I would get this game, but considering that they would probably still wanna keep the "weighty feel to the controls" I think im gonna have to pass. I mean, Killzone 2 would be my favorite shooter out, its just way too slugish for me.

One of the patches add an option for your "COD" feel to controls. So sir, your point is moot.

I am logging off of this N4G site today. It is 830 and all I see is uniformed people spewing slander.

lol Penny.
Yeah, people are still stuck in Feb 09 it seems.
The patch for those 'COD'y controller came awhile ago.
And it made the game alot more accessible. Anyone who hasnt tried it yet.. i pity them. =/ Its a better expereience then COD4 (imo) thanks to no Connection host lost and since the gameplay is for the most part identical.

btw, I was more happy to hear about R3 (and waiting on inFAMOUS 2)

K3 n COD:WaW2 can wait. They really didnt do much for me because the lack of co-op in K2 n COD:WaW.. well it was just another World war game -.- (albeit zombie mode was fun for abit)

I don't think Killzone 3 will likely be released so soon. I know Sony would like to get as many of their exclusive franchise to market as soon as possible after the early gen delays but Resistance 3 seems more likely. I don't see both being released in 2010.

Edit @ Hellsvacancy

I know the developing the engine was what slowed development but I really don't see Sony releasing 3 FPS franchises in 2010. Especially Killzone 3 and Resistance 3, two of it's biggest franchised. You'll split you base and not allow either to really build a community and with a next Call of Duty title likely and possibly Battlefield 3, I just don't see it happening.

This is 100% BS. Why would Sony let MAG, Resistance 3, and Killzone 3 come out in the same year? It's not going to happen.

2010 = MAG in January and Resistance 3 in November. Bet on it.

As for Killzone 3 that will be late 2011 I bet.

Exactly what I was thinking.

KZ3 will come in 2011.

I think we'll see Heavenly Sword announced at E3 '10. A little random I know, but since we're talking about potential sequels that we KNOW is eventually going to come, I'm just making a guess.

They did release KZ2 in early 2009 just a few months after Resistance 2. If the game was ready, I don't see why they would wait that long to get it out.

I seriously doubt KZ3 will be coming in 2010, it may be announced in 2010 though. The holiday season is open for Resistance 3, and early 2010 we have way too many games. If it is coming, it will release around February 2011. That gives the 2 full years of development, and they can release a completely polished game.

I didn't have any problems with KZ2 controls, but then again I'm not a COD4 noob. Plus they did add the option later for the crying COD fanboys.

I loved Killzone 2 and Resistance 2, but they both have problems.

I enjoyed the weight in Killzone 2, but not in the controls, they need to polish the controls more, add more diversity to the environments and enemies (KZ1 hounds need to return), and other miscellaneous things like working on the art direction, getting rid of that little pause every time you reach a checkpoint, and basically just improve the game overall.

Online needs the cover system put in, so build online levels around the cover mechanic we use cover in Uncharted 2 online so that excuse doesn't fly anymore.

Resistance however, needs to be rethought. Resistance: FOM, and Resistance 2 felt like 2 completely different games. Insomniac needs to work out a way to make Resistance 3 more cohesive.

Resistance 3 needs to focus on the single player campaign, and make it as good if not better than the first.

Bring the weapon wheel back (EVERYONE WANTS THIS, and it saves you from placing a rocket on the ground before every boss fight). Also bring back all the weapons from both games, and add new weapons.

Bring all the chimeras back from the first and second game and make new ones (a fight against a boss leaper would be nice).

Let us play as Nathan Hale (I like consistency) would be nice if we had Chimeran powers, we should be able to jump further, run faster, etc... Kind of like the powers in Crysis.

60 player multiplayer is a big number, but now we're at 256 stop trying to top those numbers and make online better. Bring the vehicles into the online modes, and make the online a mix of Halo and Warhawk. That mix seems like the perfect online game for me.

Co-op was great in Resistance 2, but it was too straight forward. It needs to give you that rush and feel like Left 4 Dead does. 8 vs. 8 co-op would be nice and it would 1up Left for Dead.

I think all of those things would land Resistance 3 a bunch of 10/10 if you care about review scores, but more importantly it would make Resistance 3 stand out from all the other shooters, since it offers so much more (The Orange Box being the only other game that compares)

@BlastMaster: Yes, you should DEFENITELY ignore to purchase KZ3. You should stick to your World at Wars and Moder Warfares etc. In fact, you should sell your PS3 (assuming if you have one) and stick to Xbox360! Really, the most pathetic gamers that I see are the ones that expect a new IP to do exactly what has already been done in other IPs made by other developers and who are too afraid or ignorant to try out new controls, methods, gameplay etc. They just want the same sh*t over and over again.

