Rumbling SIXAXIS in Developer's Hands

Innerbits.com report that there are Several fresh items of news today, regarding the PS3 controller:

"We can confirm that prototypes of the new rumble-enabled controllers have made their way to various Sony developers. Information on these controllers is still closely held by Sony and their partners, but an official announcement and unveiling is expected in the next two to three months. Leipzig is the most obvious guess for this unveiling, but we believe Sony is going to withhold the controllers until they can launch them to coincide with support from enough developers.

We can also confirm that new versions of the Sixaxis controller are quietly replacing the original controllers launched with the console. Hardware updates occur regularly throughout the lifespan of controllers; in this case, Sony has improved the fidelity of motion sensing in the controller. The original controllers apparently suffered of too much of a dead zone."

i want my rumble back rumble back rumble back rumble back. I want hsword rumble and all the other games after that. Hopefully they can update all games for rumble support but i doubt that will happen but gimme hsword rumble and all the other titles beyond hsword and am cool. If stranglehold got rumble dat wud be totally awesome. I will pick up two new controllers as soon as they are out. Now rumble can return with mgs 4 as well:D. I also hope warhawk has rumble dat wud be a sweet game 2 play with rumble

Maybe Kojima suggested a clause that stated that if no rumble was put into PS3 controllers, MGS would go multi-platform o_o

Actually Kojima is a developer by virtue of the fact he is in game development. A developer can be a programmer, an artist, a level designer, sound technician, etc. Even, a producer and project lead.

Developer can also be used in the greater sense to refer to a group of people en toto when they act as a single entity in game making. An example is "Kojima Productions is the developer on MGS4."

At the same time he is a developer, producer and, as he often prefers, a director of sorts.

Rumble, more accurate motion sensing, and maybe a solution to the internal battery crisis? I can't wait to get my hands on this controller! It probably won't be as ridiculously light as the original Sixaxis, but oh well.

consumers ask for it and Sony makes darn sure that they provide it...sooner or later is better than never.

I will be interested if these will truly feature something more than just vibration with the example that "Touchsense" gives us.

i actually dont mind no rumble, i thought i was going to notice it a lot more, but i havent. but, im not denying that i wouldnt like a rumbling controller...
i just hope it doesnt cost too much, the sixaxis is costs enough as it is.

Word is that it is Touch Sense. So not only rumble but directional rumble as well.

PSM France has revealed some new news regarding the PS3 SIXAXIS rumble controller. One of the rumors that surround this much needed controller for the Playstation 3 is that it could contain Touch Sense. This is a much more sophisticated vibration system than the old PS2 controller, as it meant that the vibrations do not come just from the handles but from various areas of the lever.

PSM france reveals new info on PS3 SIXAXIS rumble

This months edition of PSM France reportedly reveals lots of new information on the upcoming rumble enabled Official PS3 SIXAXIS controller. One of the interesting revelations is that the controller may contain 'touch sense' which will mean the vibrations do not emanate solely from the handles but various places of the Lever and developers should be able to create a multitude of effects.

Technical details

- the gyroscopic functions can cohabit with the vibrations. The explanation? The speed to which a player can move the lever is quite lower at the speed of the vibrations.

- the engine of vibration could be inclu in the lever without having to modify the form of it. There is enough place for the new engine, and this one, concus by Immersion, are lighter for an obstruction equivalent.

- One indeed has to expect a reduction in the autonomy of Sixaxis. Nevertheless, the new engine of vibration does not consume more than the old models (Dualshock) in spite of the fact that it is more powerful.

- the new engine is less expensive to build, and a possible rise in price of the pad should be only very light.

- With an update of the firmware, we will be able to have the vibrations for plays PS2

Details on the "touchsense":

New technology, named “Touchsense” is a mini-revolution. Indeed, from now on, the vibrations will not emanate solely any more from the handles of the pad (as on Dualshock) but will be perceptible in various places of the lever. It as should be specified as they will be more powerful, more intense and over short periods if the programmers wish it. Thus, the developers will be able to create a multitude of still new effects. If Sony chooses this technology, it will thus not act of a simple return of the vibrations, but well of a very new technology

- This technology will be able to reproduce the fast jolt and forces caused by a shot,

- Immersion promises that one will be able to feel the asperities of the road in the plays of race (like Dirt), but also small shocks related on the shiftings of speed and even to accelerations or decelerations

I'd like Sony to come out and say, RUMBLE IS BACK, *****es! =D

Yes, I know it goes against whatever the hell they said, but the fact is, rumble was fun..and although I don't NEED it, I miss having my controller vibrate to let me know I'm dying in the game because I decided to put on TV while the load screen progressed >_<! It'd be especially helpful when I start a Resistance match! 3 deaths just because I started watchign TV..bullcrap!

crap. I was hoping the rumble would be out sooner. It is not sounding promising though. I guess I'll be getting Call of Duty 4 on my 360 instead. I'm still holding out hope that Killzone 2 will have rumble in it via an update as well as a few other games.

Played a few of the old PS2 games on my PS3... and found that the sound actually gives the same effect - could swear I feel the rumble as with the PS2 - and yet - it was only the bass music effects. Not that I am complaining if rumble comes back- just found with the PS3 that I did not actually miss it...

I hope they beef up the controller a bit, it just feels a bit fragile atm.

I heard they settled the dispute over the rumble thing a little while ago so this has probably been in development for at least a month or two. I've never minded not having the rumble and tbh I wouldn't complain if it was added back in. I just hope the rumble doesn't affect the lifespan of the controllers. Afterall, motion and rumble in a controller being shaken about like that could damage it over time...

Playing with FPS with two analog sticks still SUCKS.

I still like to play FPS on PC but in my opinion, I really don't care for the format that Microsoft went with their controller.

I like the fact that my thumbs are lined up and not placed awkwardly away from each other, the games that were coded using those analogs back on the PS2 with FPS was terrible.

Resistance is proof in the pudding that the Sixaxis layout is really well done and how coding to be efficient with the controls should be done on that controller.

Just my two cents for the day.

But i'm always willing to pick up things with more features so ofcourse i'm all for it. But not having it has ZERO impact on my game experiences.
