the CPU/GPU is taxed when a lot of things are going on on screen. Hence with higher quality graphic games the frame rate can suffer. When there is low frame rates it almost appears as if the game is stuttering.
Ram limitations can also cause framerate problems.

Although I must say that rarely the framerate is in sync with the refresh rate of the TV/monitor. In PC gamming you have an option called "VSync" which "forces" them to be equal and avoid screen tearing. Obviously, that only works if your GPU can actually provide 60 frames per sec or above constantly on that particular game at a certain resolution, antialiasing level, detail level, texture quality, etc. If not, its useless to use VSync.

I had hopes that this may turn out ot be a decent game after they said they were modeling it after Marvel Ultimate Alliance but alas they butchered it! Not a surprise but one can always dream.