1.15 - Keep the weighty feel
but give others the option to control the game with the High Precision aka COD4 controls.

Anyone else notice how Sony doesn't really include this game in any of it's marketing? I still see LBP in a commercial here and there but I don't see Killzone 2 in there. I would think this game should get a little bit of marketing now that the PS3 is more price friendly.

Ditto on the K2 controls. Some people confuse the "weight", which was awesome, to the input lag, which was not. EVERY game has some amount of input lag (milliseconds between control input and on screen reaction), but K2's felt excessive. Some people don't notice it, but people who have been playing FPS's for years tend to. Sure, once you get good you can anticipate it, but I guarantee that it was not an intentional "feature". Some argue it was to even out connection lag in multiplayer, which is ridiculous as it isn't remotely the same issue and impacts everyone the same regardless of their internet latency, plus it also rears its head in the campaign mode. They just need to optimize their code more, and I guaran-effing-tee you it will be gone in K3. Just watch.

On a side note, they absolutely could get K3 out this year, if they began development on it no later than early 2009. I can't even imagine how awesome it will look. I agree with the avoidance of releasing it too close to R3, though. Sony knows how to manage a pipeline.

2010 is gonna be a blast.

Wanting elimination of input lag as NOTHING to do with "give me COD movement". EVERY developer strives to minimize input lag. The "weightiness" of the game is due to speed of movement, inertia, and so forth, which is a GREAT idea. But input lag is input lag. It's two different things. No developer does it intentionally. Not even GG has explicitly claimed to have done it on purpose, likely because they don't want to be called liars when they fix it for K3. It's presence or lack thereof in K3 will tell us the truth once and for all.

@1.11:
The patch had nothing to do with the input lag issue. Again, I don't think some of you understand/have truly seen the problem and you're confusing it with something else.

Look, it's an awesome game, but c'mon, why do people feel the need to defend every effing little thing. I LOVE Demon's Souls, but the other day I noticed an issue where I could see through walls in a couple of places. I'm not about to defend it as a feature and claim that they did it because my character is supposed to have X-ray vision. Design flaws are design flaws.

...what I find funny is when a game has not so good controls in any genre you will then have people saying you are some kind of noob and not a hardcore gamer for not liking the input lag.

Also, PC FPS gamers are probably the most hard core FPS players around and every FPS game is precise as hell using the mouse so, do these claiming to be some badass hardcore gamers think that all FPS games are for noobs?

Finally, those so called hardcore gamers should lay off COD because it is a really good series. Much like you cay you can get COD 4 controls on KZ2 you CAN turn off auto aim in COD. And to close, those hating on COD are probably the type of person who jump on the "Its popular so lets bag on it" bandwagon tat you would hear back in high school whenever you had the lame group of kids that would say ahte on a band just because they are/got popular.

Like someone said, lag and ading weight are 2 diff things. Put it this way, had they made it where you hit a button and it started the animation for a movement but the animation was slowed to add weight that is one thing, but KZ2 (even with the patch) has the same speed for its animations but there is a delay from when you hit a button and the animation starts which is the problem.

I just hope split screen is added and more varied environments are added as well. The game looked great but it is easy to get a game looking great when you use brown and gray as like 80% of your colors on screen.

I also hope they kill Rico, that dude sucked ass and was annoying as hell

Yea have fun with your twitchy floaty shooters man, Killzone 2 raised the bar for shooters IMO. I can't go back to that old style of weightless aim assisted BS gameplay that every FPS before Killzone 2 had.

Now if Killzone 3 would just have some AMAZING multiplayer, we'd be all set. We all know visuals will be ridiculously awesome.

The only major dislike I have of Killzone 2: way too many annoying choke points with the online maps. I don't mind the weighty controls, but choke points make the game very frustrating and usually end up with a million grenades being thrown at these narrow corridors.

1.27 - Well, the "input lag" has been further reduced with percision aiming...
Its better when you have the "input lag" on consoles, keeps the playing field even and competitive. I play gainst my roomate(two ps3's/hdtv's)and he uses a the mouse and key. Thats a definate advantage for him while being an extremely disadvantage for me while using the Dualshock, but this is not true in KZ2 because of the "input lag". My roomate is a UNREALTOURNAMENT freak of nature, but the the input lag throws him off a bit and messes with his accuracy so the Dualshock players have a chance. We' have played COD,R1and2,R6V2,and HALO with the same setup, and i usaually get owned by the mouse and key. Im pretty sure u guys have played against people like him, if he's not in your team, it becomes a tedious game since you'll spend most of your time on the respawn screen. Consoles should keep the input lag.

