they won't need to modify the engine much, so here's hoping for a Co-op mode.

KZ3 is a given. KZ2 already gathered a massive fanbase. New additions like coop would make the game even more enjoyable.

KZ3 will up the visual bar once more, I feel sorry for those trying to catch up.

Killzone 2 was a solid game, but some improvements could definitely be made. I'm also curious to see sort of graphical improvement there will be. I wouldn't expect a HUGE jump, but I wonder if it'll surpass Uncharted 2(or Heavy Rain or whatever else is out at its release) as the PS3's best looking game.

1.6 - this is all killzone 3 needs to be a better sequal...
1.longer campaingn the level design was absolutley incredible in killzone 2 its a shame the campaign didnt last so long
2.co-op mode would be epic i couldnt think of a better game for co-op it felt like a squad shooter
3.better story..now personaly i think the whole concept behind killzone 2 is great , it uses the nazi germany theme for inspiration and kinda converts it to a futuristic space shooter but the problem with killzone 2 was with the characters they were undeveloped the fast half of story is virtually asleep and then during the later half it starts to get interesting, cinematic, and engaging but the characters are so underdeveloped you dont really care for them and as result you didnt care about the story i found that quite dissapointing.

and yeah thats about it i didnt really have anything wrong with the game thats all really

On a purely technical level, Killzone 2's engine is much more impressive. Uncharted has a much better art direction though.

1.9 - Biggest problems with KZ2
- No Aim Assist in Scope mode
- Default of 32 Players is too high
- Not enough expansive Multiplayer levels (especially to support 32 players)
- Too hard to kill someone (takes too many shots and with limted AA, its very hard)
......others
- Party system
- death match
- More Game modes
- Default Server Configurations (so we don't get 100 lame games, people create, that suck)
- Halo-esche style ranking system
- Do not force people to unlock stuff to use other weapons (just leads to bullcrap games being made, for quick level ups)
- More expansive ranking (Prestige style)

You can disagree all you want. I'm a Hardened Sony fanboy and have 100+ hrs in killzone 2 and My complaints (specifically the first few) are accurate. KZ3 will never be a bombshell of a game with changes, i've come to realize this and if you dont' your a child in denial.

Anyone says that not having Aim Assist in Scope mode, is a complete moron. Same with the 100 shots to kill someone. Until these are changed Crappy generic military games (COD) will outshine a stylized game like Killzone.

Truth*

The only way im gonna buy this game is under 2 conditions.

1) Fix that weighty feel bullcrap and give us responsive controls. KZ2 was the first game I ever played that turned me off simply because of the controller lag. And no the update didn't fix anything when they added sensitivity boost. It made it worse.

2) Have more maps for the online @ launch. Also, fix the crappy online menus KZ2 had. It would be easier if they just had a quick match with your party option. It would also help out with some people not having all the map packs. Sorta how like the COD franchise does it.

When speaking in a video interview with a Dutch TV Show recently, Guerilla Studios employee Jan-Bart Van Beek is reported to claim "Right now, Killzone 3 for a release in 2011, is being developed. Who knows, maybe we'll see the game even as early as 2010."

I don't expect KZ3 to be much different then 2 (in regards of co-op or such - maybe an online co-op is possible, but sure no split screen). 4 player online co-op with the 3 other buddies would be cool.

I think they will improve their render tech, though. Some might be art direction (level design, character design, lip sync/facial expressions/mo-cap etc.) and some changes might just be optimizations, like full dynamic water, reflection, more destruction, more colors (? jungle level anyone?).

Please, no CoD style gun handling. If there's one thing I don't need in KZ is an arcade style online shooter. No thx. Enough out there already.

Actually, I just started UC2 "horde" mode (sorry, but that's what it is). Now, come up with more maps and more then 3 players. Done deal. No need for DM any more... and then, by end of 2010/2011 I am ready for a KZ3 challenge there :)

^ Speaking of Aim Assist. In Borderlands, even if you turn it off when you use scope, it'll move it for you when your enemy runs away. It pisses me off greatly. My gun, my character, and it's suppose to be my aim! I hate aim assist.

Killzone 2 had about 'right' for the amount of bullets it takes to kill someone.

By the way, if you're gonna want more damage, then keep aim assist out of scope mode. Or keep it the same in terms of damage and make it aim assisted. Not both.

Why not make it the Holiday release? That engine was already gorgeous. I know I'm going to be amazed when I see what they did with it for KZ3. Killzone 3 just needs an aggressive and sensible ad campaign ala what Uncharted 2 got.

1.20 - Uh, no Victor
Uncharted 2 destroys Killzone 2 in every way, including technically. It pushes more polygons on the screen, that's for sure. Hell, the Killzone characters are mostly ugly and look lifeless compared to Uncharted 2.

