Square teases by continually pushing the rumored dates. People will think that this "official" response means Q1 2008. But it won't be released before October 2008.

Sony is in big trouble. PS3 owners will be dry for a very long time. At least they'll have Ninja Gaiden Sigma. But this year is getting stronger and stronger for the 360. There are great games that we don't talk about since there are so many. Remember Kingdom Under Fire? That's just one of many 360 exclusives that will fill in any gaps between the huge titles.

What you two gamers have said is now that FF13 won't be on PS3 until 2008 that Sony is in huge trouble? Well NGS will be out in early July with Lair out in the end of July followed by Heavenly Sword in early August. You say doom and gloom but I just can't see it. 360 will have it's share of titles also no doubt, but let's not turn FF13 news into some kind of game vs. game 360 vs PS3 flamewar.

That would be a valid comment, Truth, except that Sony is dead last in the console battle globally and desperately needs to catch up. Not to mention Sony's game division has experienced tremendous financial losses that Sony has proven it can't really absorb. Staying in third place just isn't an option. Everyone in the industry knows that Sony needs to get its big guns blazing if it's going to dig out of this hole.

And yet, 360's upcoming lineup is as big or bigger, with the massive franchise that is Halo 3 going off in September. 360 is even dominating Playstation's usual are of expertise- RPGs. Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, BioShock, and maybe even Lost Oddyssey. The wake of the missing Gran Turismo is going to be filled with Forza 2, DiRT, and maybe Project Gotham Racing 4 as well, catering to virtually every possible breed of car nut.

And Playstation's firing back with... off-beat services and platform/adventure games? Unless you're just a die-hard Sony fanatic, you have to see big problems there. The only thing PS3 is going to deliver this year that really caters to returning Sony fans is Heavenly Sword, because it's basically a new spin on the timed-sequence laden fighting game (aka: God of War). Basically no RPGs are hitting, no Metal Gear, and most everything else is multipltform- with even other former Sony exclusives (Devil May Cry) also being delayed.

PS3 needs FF13, and it needs it yesterday.

You response is very opinionated and not exactly factual. I have a few things to point out from your post that are very telling of your objective:

The key word "desperately" is really unwarrented based off the fact Sony is almost at the exact same numbers in sales they were in with both the PSone and PS2 so I highly doubt Sony is desperate especially being the PS3 isn't even at it's 1 year mark yet.

2.) "Not to mention Sony's game division has experienced tremendous financial losses that Sony has proven it can't really absorb." Do you have any crediable sources for this statement because as far as I know it's a bold lie.

Well first I would like to know of this mysterious hole some gamers seem to think Sony is in? AGAIN PS3 hasn't even been out a year, where exactly do you think that the PS3 should be in regards to sales?

You are entitled to YOUR opinion but at very least you should present your statements as such. It's a fact that MS business model is very different to Sony's. Sony has never been the company that puts it's egg in one franchise/basket. Halo 3 will be huge BUT SO WERE HALO 1 AND HALO 2, so to use that as a point to argue which company will win is useless. It's quantity of quality titles over a variety of geners that will take a company to 100 million sales my friend. Both consoles have what LOOKS to be huge lineups BUT we will have to see which titles gets the gamers attention the most.

Hmmm: Let's see Rachet and Clank: TOD, Socom, Tekken 6, Warhawk, Singstar, Eye of Judgement, Hot Shots Golf 5, Loco Roco, and Jak and Dexter: TFL. Those titles wont "caters to returning Sony fans"?

5.) "PS3 needs FF13, and it needs it yesterday" why? because you say so.... I'm curious to know if you own a PS3 based on your statements I would have to say no, and that you prefer a 360. If that is true than who are you to say what Sony needs to do especially when Square makes games according to SQUARES timetable NOT Sony's. FF13 will be out when it's ready and not a day ealier. I as a gamer accept that and welcome Square to take all the time they need to make the game as best they see fit.

calderra, here's just my opinion:
I don't think Sony actually has any competition. I think X360 and Wii are not completely *technically* next gen. Wii clearly isn't, and MS just rushed their new console before the time was right so they're stuck with a last gen format (DVD). So, basically if you're not a patient man, you should buy yourself an X360 and buy a PS3 in late2008 or 2009. Maybe MS launches a new console then, who knows.
So, my point is that Sony is not desperate and they don't need to do anything fast since they have plenty of time. And I think they WANT games to start coming out in 2008, you can see that many games are being delayed. They don't want to sell a console at such a huge loss. It's clear and everyone knows that PS3 needs a price cut, so why do you think Sony isn't listening? They launched PS3 just because MS rushed them. Thanx for that MS. We should enjoy X360 and Wii until PS3 gets serious.
Just my opinion. (that "last gen format (DVD)" wasn't X360 bashing but I was just telling the truth, just like CD wasn't an appropriate format for lastgen)

Little Big Planet, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, LAIR, Haze, Killzone 2, Singstar, Eye Toy, Home, Warhawk, Rachet and Clank....

Ok First off, HOME is not a game. It's an app inside the PS3. I get its got game appeal to a degree...but really its a social network element and not a game.

Eye Toy - Very niche gimmick ad on...just like any camera. It's not a system seller.

Haze - I have yet to still see any confirmation from Ubisoft that this is exclusive.

Singstar - God I hope Sony is not hanging their hopes on this game to drive sales. Niche game that doesnt' have wide appeal to all groups

Little Big Planet - Looks pretty enough but its one of those unknowns at this point. Could be huge...could be meh.

Heavenly Sword, LAIR - two games with the best hype and promise. But they are going to be released over the summer so some of the steam off these games will be lost most likely come holiday.

Warhawk - This game so far is all over the map. This is one of those wait for review games. Its not a system seller by any stretch

Rachet and Clank - solid great games in the past. definitely has a following and should sway a few, but not sure its a system seller.

Uncharted - This game could be the sleeper hit, the game that rises to the top and gets Sony on the map. But its too early to tell.

Killzone2 - Ummm....well unless Sony cranks up the hype machine soon on this one I wouldn't expect it around the holidays or if it does come then I wouldn't expect much from it. For as big a game as this one is to Sony I am very concerned over the flat out lack of information and hype around this game.

So in terms of the 2007 holiday...its not exactly earth trembling stuff on the horizon....and that is not what Sony needs right now. Sony needs a home run title!

I've only seen mixed reviews about lair and heavenly sword, that's not something to be extremely glad about. I would wait and see because as of right now I don't see the games selling as well as people think they will.

Man, Ratchet and Clank IS a system seller! I have a friend (32) who is waiting for R&C to purchase a PS3. He has played all the previous R&Cs for many times and he's a total R&C fanatic. No other game really interests him that much (maybe God of War). And no, R&C is not a game for children only, it has some sophisticated humour that only grown-ups can understand. he's pretty rich and could buy a PS3 anytime he wishes but he's just waiting for R&C as I said. Not only shooters are system sellers. They might be for you, but not for everyone. My friend actually hates FPS.

For me though, Drake is definitely a system seller.

I dont want to turn this into a 360 vs PS3 flame war. I only want to comment on one thing you said "Also can u tell me wat does XBox have to offer for 2008" You question actually sums up what a lot of us are saying. With the 360 we are not looking forward to 2008, we are looking at 2007. I have ZERO doubt that MS will have lots to offer in 2008 but their strategy is to highlight games coming in 2007 and not pin the hopes and resons to buy their console on games coming in 2008.

I can now safely wait for 2008 to buy a PS3 as there is really no reason for me to need one this year.