They probably would because if there were other AAA games (or something to that level) were coming out Spring 2011, it would make sense for them to wait for the holiday release to attempt to steal the spotlight.

@1.22:
For the last time, the patch did NOT address the input lag issue. It simply nerfed the "feel" of the aiming. Entirely different issue.

@1.23, 1.27:
Once again, I don't think either of you know what "input lag" is. It has nothing to do with the "weighty" feel of the game, at all. Input lag is the time in every game between hitting a button and the software acknowledging the input. In most games it is so quick as to be unnoticeable. In K2, it is extremely noticeable for people with good eyes, and it occurs in both online and offline modes. It's as if they gave control input too low a priority in terms of timely processing. Every time someone claims it's not an issue, it turns out that they don't understand the problem in the first place and likely haven't even noticed it.

It has nothing to do with leveling the playing field, because it screws up everyone equally.
It has nothing to do with the "weight" built into the controls.
It has nothing to do with anything the developer intended.

It's a different issue for all of those things. And people still bring it up because other people still spread misinformation about it being "fixed".

1.31 - frosty, you've used 3 posts to rant about "input lag".
but you don't cite ONE example. i'd like to hear some detail on just what the heck your talking about. you said that if some of us don't notice it - we have bad eyesight? i was thinking those who imagine seeing it are a little psycotic and anal retentive.......seriously though, you seem very passionate about this. i love playing KZ2 but haven't felt hindered in the least. i'm 45 years old and have played MANY fps games. i don't think i'm a gaming pro, but i'm not a novice either.

i'd like to hear some of the problems you've encountered. at least give something besides the very generic "input lag". - thanks.

1.32 - The Patch was rubbish...
superficial improvement at best.

I am an experienced player of KZ2 - best class combo tactician with repair abilities - and there was only a very minor increase in reactivity. The shotgun was still laggy as hell on aiming.

KZ3 won't be out 2010 but likely 2011. GG just isn't as good and fast at developing games as ND or Insomniac.

The thing is KZ2 still needs simple improvements first:

* get rid of the spawn flare and replace with spawn zones & mini-gun Pack

* Only a tactician can wear the a mini-gun Pack which serves as a mobile spawn zone, but due to heavy armour & the gun is very slow and vulnerable to RPG and grenade attacks. Spectacular fights will prevail.

* Bring in the knife and Lightning gun and let the games evolve naturally.

* improve bot AI to the point that it is so good, ranked matches can be done with Bots. Also allow human/bot substitutions in running games.

* Add more customizaton of games/matches and characters.

* fix those fracken controls. It's a load of Bsh*t about the realistic feel. The Lag in response is ridiculous.

These are relatively easy improvements that would make KZ2 significantly better.

But a choice of just one, get rid of the spawn flare, have spawn zones in bring in a mobile minigun spawn zone. This would be a huge improvement alone.

you havent played KZ2, Precision aiming does just that , it reduces the lag a bit, not too noticeable. Try to increase all the sensitivity while playing without the precision aiming. You move your analog stick and theres a lag with the response time, yet the cursor moves fast. Turn on percision aiming and its fast yet the response time is quicker from the anlog stick to the cursor on screen. There is obviously no problem with the aiming, the problem is you, you want to twitch aim on a game that is (READ THIS>>>>>>MA DE TO BE SLOWER PACED<<<<<<. Look up stats on the KZ site. There're thousands of players who get crazy kill/ death ratios. The best i saw was 150-160 kills and "2" deaths, and the guy was owning everybody on the open field with his ISA rifle. Its just lack of skill on your part. I usaually get around 130kills/15-20 deaths. I would've played a match with you , but the copy and paste BS thats been going on tells me not to play with anyone on this site.Dont worry , even when KZ3 comes out, You'll still have COD.

Resistance 3 next year, but not KZ3. Keep in mind that Sony already has GT5, GoWIII, MAG, Heavy Rain, and other heavy hitters coming down the pipe in 2010 CONFIRMED. They will probably have some new IP, and we all know that they don't like to overshadow their own games too much (that's why KZ2's original release was delayed due to Resistance 2's release date).
