Final Fantasy VII: Citizen Kane for the gaming set

The Globe and Mail writes:

...experiencing [Final Fantasy VII] again as it was originally designed is like watching the black and white version of a classic film as opposed to a newly colourized edition, or reading Shakespeare without Coles Notes. It's a bit more difficult--perhaps even a little frustrating--but worth it in the end, if for no other reason than to be reminded of some of the ways in which game design and technology has changed over the years.

Should video games still exist in recognizable form 50 or 100 years from now, Final Fantasy VII will almost certainly be recognized as one of the medium's early classics and great genre pioneers. If you've never played it, it's worth taking the time now. It's all but destined to become Citizen Kane for the gaming set.

1 - Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VII is the most overrated game of all time, it pales in comparison to likes of FF VI and Chrono Trigger infact it's not even in the top 10 of JRPG the only reason people even rate this game so highly is because it was the first JRPG many of them played, it reminds me of that FPS game featuring a Spartan even the fans are in the exact same situation the first game they played of a certain genre great and they swear down that it is the greatest of it's genre, the only difference is that Halo is in the top 10 of it's genre.

To say that Halo is in the top 10 of its genre is a joke. If it had been released on PC or Mac it would have been forgotten soon after release. You made any good points you made seem stupid by making that comment.

And to make things clear, FF7 wasn't my first RPG, but the characters and the world on offer are some of the best in the genre I have ever seen. Everything just clicked, most fans only have to hear a snippet of the theme tune to feel nostalgic.

Overrated or not, there must be a reason why it has remained popular for so long after release. Sure, it exposed the genre to many new players who hadn't played RPGs but since when was that a bad thing? Basically, if you think FF7 is not a classic, but Halo is, you are pretty deluded mate. (And why even bring Halo, a first person shooter, up in the first place?)

Seems like you just wanted to rag on some playstation games and then big up the xbox to me!
