Unreal Tournament 3 infos from OXM: 3 to 4 dozen multiplayer maps
18
Beyond Unreal cracked open the most recent issue of OXM and discovered that Unreal Tournament 3 will ship with a good 3-4 dozen multiplayer maps.
Aside from the gameplay shown in the video, it offered a few details about the game. It was said that the original idea was to make gigantic maps utilizing UE3's streaming technology for up to 64 players at once. They decided that it didn't feel like a UT game and went back to improving the original formula. Each map starts out as a basic BSP layout and is play tested until they think it is fun and then it is handed over to have static meshes and the rest of the artistic assets created. There will be 3 to 4 dozen multiplayer maps in the retail version of the game. The single player portion will have even more maps than multiplayer.

This guys are all about "the gamer". I mean, with DLC being as prominent as it is these days, they could easily get away with shipping UT3 with 15-20 maps and nobody would flinch. But 3 to 4 DOZEN maps is above and beyond the... "Call of Duty"? lol

Wow. I doubt I will play some of them more than once (if ever) but awesome none the less.
edit: it could be fun to switch maps after each round like in CTF games

5.1 - Just like all of the other Multiplatform titles???
If history is anything ot judge by, I'd say your money is best spent on the 360 version since most of the previous multiplatform titles have performed better on the Xbox360 than the PS3... Now set me on fire, it's the truth

8 - So what this title being an alledged timed exclusive for the PS3?
You guys remember - supposedly there was a delay with the 360 version because of the whole user-created-content issue.
I've been hoping it wasn't true since I have a 360 and have not yet bought my PS3...

LOTS of compression...and a huge cache file...unless, which is very unlikely, its more than one DVD...
IGN has this listed in January/February '08 for all 3 systems...have no idea why...when the only official thing mentioned from Epic was that the game will be "ready when its ready", but went on to hint at late summer...and Epic never commented on the user content issue with MS officially...they just debunked the rumor that they would never work with MS as 1st party developer again...(a dumbass rumor to begin with)...
Personally user content is extremely important to Unreal, or at least used to be...I like that Sony is allowing it..but without some sort of tool/kit to do PS3 specific content, I don't know how well it will work...the PC stuff is easy for the most part...and MS still says "NO WAY!!eleven"...which apperantly angered Epic, resulting in all those rumors in the first place...
who knows...keyboard/mouse support has been confirmed for only the PS3 console wise...(its funny how some of you mentioned this is true for the PC...No one would have guessed that)...which hopefully works well...it will either result in only K/M use, or they will put in some really strong auto aim stuff...that could make or break the whole thing, kind of like Halo 2 on the PC...
It has taken me about 6 years...but I am finally very comfortable with two analog sticks for an FPS...K/M still my favorite I guess, but doesn't work as well sitting back on a couch...

Hmmm I imagine the say way that monstrous world of oblivion fit. The blueray disc vs. dvd size arguement died along time ago. No game has truely needs a blueray disc as of yet. The only games in the future i see needing the size would be MGS4 due to all the dialog and ff13. Both game if put on dvd could be split onto more than one disc like metal gears 1 did on the ps.

1. The 360 supports a keybaord and mouse, but since the controller is design to work great for shooters they don't rely on the fact. Also don't tell me I am wrong I use my keyboard all the time.
2. The mod created content for the PS3 is just that, the PC community will be able to move the stuff onto the PS3, and so far the 360 version doesn't allow that, the PS3 isn't getting its own kit to do this stuff
3. Unreal works a lot better on the 360

1. yes it does but not for games.
2. The ps 3 version will end up being better than the 360 due to this restriction in my opinion.
3. As of now this is true but things can change. This isnt like rainbow 6; the engine was made by epic and they know how to best use it. The ps 3 also does have more Horsepower.
I personally am getting the pc version with 1920 x 1200 > 1280 x 720.

ok
1. Right on for getting the PC version, I respect anyone who supports PC gaming.
2. The 360 really was built around the unreal engine, the ram and all that was put in because epic wanted it in. Also the unreal engine is a PC engine first and for-most and since the 360 is a PC based console it will run Unreal way better

What you are saying is 100 correct but I was just trying to point out that things can change and EPIC knows what they are doing. They wouldn’t put it on the ps3 first if they couldn’t get it to run correctly. Epic is built on unreal and they wouldn’t chance putting it on a system that can't run it properly.