Killzone 3, who knows, it might raise the bar in graphics again. But I hope it has more variety than the previous one because I got bored so fast, it's basically another FPS which is almost as generic as Halo or MW2, no thanks; I like the music, the sounds, the graphics and hell the controls, but the game turned repetitive after a while; the storyline behind the first and the PSP game are good but Killzone 2's story sucked, and the acting was really poor; Uncharted 2's acting is best compared to anything.

For console FPS, I prefer Resistance. It's more fun than any of the crap on all platforms, especially the first one.

I agree ReviewsArePolitics. I think U2 definitley topped KZ2 graphic wise. I wish GG started work on a new IP instead of a KZ sequel. I thought KZ2 was graphically amazing, but at the end of the day it was just another FPS and the universe/characters/story didn't appeal to me what so ever. I'd like to see them flex their muscle on something else.

K2 was great for GG's first attempt on the PS3. However, as great as it was (and it is, I have put in 100+ hours into it), it was very bare bones.

Single player with no co op (something GG regretted), no split-screen (I understand the graphics and processing would be too much but I'm willing to sacrifice GFX for Gameplay anytime), and a multiplayer mode that had only five very basic modes.

Now again, it's all very fun. Though I did have some issues with the MP being too unbalanced at first (anyone remember the auto-shotgun and the suicide rocket spammers who did not get punished for suiciding?) and though GG seems to treat the community poorly (simply look at the forums to see the lack of support/very slow support) and you will see that Killzone 2 is still a good game, but it can be a lot better if GG games can support it. I'm still waiting for a party system. They took a long time to get the game to the majority of the community's liking, but at least they did it. They are on break now but I can't wait to see what they have for us when they come back. I'm hoping for more modes rather than more maps.

Don't get me wrong, those issues aside I gave this game a solid 9.3/10 in my books.

Now that GG is comfortable with the PS3 and now that they have the structure down (the reason why they took so many years was because they had to build up the structure to develop the game anyway) I am expecting a strong amount of modes with co-op. Co-Op was the biggest omission in K2.

And for the love of God make a good story! The concept and backstory is all great, I would love to play as the Helghast because they really seem like the good guys despite being ruled by a maniac.

I can't wait for K3, but luckily K2 is still loads of fun to play-- one of my fondest memories was no scoping 4 guys in a row who kept rushing in stupidly while I was a sniper. This was during the beta. I also remember in Radec how I would constantly have a snipe-off from one end of a hallway to the other with another sniper. Good times.

10.1 - i agree with you on some points :)
GG definitely regretted not including co-op features, but with KZ2 being their first experience developing for the PS3, it's to be expected(COD4 doesn't have one too).

As for the story, it was decent i guess, but it could definitely have been delivered better considering that the KZ universe has so much potential and epic background story.

This may sound weird, but KZ2 is the only FPS where i truly enjoyed firing a gun :) It just feels so right -the recoil, power, animation, everyth ing. Firing that ISA LMG feels almost like the real thing (i man the mounted MG when i was in the army).

Sure Killzone 2's deferred rendering path was fairly impressive, but the game still featured pretty many dynamic lights that did not cast shadows due to performance hit that would come with it. Not only that, but shadows were often very low quality in Killzone 2.

When talking about environment and character geometry, Uncharted 2 beats Killzone 2 so badly it's not even funny. Killzone 2 also had more performance issues than Uncharted 2 did, and it had loading pauses mid-level, and more load screens in general. I don't even need to bring up the input lag, which by the way was not there by choice of the developers.

Edit: comment response fail ;/

@OpenGL

Clearly UC2 is a overall better looking game than KZ2, character modeling, better textures that look awesome under an uniform lightning source (broad daylight). However even when no every light in KZ2 casts a shadow, the lighting system in KZ2 blows UC2's out of the water. Simply put there is not comparison when you play KZ2 and UC2 during night time.

I still fail to see where the infamous "input lag" is. I never had a single issue with that, not even before the patch (I finished the single player campaign in HARD with no patch applied). I'm starting to think there is problems with some people TVs, probable high latency lcds (>6ms) is the main source of this "issue".
Shut this user up Let user speak
gijsbrecht - 14 days 5 hours ago
13.2 - I agree with you on the character part, but . . .
when it concerns the environment, the lighting, particles and such then I think that KZ2 is as impressive as UC2. And lets not even talk about the AI. Sorry, but UC2's AI is not that impressive when compared to KZ2. Well, that's my opinion anyway.

@ raztad

I'm sorry, but the TV excuse is pure BS. I've played Killzone 2 on numerous displays ranging from a 2ms LCD panel to a 600Hz Panasonic Plasma. The input lag is likely due to the use of triple buffering in combination with their complex deferred rendering path and post process effects.

The fact that it is not experienced in other games like Uncharted 2, Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Infamous, etc would suggest Killzone 2 is the issue. Now with all of that said, Killzone 2's input lag certainly does not make the game unplayable. I myself enjoyed the game's single player and multi-player quite a bit, but there is room for improvement as far as latency is concerned.

@ gijsbrecht

Killzone 2's AI is definitely better than Uncharted 2's. It's possibly the best in any game at the moment.
