Rumor Mill: Lair Delayed

According to EB Games, Lair has been delayed until September 4th from it's previously scheduled August 12th release date. Gamefly has also changed it's release date, but they're showing September 6th (most likely to account for getting enough copies in to rent to customers). Screenshots taken in case they change it back (EB Games above, Gamefly after the jump).

Yeah it sounds like they're pulling a Calling All Cars trick and releasing it later from the bad reviews. Well I'm getting a 360 on the 15th for Bioshock, so if it comes out after the 1st I'll have more money to buy Warhawk, Lair, and Heavenly Sword.

i think it would be better if they delayed it and added normal controls as well as the six axes motion sensing controls that way it would get better reviews and more games would by it cuz some people r stupid enough too listen too a biased review.

I'm not too sure why they went with just SIXAXIS controls in the first place. It's always better to give the user a choice, so having both SIXAXIS and standard controls is the right way to go.

There's no confirmation this is what's going on with the delay. Since we'd previously heard it went gold, this could also be just for a manufacturing issue.

Agreed, since basically the only "bad" point that is mentioned in some of the early reviews is the SIXAXIS only control

drunk pandas@ they originally had both but they said that wanted to create a unique experience around the SIXAXIS and that they would work till it was perfect, but it looks like not everybody liked the changed even if the reviewers accepted that the controls were very precise

I was thinking that might be the case. It would hard to not develop the game with standard controls for testing purposes. If the base code is already there, it wouldn't take much time at all to add the standard controls to the game. I think that's still and "if" at this point until we hear something official from Sony

This analog controls thing might just be wishful thinking. I don't know a damn thing about game development, but I'm guessing it would take a whole lot longer than just two weeks to map out an entirely new control scheme and integrate it into the game.

Lair has had several short delays now and for me that can only point to one thing: a lot of small bugs that the devs keep finding on their final run throughs of the game. I was really looking forward to playing lair, but between all the delays and the egm review I'm going to wait for the demo before buying.

2.7 - I am hoping for the same thing.

It never makes sense to limit people's control option and force them to play a certain way when they dont have to. Its one of the reasons I got rid of my DS Lite. I hated the fact that alot of those games forced stupid stylus controls onto the player without offering an alternate control scheme. Especially since I'm left-handed it just left me frustrated alot of the time.

I think they might add in the feature for you to use the sixasis motion sensor function or the analog...but proberly just delay for other reasons

If its for the sixasis then its worth the wait i guess...to prove to the reviewer thats Lair is a good game because it seems like the reviewer only dislikes the sixasis motion sensor (which to me is pretty stupid)

Yes, Sony announced it went gold. However, every major retailer now has changed their release date to September 4th in the US. Games can be delayed after they go gold for many reasons (late bugs discovered, manufacturing issues, publisher wanting to hold the game for a certain date).

For real, check all the reviews. Everybody even if it was a positive review, said controls were tricky and sometimes they felt bad and uncomfortable.

I think that they need to at least take that into consideration, because that's the main reason why reviewers are not convinced about LAIR.

I just hope that this rumor turns out to be true, IF the reason for its delay is so they can add normal controls.

10 - One can only speculate at this time regarding the delay....

I mean the delay basically is only about 15 days really so kinda hard to imagine they are doing any major tweak to the game such as adding an entire new control scheme to the game via the sticks. But maybe they have had it all along and just want to add and give the option. However...I kinda doubt that is the issue.

I bet they found a minor bug that was just big enough to make them say...lets fix it and push back a few weeks. I mean seriously...its not enough time to be anything big imo.

that even a month is way too short IMO for them to work a entirely new control scheme, I believe (obviously not sure) that they added normal controls from the beginning, but decided to not use them or add them as an option in the game..

Hopefully not. I know a lot of people are waiting for new game for the PS3. Games are delayed sometime, but I am pretty sure Sony has been pushing the right button to get this gae released on time. If it is delayed it could be good though, they could be polishing the game even more.

If they make the you able to control without sixaxis then the delay is well worth it. With normal (good) controls this game will be getting 10s if it was getting 9s with bad motion sensing. They can easily add a new control scheme. This has probably cost Sony a fair bit of money if it was in production. But they know this could be a must have system seller. And this game getting bad scores just for controls when better controls could have easily been added would be a kick in the nuts for Sony.

But still its a rumor lol

A one month delay is not long enough for them to add another control scheme to the game! If they ever managed to do that it would be the biggest tacked-on feature of all time! (Unless it's already coded or partially coded and they've decided to implement it because of the bad reviews). But I wouldn't count on it.

Probably something that's actually do-able in 2 weeks (since they'll need 2 more for manufacturing and shipping).

21 - Lair is one of the best games this year.

It does what nothing else has done before combined top notch graphics with innovative gameplay.
this is no different then trying to ajust playing RE4 on the wii,its hard at 1st but since this is a Sony game emg and all the other anti-Sonys give it a bad score mmm no wonder really, they give RE4 for wii 9's even though the controlers were horrible and really noneplayable.

Many a game has gone gold only to get delayed and reworked. I believe it was one of the Ultima games back about 5-7 years ago that went gold...got sent to replicators and packaged for shipment only to have found a major bug that had the game actually erase the hard drives of PC's. The company had a choice...let the game ship and F' everyone or delay it and eat the costs. Thankfully they did the responsible thing.

Anyway...point is going gold just means final code from the developer is all done and they have submitted their gold copy to the publisher. Replication usually follows shortly there after, but usually requires the publisher to green light as well.

If they pushed it back to accomadate the ailings of reviewers complaining about the controls, they can simply come out with a statement that says: We added in analog stick function, but the TRUE way to experience this game is with the sixaxis and that'll be the end of it.

If it gets pushed back to make the game better, I'm all for it. They understand they need to have a hit on their hands or face a massive loss considering the PS3's small install base and attract new people to buying the system and their game.
Edit: and it's hardly an embarassement, graphicly, aurily, and story-wise the game is remarkable, or so I read.
