Rumor: Lair gets a 9 from Edge Magazine and Gamezone

According to an un-named source, two reputable gaming magazines/websites have reviewed Lair and have each given it 9 out of 10. EDGE magazine is one of the these sites which reviewed Lair and gave it a score of 9 out of 10.

Gamezone, the other publishing website that also reviewed Lair and gave it a score of 9 out of ten. According to the un-named source, they label the game as having a "unique experience "

While this has not been confirmed yet, the availability of EDGE magazine and Gamezone will be available in a few days in which we will know if this rumor is true.

now people are posting rumors about rumors? game magazines by definition suck and their online counter parts are not far behind. if people really want to dwell on what score some reviewer gives the game then so be it but do we really need to rile up the fanboys with rumors about what scores a game got? just wait till the scores come out first.

well... its a rumor. IF its true then these are good scores, and definitely coming from EDGE. These scores alone plus the 75% that gamepro gave makes the EGM 5.5 very suspect. But to each his own.
I also agree that game magazines suck, I will get this and pry love it.

you shouldnt believe evrything you read (especally on the net) and judge a game on someone else's review, example, i rate capcom vs snk as one of the best fighting games but some of my mates would review it as crap, do yourself a favour, if in an doubt go pick up a rental copy on release and judge it for yourself!

I own the game and it is not one of the best fighting games( coming from a huge Streetfight fan). Most of the fighters are unbalanced. The fighitng styles are unbalanced and the sprites look terrible.

Funny that this turns up a day after the bioshock review scores. Could it be that someone just liked the idea and jumped on the back of it?

Not slagging off the game or anything as it may be really good, but perhaps we could have some actual news for a change rather than links to fanboy blogs and articles where the title is based on one single line or statistic that doesn't backup the main conclusion at all, but just makes one platform look better than the other.

So if Lair launches and the PS3 community actually likes it, haters will shoot it down because it received a 5.5 from EGM. On the other hand, if Lair doesn't do so well, haters will say "I told you so." Hmm, here's an idea: how about we stop trying to prove our own worth and the worth of our investments by the opinions of others? Answer me this: has a review you read online or in a magazine ever been the sole deciding factor on whether you purchased something you wanted? Hopefully, your answer is 'no,' because hopefully the vast majority of us are smart enough to form opinions based on a number of factors rather than the opinion of a small group of individuals. Some people are going to like Lair. Some people aren't. I know plenty of people that don't like Halo, but I know more that do. Does the amount of people that enjoy a particular game actually affect how good it is? Of course not. I just hope that we all can stop arguing over the little things and just HAVE FUN.

What I like about lair is that it's a different type of game. Yes i know dragon games have been done before, but I think using the sixaxis is a good idea for this game. I do however think they should have made it an option considering that's what brought down the EGM review. I really do think people should give this game a chance to see if the gameplay backs up the incredible graphics. Also, I really think that most people should read reviews from as many sites/magazines as possible before making a purchase so that you can get a general consensus of what the game will really be like. If all reviews are bad, obviously it's bad. In this case I really think Lair might be a great game if people really did give it a chance. It seems that the other reviews were pretty good, so this EGM review might just be the one bad one. I am going to wait and see and I suggest everyone do the same before making any judgements on this game. Another good thing to do is to rent the game and see if you can really get a feel for the sixaxis controls. I look for truely innovative games and I know that this isn't the most innovative, but it certainly is different then most game out there right now. Also, I think little big planet, echocrome, flow, viva pinata, and lost planet are truely creative games that gamers should check out. I can't understand why people don't have the patience to learn or diversify their gaming tastes. It's like drinking the same beer everytime you go out or eating the same thing for dinner every night. I wish more gamers would be open to different types of games.

On another note...I wish fanboys of both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 would just relax and appreciate the great games on both systems. If you can afford both systems, great, if not, pick one that you will enjoy using the most and worse comes to worse, trade it in for the other one! I really don't care which one you like better, all I know is that YOU play on whatever system makes YOU happy. Both systems have their exclusive titles and both share some of the same titles as well. Just stop arguing about which is better then the other, it's just not necessary.

Moving on. I don't thing anyone lives in a cage and decides to get up one day and buy a game off of reviews. We are all avid gamers here( except the fan girls). My issues with lair is repetativness, I bet to wager that that will be the # 1 issues. With air combat, everything is rinse and repeat. Always have been.

If you like this game go ahead and enjoy it, but don't say reviews are worthless. They are just that re-views of a game. In my opinion reviews are often to forgiving. Look at State Of Emergancy = 9.0???

That's true, but that wasn't my point. The message I was trying to get across is that if "Game X" is liked by 100 people and "Game Y" is liked by 100,000, that doesn't necessarily make "Game Y" 100 times better than "Game X." What should determine whether we think a game is good or not is just that: do we THINK the game is good?

I've been hearing this issue a lot lately, but I don't see it being a valid enough point. ALL GAMES are repetitive to a degree. In Gran Turismo, every race is different, but they all involve left turn, right turn, brake, gas, repeat. Even in Halo, every match is unique, but in every one it's still point, shoot, run, jump, grenade, repeat. In Lair's case, yes, the main premise of the game involves flying and shooting. But, you can't ignore the variety as well: boss fights, ground combat, and mid-air grappling techniques. I just don't believe it's fair to call any modern game repetitive without acknowledging that they all share that trait.

Never said that. I personally subscribe to EGM and I enjoy the magazine. All I said was that hopefully people will form their own opinions instead of merely adopting someone else's.

This may be true, but EGM has way more clout than either of these publications. Also, EGM will be the "first impression" that most gamers will get. It will be hard to shake the "6.0" rating, if it turns out to be true.

This was a game that I was looking forward to, but I definitely need a demo now.

Most gamers won't look at EGM for a review. They'll look to either Game Informer or PSM...mostly GI though. I personally like PSM's reviews because they're more in depth than the rest...and they're the least bias Playstation mag EVER. Their new director actually just came from OXM.

Ok, I've seen that last week people are complaining much about reviews and all... Lair and Blue Dragon most notably.

I have one single question. With all the benefits that internet bring, like videos of gameplay, communication with folks that picked the game up, demos on the online consoles... So, with all that, what is all that fuss about a specific opinion on a specific magazine?

Don't matter how professional the reviewer is, he can't go further than his personal opinion.

I mean, in the worst case where you HAVE to listen someone opinion before buy the game, lets at least wait the game come to the light (in a FINAL VERSION) and see what the majority of the press have to tell us about it. And remember that the reasons and discuss in the review will be more valuable than the score.

its a shame. but as with all art, some times great things go unnoticed. There is incredible music, but some people just dont have the patience to sit through 10min+ movements. Its a pity that great games like Okami, Ico, Rez, etc are considered cult-classics. But I think that like great films and all other art, that the creators are in it more for the art than for the sales. Sure I would love the next team ico game to move 10 million copies, but sadly it probably wont happen. But thats what keeps the great artists humble

If EDGE employee came out and made an announcement that Lair scored a 5 but there were rumors it scored a 9 and people soaked it up then you would have some biased people. Wow, now we have EGM and GamePro with scores from 5 to 6 nd then we have EDGE & Play mag with 9s!? This game is a big love or Hate affair I think.
The funny thing is that both EGM and EDGE are hard mags that hardly give high scores and one of them goes for terribly low of 5 for a blockbuster and the other goes for high 9!? If these scores are both true, Lair can be a true cult classic as many other Love/Hate movies and games.

We will all see in about 2 weeks...Some people do not like the sixaxis controls...they will just have to play the game and learn it and get with it. This game is going to rock...it will be a big seller!
