1.17 - Spoken like a White Suburbanite...
Look I know I can't expect most White people to relate to the urban/African-American experience of cops who abuse their authority. I know many of you trust cops under the pretense that any thing they say must be true, and any force they use must have been justified.

But you don't have to call someone trash.

I was always told to leave when cops showed up where I grew up. My nephew was being prosecuted for murder. The cop swooped him up because he just knew the guys who were having a shoot out. Did he do something wrong? No, he ran home and called the police. They arrested him, but luckily the case was thrown out. They based their case off another boy's record.

My cousin was a gang member, and he was convicted for weapon possession. He found religion in prison and has been on the straight and narrow for years now. Still he gets harassed. Police officers have pulled up to the bus stop and made his son sit in their squad car to intimidate him, hoping it get back to him. That's just crossing the line.

Growing up I had shots fired at my house. A shot almost hit my mother while she was getting ready for bed. The cops told it wasn't targetted at us...when they showed up three days later. In poorer communities, cops often come when they want. I had a cop friend of mine ignore a call while he was talking over at my house one time.

This year a youth in Indianapolis was killed when a cop tasered him and ran him over. From another cop friend, I hear the thing to do is drive-by tasers - it is hysterical. Obviously, it also can be fatal.

I don't trust cops with good reason. It is not all of them, but enough to make me wary of police in certain situations. They have a lot of power available to be abused, and more than you would like to think do exactly that.

There is something about the gun and the authority. They think they can get away with stuff, and they typically do in poorer communities where people are considered "trash" and are suspect anyway.

Now do I make you sick? If so, well you know where you can shove it. Cause it doesn't change the collective experience of thousand upon thousands of people.

1.18 - @dirtylary, I'm trash you say?? huh... your name speaks different...
"I hope one day you really need the Police and they take their sweet time coming to your aide. People like you disgust me."

Actually, that did happen one time, matter of fact, I got there answering machine, left a message and those Pigs didn't show up or even responded for that matter...
So if you don't know my issues with the cops pulling me over for no reason all the time or don't even involve me committing any type of crime in general... I suggest you shut your trash talking mouth stupid momma's boy!

Sheikh.

"Look I know I can't expect most White people to relate to the urban/African-American experience of cops who abuse their authority. I know many of you trust cops under the pretense that any thing they say must be true, and any force they use must have been justified."

You realize no one is saying that all Cops speak the truth, yes?
There are poor Cops as well as good Cops. Just like in any other profession. there are poor Doctors and good Doctors. As far as force goes, I do not dare speculate as I do not know the circumstances with whichever situation, nor do I pretend to know what it really is to be a Police officer. Do I respect them, yes.
They do a job that not many want to do, further more they are looked down upon and called "pig" usually by someone who is uneducated or too young to really understand how the world really plays out in all things. And, really it happens all too often. Too many people dismiss the Police as "pigs" because they got a few speeding tickets, of which they were no doubt guilty of.

AKNNA.
"Actually, that did happen one time, matter of fact, I got there answering machine, left a message and those Pigs didn't show up or even responded for that matter"

I have a hard time believing this. I know many Police Officers in my area, calls are something that aren't neglected. Of course they prioritize these calls. Which call do you think they will respond to first? Domestic disturbance or some drunk guy walking down the street? This is just an example mind you, never the less I would like for you to answer that question, please. It also sounds as though you didn't call 911. Perhaps it wasn't a real emergency?

"So if you don't know my issues with the cops pulling me over for no reason all the time or don't even involve me committing any type of crime in general"

Don't you think you may just be a little over-dramatic here? I find it hard to believe that the cops will go out of their way to pull you over for no reason at all and all of the time apparently. This just isn't adding up. Why would they bother you so? You must have done something before to merit what you lay claim to?
The police in my city don't really pull people over, the way they see it, they have more important things to do, like protect the citizens from the real threats out there. Of course if someone is driving erratically they'll get pulled over. Point is your story isn't adding up.
Where do you live, this would provide some insight into your claims. Please don't take offense, I am a skeptic by nature, I'm curious.

"I suggest you shut your trash talking mouth stupid momma's boy!"

Now this doesn't get anyone anywhere. An idle threat only makes you look foolish. As does the assumption.

1.20 - Highwayman proves my point...
No one denies that policemen have an ungrateful and dangerous job. Or that they are "good" cops. It is just people are people, and with power and authority there is always a likelihood of abuse and corruption.

You are actually contributing to the problem when you say "of which they were no doubt guilty of." Did you know it is dumb to hit your brakes before a speed trap. Even if you are not speeding, a cop will be more prone to pull you over. Radar detectors tell cops someone is speeding. It is up to their visual cues to determine which one. It is not necessarily malciousness. It is error, and when racial profiling comes into play it is bias.

It is not a simple situation because it has been going on for years, accepted for years, but your cynicism and skepticism is neither appreciated nor helpful. You see I believe you only get pulled over when you are guilty of speeding. I bet police officers at least appear to be more effective in the suburbs. While your ignorance is bliss to us, our caution is a crime to you. I guess we just have our own realities we have to live in.

"they have more important things to do, like protect the citizens from the real threats out there"

Lol! who?? Cops?? LMFAO!!! oh man, that is the funniest JOKE I heard all day! I live in ottawa ontario in canada, pretty quiet town compared to Toronto, not that much crime occurs, just here and there like most towns and cities... Although, in ottawa there is a huge amount of cops patrolling most areas of the city, maybe its because its the capital of canada or something... Anyways, these cops do sh1t all except park side by side with each other and chat in the parking lot somewhere. useless, unhelpful and accuses me of being involved with gangs when I had to go to the police station in person since I kept getting there answering machine after calling cause my brand new $40,000 jeep got vandalized, WTF??
instead of taking me in as the victim, they questioned me as if I was a suspect?? "are u in a gang?" "do you have any enemies?" "why do u think they would vandalize ur vehicle in the first place?"
their conclusion was basically something to do with gang related because of a symbol they sprayed on my hood?? I've seen lots of gang symbols all my life, but that did not look like no gang symbol...

also, when your asian in a white community and drove a nice 2000 mustang in the year 2001 just parked in the plaza for a bit to talk to some friends then immediately spotted by cops in the corner then followed after leaving the parking lot and pulled over, I'd say there is something wrong there considering that there were several dozens of youths and teens hanging there...

another example, 3am. no cars on the street, I make a right turn without signaling and out of no where an undercover cop van pulls me over??? really?? I work the midnight shift and was out to get some food on my break and get pulled over because of making a rite turn without signaling cause there was absolutely no cars in sight???

there are other experiences that made me despise cops but I'm already writing a novel here...
you'll understand when it happens to you.
