Half Life 2 Delayed for PS3 till 2008?

In a recent preview on IGN they stated the game to be shipping for the PC and 360 come early fall but the PS3 version would be delayed possibily to 2008.

Could this again be the effect of the 360's devlopment kit which makes porting PC to 360 or 360 to PC games quick and painless.

It's going to be exactly the same as the X360 and PC versions. No graphical updates! Read it first before making silly comments like that!!

It sucks ass though for PS3 owners. Why do ports like HL2, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell etc take soo long to get to the PS3 compared to the 360??

That's why I'm sticking with my X360 at the moment and holding back on the PS3 until the must have titles arrive like MGS4, Lair, Heavenly Sword etc!

why dont they make it for the ps3 first since it much more easier to port the 360..they should just take advantage of the ps3 hardware..but it seem like they are bein careful since the ps3 install base isnt that big YET..It seem like devlopers it takin the easy way out and workin with the 360..

7.1 - It's because of the XNA Toolkit.

Microsoft knew EXACTLY what they were doing when they developed the XNA Toolkit for game developers. It allows simultaneous development for both the 360 and pc. Smart, very smart!

You know the game was a PC game first and foremost and the consoles were something they added when they started making episode 2. So since PC to 360 is stupid easy it makes sence the two would be done first, since Valve is a PC devloper first.

9 - Get used to it....

This is something that we can plan on seeing more of in the future. Microsoft has the clear advantage when it comes to games that will also be featured on the PC. Developers would rather hit two markets (PC & Xbox360) at one time than just the single PS3 market. SO they begin developing for maximum exposure and worry about the platform with the smaller installed base second. It also helps that Microsoft knows the Windows architecture and the XBOX360 platform to make PC/360 titles easy to port between the two platforms.

10 - Look, fanboyism aside...

Almost every single developer (even the pro Sony ones) has said that the PS3 is far more complicated to develop for. This costs developers money and unless the PS3 sells really well, it's even less incentive for them to put the extra effort into making titles for it.

I'm not being anti-Sony, just pointing out the obvious. Sony made a decision to make the PS3's architecture non-familiar and for now they're going to have to pay for that in bad ports and delayed titles.

I hope for their sake that they nail the dev kits down soon!

No it's not like a reg PC.

It's more like an older Mac with 3 PPC processors. Anyone with a Mac knows it takes a long time to convert from PC to the Mac ver.

So don't think it's as simple as flipping a switch. I'm willing to bet the conversion takes about 3-6 months to do.

Anyone thinking that the PS3 is not a computer needs a head exam! Hell even Sony said it's a computer when they filed for computer status in Europe to avoid taxation.

It's a computer. Sure you might equate it more to an Apple computer than a standard PC ...but its a computer. Oh and if you do that comparison you might as well compare the number of games available to an Apple Mac compared to PC. Similarities are abound!

GTA4 thats about all you lemmings will have in 2007 to look forward to, UNFORTUNATELY its not exclusive, and WILL sell better on the Xbox360. Most likely it will also LOOK BETTER on the 360.
