Unreal Tournament 3 exclusive to the PS3 'this year'

Sony announced they had signed a deal with Epic Games to bring Unreal Tournament exclusively to the PS3 for 'this year'.

According to Sony, gamers will be able to port PC Unreal mods to the Playstation 3, and play them via a new multiplayer interface.

No it won't because the Unreal Engine 3.0 was build on Xbox 360 and this will still be the main platform for the UE3 engine. At least PS3 owners will get UTII with visuals that are evenly matchable with the Xbox 360 version.

But Jack's statement was something like they are pleased to announce that this year Unreal tournament 3 is exclusive.

It could mean that this year they are announce its ps3 ONLY
or that 360 will get it next year.

previous Unreal tournaments were pretty much Online only with tournaments in single player. Unreal Tournament 3 however is totally different, they got the same lady that did the Gears of war story to make a story for Unreal tournament 3.

If it is like Unreal Tournament, it will have a single player, but it'll just be playing with computer bots on multiplayer maps...so these games are bought pretty much just if you want the multiplayer experience.

Ooh. I like that...being able to import mods. Since this is a PS3 exclusive for the time being, that means that 360 will eventually get it...but will the mods happen on the 360? Hope so...REALLY hope so.

They are cashing in without games having to be Exclusive. They gave MS GOW and now Sony first dibs on UT3. Now maybe Sony fans will retract their nasty comments about EPIC and GOW this past year. You are now getting some much needed "LOVE".

With HAZE , well it's all about the HALO3 effect, simple as that.

What did you guys think of the conferences?

I thought it was Sony > Nintendo > MS. Sony did a great job of reminding us why the PS3 is worth $500 (or $600 for that matter), Nintendo had a lot of interesting news and MS basically just showed us a console that looks like it was made the last second with a spray can.

I do, however, think that the holiday '07 will play differently. KZ2 and MGS4, the two best parts of the conference, are '08 releases, so even though there's plenty of reason to buy a PS3 this year I think people (being the cheap bastards that they are) will end up waiting more to pick up the PS3.

I expect that Halo 3 will sell a lot. I know, I know, it didn't look too great at E3, but that doesn't matter to all of the mindless Halo fans out there. I also expect that Nintendo will do quite well because of WiiFit's appeal to the mass consumer and the triple-whammy that is MP3, SMG, and SSBB.

In conclusion, I think Holiday '07 will go Nintendo > MS > Sony. Instead of disagreeing with me (because I really do see all 3 consoles equally) make a logical comment. I'm trying to start a discussion, not a flame war.

What is it that made you think Sony won the show? I think it's more like MS=Sony > Nintendo. Nintendo didn't seem to try very hard.. But then again they don't need to since they are seriously whooping both Sony and MS in sales, it's not even a competition really. There was nothing that really stood out that I didn't already know from Sony apart from seeing KZ 2 in action. MS had some good tidbits like Live being built into the Unreal 3 engine.. That is huge!

Basically they seem to match up point for point.. It's just MS's games have been in the public eye longer(last E3) than what Sony was showing.

actually Sony pays for the optimization of the U3 engine on the Ps3 in general, not for UT3.
As this also helps Epic to sell the engine to other devs, they gave something back and thus UT3 became timed exclusive. Its an usual "you help me, i help you" aggreement

UT3 is not PS3 exclusive.... it was the cover story for last months official xbox magazine, and they went into deep detail on how the 360 version was coming along, and how the base the PC version on the 360's version and then spruce up the visials some more on the PC.

It will have a single-campaign, up to 4 player co-op....... i was waiting for this game and i'm pissed it's getting delayed, hopefully it wont be some 6 months bullsh*t...

its funny though, they were quoted in the magazine saying they weren't afraid of releasing in sept along side of any other game especially one with halos in it because they said they know they made a great game...... well not that i guess they were scrared, but its the smart thing to do not releasing along side of Halo.

I am an "xbot" but i gotta say this E3 was dissappointing for me. Killzone2 really is the only thing I saw that made me think "wow". I downloaded the trailer for Too human on XBL and it was laughabley bad. Halo3 looks ok graphically and i know the gameplay will be steller but it just looked outdatted to me. Mass Effect didnt do it for me either since I like gritty graphics and it looked too polished for me. I should be happy though cause I can look forward to getting a PS3 now. COD4 will be what I look forward to on the 360 and killzone 2 on PS3

I kind of felt the same. I did think the Halo graphics looked better than the beta graphics though... but yea, they were still somewhat of a letdown. The gameplay will be on point.

But the news of Sony getting NCSoft, signing a game engine deal with Epic, getting timed exclusives of Haze & UT3 both to be optimized for PS3 hardware (for once!), and seeing KZ2 finally in action was a pretty good package. Although I do admit that I wanted more surprises & new IP's... although I do look forward to more footage from the maker of Sly Cooper!

All in all, Sony gave me the most to look forward to. But I will still get Halo, Mass Effect & Lost Odyssey eventually. Lol, just don't know if I'll have time to play them w/ all the games coming out on PS3!

There were rumours of Epic falling out with Microsoft a little bit about how they wanted to put the gears content over Epic wanted to do it for free for the fans and Microsoft wanted to charge people for it, maybe that has something to do with it what does everyone else think?
