why bother with this at all on the ps3... i mean if you have to do all the modding on yor pc anyways why not just get the cheaper (pc games are 99% of the time like $10 less) pc version that will look better, play better, and have a larger community to play with? i think you fanboys too often forget epic is a PC game company first... thats where they were born. game systems will always be second.

I love Epic...and I always have. UT04' STILL beats the pants off of Halo ANY day. I do believe, however, that they're doing THEIR best to get the PS3 version to look as good as humanly possible! It's their main platform. I think they'll be ohkay! You can also mod on your PS3. It's not too hard if you either use Linux or a crack of XP. Both have applicatons for modding...and a PS3's equiped to handle it. Seriously, not hard.

GOW will be better on PC...yes...but that's because they waited. I seriously doubt they'd make the PC version look better than the PS3 version. I'm just saying.

I agree for the most part, except for you saying UT3 will look better on PS3.

When the DX10 patch for UT3 is released for Vista users, it'll look even better. Sure, the performance won't be too hot, but my point is still valid. All Nvidia needs to do is update their crappy drivers! Then, UT3 will look simply outstanding with DX10 support without a FPS hit.

they already have it looking "better" on the PC...the interview from E3 with one of the Epic developers had him going on about the PS3's optimization...he basically said all the high end visual effects would be intact (basically referring to what you would need a DX10 card to see on a PC)...but the PC will trump it in resolution...which was pretty much a given...most DX10 cards by christmas will have more VRAM than a PS3/360 has total...

The PS3 version has said to have been pursposely slowed as well...which may irritate some fans...but Epic says they did it in order to make the game playable with a controller (while he didn't touch on the mouse/keyboard for PS3 stuff that had been talked about last spring)...the game will most likely not be 1920 x 1080 for the PS3 version also, being that it is said to be locked at 60fps...possibly, but with the amount of visual carnage this game is going to bring, I am pretty sure 720p will be the native resolution...

The only reason we haven't seen a well performing DX10 game is because they were DX9 games with some DX10 features tacked on post-production. We still haven't played a game built with DX10 from the ground up like UT. Oh an if you think the PS3 version will look better than the PC version your just being delusional. It will also play better IMO, because it won't have to accomodate for slow gamepads.

dx10 is over rated, OGL v3.0 is the same thing, do you see anybody drooling for that? just because everybody is saying omg omg dx10 doesnt nessecarily mean its going to be better, go read the reviews dx10 is sloppy at best, you loose soo much performance over hardly any improvements in games such as Lost Planet.

I agree that Halo can't touch Unreal as far as franchisee...If owned a 360 and UT3 was coming out this fall also...i wouldn't get halo 3 until 08 at the earliest...and if UT3 is as good as its older brothers were on the PC, I probably wouldn't get it at all...

but Warhawk is way to different to lump into that...Warhawk is great...I will definitely be getting both on release...

You see, modding has been a huge problem on Xbox Live since 2002, it only got worse when Halo 2 launched.

You had modders pretty much cheating every single game, including Halo 2.

I agree with Microsofts stance on banning modders/cheaters from Online gaming.

But you guys have fun, hopefully the PSN network won't have idiots cheating online.

Thankfully I belong to an honest gaming community so I never have to worry too much about cheaters. :-) I'm sure there will be people who abuse the modding in UT. Glitching was pretty bad in RFOM in the beginning and I'm sure there are other games out there where people are abusing things.

but there will be some type of filter system. There will be games where mods are not allowed also. It shoulnt turn into a modfest. Lets hope epic do as well with the mods as they did with the pc UT's. Maps are all good but dodgy weapons like a rocket launcher that can shoot 4 rockets without the charge is a BIG NO NO u know

No editor with the PS3 version of the game? Kinda defeats the purpose of all this doesn't it? Basically everyone is gonna be held hostage by all those PC users out there, hoping they'll bring over extra content. Game looks great and I'm sure it's gonna play great but this kinda dampers my feelings about it. Atleast allow us to create levels and skins..

The rumor is that the PS3 version will ship with the application also...I guess to be used on the PC (although a severely stripped down linux app could be tailored for the PS3...not sure how taxing the process is on the system though)...

but yeah I agree...if you have to buy the PC version just to have the application for modding...its all somewhat pointless...but I am sure Epic is aware of that, they are looking at this as a huge selling point...I just hope the application doesn't take the same kind of PC that it takes to run UT3 in the first place...My GMA 950 equipped Vaio business notebook never really had the swingin' set for any newer games...plenty of RAM and a decent processor...just no dedicated GPU, not sure if the application will need much attention from that though...

Well this is definately the best console version of the game. Nothing any later version do (other than allow mods), (if we do see later version,) can make it as good as this. Unlimited content.

The only thing I would ask, is that the editor is a free download. It might be already, I dont know but if I have the PS3 version I should be able to download the editor for my PC to create mods with. A Halo level, HA, too funny.

14 - Apparently xbl is getting in the way of a mod feature

so epic said mods for pc and ps3 none 4 360. UT3 is #1 on my fps to buy list, #2 crysis #3 Killzone.

Honestly though I hope they find ways to make Mods happen for both consoles and with out needing to use a pc to make them.

I remember Timespliters on ps2 had mods , they should be able to make it happen on these next gen systems.

Epic is pretty smart. No built in PS3 level/mod/skin editor means that anyone who wants to make a mod/skin/etc. will have to buy the PC version as well. HOWEVER, if mods/maps made on the PC translate perfectly to the PS3, then all a user would have to do is download the map/mod/skin from any of the myriad of UT sites.

21 - I have a theory...

I've been saying, mostly to myself, since before the PS3 came out (you know, the old days) that it looked like the PS3 would supplant the Xbox as the hardcore gaming platform of choice. I've always thought that the Xbox was popular with the hardcore crowd because of the standard HD and what that allows mod-wise. It seems to me that Sony has taken a cue from the Xbox and made the PS3 the uber-platform for doing things with your console other than just regular old playing games (not that there's anything wrong with that) while the 360 has gone away from it's roots by not having a HD as standard hardware and having a generally more closed or less-mod-able architecture. Not that Sony wants anyone to "mod" per se, but with the ability put in a monster HD (without voiding your warranty) and install Linux it would seem that you could do all sorts of crazy things with your PS3 and still stay on the right side of the law (like you care, but still - warranty).

Sorry that's a little off topic, but the modding thing made me think of it.

You can download content. The PC only guys just have to regenerate it for a PS3 version. The tools should be in the PC version too, according to Epic.

This is their major target with this feature I believe.

m8 i used to build maps all the time and go thru the site and download map and mod all the time i ended with about 20 gigs worth then backed them up to dvd .....

so u have no valid point cos people can dl loads of maps and mod try em and if they dont like em then delete them if they like em and want to store them then back it up on dvd theres no hard task there was no mention about you xbox 360 users or any other users flaming now you come in and start on the ps3 ,why dont u just bugger off and go play ur hotbox and leave us lot to enjoy our ps3
