Lair: Edge on controls and other features
25
No doubt the controls will continue to be tweaked as the development zeroes in on its release date, but beyond the occasional ungainliness of the game's core mechanic, early previews of Lair raise other concerns in its peripheral features and the manner in which the game ties together into a coherent whole - elements that are unlikely to see radical change between now and release.

1 - Sounds like and old build as well
No doubt the controls will continue to be tweaked as the development zeroes in on its release date.
Those are the key words, this build they were playing was not new

Yea I always thought 1up was biased, but I used to give them the benefit of the doubt. But between the lair crap, their totally biased way of "subtracting" points from warhawk when not applying the same system to a similar game from ms, and the killzone 2 skepticism its pretty obvious now that they are to sony what fox news is to democrats.

What are you celebrating about? The Edge preview pretty much confirms EGM's take on the controls.

5 - well
the controls seem to be loved or hated
Thankfully it feels responsive without being twitchy and with a little practice - we're talking less than a few minutes - gliding past the spotlights becomes second nature. The task is made considerably easier by your dragon's ability to hover, enabling you to wait for the spotlight to pass before swooping under. It can dash too, so if you accidentally stray into the light - at which point the Mokai hammer your winged beast with fireballs - you can quickly escape back into the safety of the darkness

I don't give a flying dirty ratz azz about some [[[gamers]]] just like me, that can put there fingers to the keyboard and pump out meaningful sentences just like I can.
When the game comes out ~ I'm buying it. Period.

found this in that article, I belive its from IGN's preview of the final build of the game
"As we've reported previously, the SIXAXIS copes easily with dogfights in open areas, but negotiating the confined chasms without being spotted is a much tougher test of the controller's precision. Thankfully it feels responsive without being twitchy and with a little practice - we're talking less than a few minutes - gliding past the spotlights becomes second nature. The task is made considerably easier by your dragon's ability to hover, enabling you to wait for the spotlight to pass before swooping under. Im gonna wait until they review it.... o.O

Good point. Actually I think thats the reason behind delay since they realized some people wont like the motion controls and now are adding normal analog control option which IMO they should have done earlier because motion controls of SIXAXIS isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Have some faith Bill. I think we'll find the motion controls will actually be easier and more intuative than using the sticks. Certainly they'll be less jerky. Give it a chance. I personally hope they dont add stick control because I believe most people are going to like it about 5 minutes into the game.

EGM are on their own at the mo so can the haters please quit for now and the doubters just chill until they play the demo. To the dude that said damage control. Please shut up because your looking a little stupid trying to make others believe that a game you haven't and probably never will play is crap just because of 1 questionable review. Well i hope the quotes you just read open your eyes a little.
Anything that uses the motion control on the ps3 is deemed crap. Wonder why?
Like it or not the future of many games will played using motion control or a part of it. Yes it will take some getting used to just like the time I first used an analog stick then dual analogs.

It scored decent w/ gamepro (3.8 out of 5), and play magazine seemed to love it (9 out of 10). I dont know what build ign were playing, but they also seemed to be fine w/the controls in their preview. The jury is still out on this game, and I hate how the fanboys are ready to say it sucks after one bad review.
You can name any book/movie/album and there is bound to be at least one bad review for it. We'll see if and when a demo is release, either that or after its actually released.

I think this game will be like Crackdown or Dead Rising; both very good games, but both titles that have obvious problems that keep them from being truly great. This is a game that simply has some, for lack of a better term, broken elements that probably can't be fixed for the majority of gamers, no matter how much tweaking and testing it receives. It's hard to tell if analog control is the answer; hopefully we'll get the option, even though I'd want to give the motion controls a hell of a shot before I'd switch them off.
The main problem I see already is that this is a title which seems to polarize the people who play it. Those who are able to get into it (90% of IT being the controls) are likely to love it. Those who don't... won't. More reviews will come, and then when it's released, the people who's opinions actually matter—the gamers—will get to decide.

It's just like Eurogamer reviewing a Japanese copy of Folksoul and then panning it. It's really unprofessional to review something that isn't localized or completed yet simply to get a jump start on being the first to review something.

13 - The truth is
Everyone here remember Rogue Squadron? Would it receive a great score today, with the same mission structure, only one ship, less than 10 hours of gameplay, and a glossy coat of paint? Granted the ship is very cool.
If the game is too easy, and unwieldy, why would they give it a good score? EGM and Gamepro don't review games, until the developer/publisher sends them final REVIEW code.
If it wasn't ready to be reviewed, then the developer/publisher, should not have labeled it 'REVIEW code'. That's a big 'If' too. EGM and Gamepro have been in this industry for over 20 years. This is Factor 5's mistake, not EGM, EDGE or Gamepro's.
