Sony: 'Home is still a top priority'

Sony has moved to reassure fans of PlayStation Home on PS3 that the virtual world remains a "top priority" for the platform holder, despite reports of the contrary.

According to an Edge report, Sony's director of PlayStation Home, Pete Edwards, speaking at the London Games Conference, said: "It's been a long road. We've proved there is a market out there and we've got a lot of people that spend a lot of time in [Home]. It's not a priority right now but there is a business model there."

Sony is now reporting that Edwards was misquoted and misrepresented.

1 - Can't fault them for wanting to make money
off all those digital clothes purchased. I booted up Home a few nights back and only made it like 5 minutes. The Buzz space is pretty cool. Maybe a Heavy Rain space modeled after that E3 demo where the killer is in the house would be something. Have your avatar investigate the house and try to get out before the killer reaches him.

Home still needs the following:
Pictures on your hdd should be able to be hung up in the game in your apt
Should be able to play music off your hdd in your homespace
same thing with videos. It might be cool to have a virtual sort of movie night in your home space with all your buds there. Have an option to make the video the full screen with a chat box to the right so everyone can talk to one another.

1.1 - Um...
You can hang up pictures in your apartment... If you made it only 5 minutes, I doubt those things you listed would make you interested in Home. You'd go play music and then the novelty would wear off very quickly.

the only reason why i visit home once in awihle to check out the new home spaces from ND, Insominiac etc etc/
As I dont really care for the social aspect that MS n Sony have going for. i check out the minigames that they offer, try em n then gtfo to play Demons Souls ^^

Home may not be top priority for Sony alone. But for the Home team, it is. As long as long as they think it is, Home will keep getting updated like crazy. I was surprised to see so many home spaces when i logged in after the 1.30 update. Last time i checked out Home before that was in he closed beta

I say give up on Home or do something with it. Right now Home is in limbo3, it's a separate application that has nothing to do with actual gaming. As it stands Home is nothing more than Second Life where Sony tries to micro transaction you to death. I always though home would be a new UI where everything could be accessed from your apartment. But it's just a separate app that takes to long to load or do anything. Game launching in home is kind of a good idea, but whats the point of wasting your time launching Home just to launch a game that takes you out of Home. I had high hopes for Home but after 5min I knew it was just overly elaborate chat rooms with mini games.

Perhaps you didnt logged into home for a while. yes, you can now take your pictures from your HDD and hang it in your Apt. but it costs money to do so. possibly about $3-$5.

Their top priority should be cross game chat. That should then be linked to pairing up with players u are already playing a game with ingame and teleporting to a home space to do something else like watching a movie. The more sony makes home relevant to the game I'm playing, the more I will have an incentive to visit home. Right now I would rather go to the playstation store. To me home sucks right now. Buzz TV is good though.

I just wish we could go from space to space without loading. That's terrible!

3 - I Haven't Visited Home In A While
Some of the mini-games are fun but overall I've never enjoyed it that much or seen the point. My brother loves it for a reason I still don't understand but to each his own.

@Above: I hate the loading screens too.

I personally never went back to Home after the first 3 days. I even uninstalled it for more disk space

You'd be surprised to find out what you can do now

Play poker with up to 7 friends
play buzz with up to 30 friends in one space (really fun if you have some thick mates)

That tends to be what i use it for although i must admit the Uncharted 2 strategy game has really got me hooked

5 - Question
If start up a voice chat in Home then do a game launch will you be partied up in the game? And when exiting the game and going back to Home will you still be connected via voice chat? If so that would work as cross game chat would it not?

7 - I enjoy HOME.
I gamelaunch everything from there so that when i quit game im immediatly back into HOME. I enjoy it because I feel that my gaming experience is continued even when i take a break.

I like that i play socom and quit game to the socom space to check the overhead maps.

after some demons souls i take a break and start lighing up a fat blunt and check out the movie space and wathc some videos.

after some killzone 2 I go to the XI space and use the HUB to visit N4G and Then I game launch right back. ITs a continueing cycle.

What is really fun for me is to pick fights with people and battle them on street figher or tekken6. I go to the resident evil space and find someone to co - op with.

Its like im a part of the PSNETWORK and I can transform into anything or do everything while being connected online. For me, its a great way to escape reality and be in the game.

I think thats why alot of Home users enjoy HOME. we arent afraid to get lost in PSN.
I love the camera and new poses!

I gave up sony,I was having faith in home when it first release,I said it may have huge potential, gonna make your online dream come true but I was totally wrong

home is one of the most boring things I've seen in my whole gaming life,it's so pointless,So lifeless,So much much time to get into something worthless

All I can tell sony is to focus on Fw updates, look at xbox life, see how they can make you connected to everything and then implement it to psn

as a multiconsole owner,I can see my money go the 360 version of mw2 and the reason is LIVE,it's a better online environment than playstation network and no one can deny it,there are more chances of fun in xbl

but people didn't want to pay for it, so it was dropped.

If you wanted backwards compatibility you should have gotten it. We the gamers, and the haters, are the ones responsible for it being dropped.

But if it was dropped then why was it revealed back in August that Sony was working on a patent to emulate the emotion engine through software? I know that Jack Tretton said that backwards compatibility was not coming back in an interview when the Slim was announced but it's ironic how he also said that there wasn't going to be a PS3 Slim but lo and behold. It's not a question of "if" it's coming back, it's a question of "when." And that's what I want to know. If it's not coming for another year or two then it would help convince me to get a PS2 now.

11 - Voice chat is key.
Bring back the voice chat anywhere anytime and I will be back again. I used to play music and went around talking to everyone. They took that off. Never went back again. It sucks because I have the money to spend in it but since they don't offer the freedom of speech I won't be in it until they do.

They can't ... they tested it ..it was misused it will be a while before it will be back in the first form

ANd IMO the voice chat we have now is better ...

Full voice chat in private spaces ...
Friend and inviet voice chat in public spaces ...

I was sick of hearing the same guys abusing music everywhere and the swearing word "f..., b.... and so on " everywhere because it was impossible to moderate ... AND EVERY ONLINE WORLD NEED SOME KIND OF MODERAION ...

I went back inthere earlier this week and damn quit a bit has changed. There are alot more adds and game spaces for 1st and 3rd party games now. It really is starting lively up in Home. I mainly use it when one of my girlfriends are on and want me to come in though. Pool and bowling are still the best games in home though.
