Warhawk Goes Gold: Release Date 28th August

Dylon Jobe, Game Director of Warhawk writes on the Playstation blog that;

"Warhawk has gone gold.

Hells Ya! The PSN and Blu-ray versions have gone "GOLD," completely finished and will go on sale August 28th … just a few weeks away!

Next, what does Warhawk cost?

If you didn't already know, SCEA is taking an exciting new approach with Warhawk – making it available for download directly from the PlayStation Store *and* releasing it at retail simultaneously. Each one has a different price. Why different pricing? A couple of reasons: first off, we wanted to give all of you the option, the retail game is more of a premium version with some expanded video content, traditional package and manual (this seems to mean a lot with some of the gamers I have spoken to), and a Jabra Bluetooth headset bundled with the game – all for $59.99!

The PlayStation Store version will be $39.99 and I'm really glad that SCEA came through with a "good value" price for this – it's the right thing to do."

Now, I'm definitely getting the disc version. Imo, its the better deal with the headset. I'm guessing that this will get buried by 1up and EGM for their reviews because of the price tag lolz.

1.1 - But..

The value pack is the $60 which is even better value. It emphasises to the customer to get a headset, which is a big necessity to play this title. It's one thing alot of PS3 users lack; a headset.

This game is incredibly addictive and fun. Great if you want to get hardcore and create your own clan, or just blow up a few things for 10 minutes.

For its retail price, and the sheer fun - I expect places like 1UP to rate this game atleast on the same score as Shadowrun that got 8/10.

That is fair.

I was in the beta and I had fun playing this game. I just remember that headline the other day about 1up giving it a low score if the downloadable content is priced higher than $30 which is really unfair and doesn't make sense at all. I mean, why should the pricetag affect the game review? If we go to their logic, then Calling all Cars should've gotten a 10/10 because its only 10 bucks.

Excellent news. No delay then. But the $40 price tag will put alot of people off downloading it, whilst they can get it on Blu-Ray, with a quality headset, for less than $60 in retail stores.

By the way, any specifics on the headset?
I'm currently using a Motorola H300, and it sometimes stops working (or interferes with the SIXAXIS controllers).
I'd like to fix that >_<!

I can't emphasize this more than enough, but STAY AWAY FROM MOTOROLA, especially the H350!! I used to have the motorola H350, but it caused all kind of weird problems, even occasionally crashing my entire PS3. According to us.playstation.com forum, there seems to be a bug within the motorola headset that can cause your ps3 to disconnect or even crash.

PS. I have the plantronics explorer 330. It works great.

I feel your pain, man.
The H300 has crashed my PS3 a couple of times too, but mainly because it messes up the bluetooth signal for the SIXAXIS controller and I just couldn't do anything in the XMB =(

But other than the fact that my current headset is a Motorola, would going to the Jabra BT125 be considered an atleast half-decent upgrade?

From what I heard (both in the Internet and PSN online), people either use a Plantronics (like mine) or a Jabra
(which is more common, but I don't know the model). Also, people recommend those two brands more than any other. Try google "ps3 motorola headset, crash, bug" and you'll see why people avoid Motorola headsets like a plague. So, in your situation, the game with a Jabra headset is pretty much a sweet deal for you.

As for me, I'll be getting the disc version, even though I'm happy with my headset. The reason: When it comes to hard drive space, I'm really stingy about it, so it would be better for me to get a game on the separate disc.

I have been using a Sony Ericsson HBH 660 headset for several years with my cell phones...and it works great with my PS3...long battery life and very easy to disconnect/connect during gameplay (i read some sets will not disconnect or connect during a game)...

only thing I have heard bad stuff about is Motorola...I have always hated their cell phones also, doesn't suprise me if their headsets are equally bad...

easily got to be the download version. If u have friends u can log onto ur acc on ur friends system and download it onto thiers essentially u can do this up to 5 times and then share the cost :D

Actually no, as long as your account stays on your friends PS3 he can play with his own account. Only when the "owner" account is deleted from the PS3 the game stops working. Also you can only download the title 5 times. So in the unlikely event of your PS3 breaking beyond repair you will need at least one download left ;) Same goes if you upgrade your HDD.

but what it signifies. It is now the most expensive console download ever. Sony should be passing on the savings to the customers. Instead they are keeping the profits from cutting out the middle man. They probably buy the headsets for $10 each from Jabra. Then sell the game for like $45 to distributors and chain stores. $45 -$10 =$35. Not to mention the money they save on storing inventory, printing the disc, manual, box and shipping. Its more a matter of principle and something I dont want to support.

But if there's one thing I've learned with the PS3, it's don't get your hopes up about release dates. I remember reading the headlines about Lair going gold as well, and we all know where that ended up. I had a blast in the beta and I can't wait to get my hands on this game (and the headset). Here's hoping for some goodies in the final version that were left out of the beta. I love surprises!

16 - $40 isn't that bad really!

If you really think about it, you'll see is not that bad of a deal.

If you don't need the headset nor the hdd space, it's not a bad deal at all.

Remember this game is only multiplayer (duh) so if you buy this game, you will play the sh*t out of it.. just because if you spend money in the first place for an online game you will want to play this as long as you can until it bores the hell out of you. <---- and that probably won't happen if you like the game.

So if you already have a headset why will you buy the retail one that's $20 more???

It's not a bad deal at all, but if you feel that it's still way too expensive then buy the disk (w headset).

I've heard that there's gonna be an option so that you can install versions of Warhawk on other PS3s with the Blu-ray Disc so LAN parties can be played via only one copy of the game, but if you can simply install the full game from the BD, what would prevent you from just passing it to all your friends so they can get free copies of the game? There's gonna have to be something like a serial key or "disc required at start-up" function, don't you think?
