Eight Days and The Getaway 3 are not dropped

During an interview with a french media, a member of Sony London talks about the games Eight Days and TG3. The two aren't dead but in stand-by. Good news it seems that they are 50% over

When i read the initial report on these 2 games it clearly stated that they where being put on hold no being canceled. The cancellation of these games was pure media speculation. Anyways i am glad that they are both back on track and they will both be day 1 buys for me.

Very happy both games are not canceled. Eight Days' tech demo showed one of the most impressive cover systems I've ever seen. Also, I'm a big fan of The Getaway series, so this is great news. I still have both the PS2 Getaway titles in my collection.

The media wanted to pretend they were dropped so they could get back to making "PS3 has no games" articles!

Well people do have to understand, Sony HAVE to think years ahead especially how they keep claiming 10 year lifecycles. And it shows. Come on, do peoeple really think that Sony will just sit around and scratch their chests like Nintendo does? No. They HAVE to keep pumping out exclusives to keep people interested.

So hopefully the Getaway and Eight Days will eventually come to fruition.

It's interesting how if something got pushed back or on hold its automatically put into "Vaporware" even if the company keeps the comments to 0. It's to the point where unless someone says yes/no people will believe rumours over common sense.

Those games better be worth the wait...

But I remember The Getaway it was the first PS2 game I remember that threw the F bomb (boy I was shocked but happy).

yeah I remember those days very clearly, it was mainly the 360 fanboys on here that went into a circle jerk because their mantra at the time was that the PS3 was a "dying system" to which Sony was only "months away" from pulling the plug on.

silly wabbits ignorance is for fanboys.

There could be head tracking for the cover system in 8 days, where the player could move their head to see around walls and stuff.

Is it me or does the prototype gameplay of this game look like the trailer shown way back in 06?

Seriously! the gameplay graphics and that trailer shown seem to have the exact same graphics which gives me this funny feeling that what we all saw back in 06 was all real-time.

If it was then WOW GO PS3!

You don't think they released that now did you, I believe if it's being worked on it'll look much better when it actually comes out, that is of course referring to the second vid not the first, if they do indeed manage to replicate those kinds of situations in game then I'm very excited, very excited indeed.

When these games were announced, Sony London were under pressure to get Home up and running. Now Home is running and is being updated regularly and EyePet is closing up, they're in need of a new, full time, project.

Eight Days first, I hope.

doubtful... they'll probably just make another casual title or app, it's what they do.. it's why Eight Days and Getway 3 were halted/cancelled whatever, SCE London are casual game specialists.. nothing wrong with that, they're good at what they do

that said, this news is (if true) promising and hopefully SCE London does decide to stray from their norm just one more time and finish up Eight Days

SCE London is a big studio (Sony's largest I think), so I'm sure they can have small teams handling singstar etc., a team for Home and another team working on a major project. The reason why these games were halted in the first place was because Sony wanted to move some staff over the help out Guerilla with their engine. Now it's completed, I wouldn't be surprised if that engine powered these games.

8 - Sorry to say, but so what.
The Getaway was a mediocre title to begin with (Black Sunday anyone) and Uncharted has gone above and beyond what 8 Days may have done. If these games are still in development, I really don't think they'll have the same impact as they may have had when they were first announced.

You could say that, but then I could say that the technology that Naughty Dog is pushing in Uncharted 2 might be used for The Getaway 3 and 8 Days. If the games were not put on hold back in 2006, then they probably would not have had as much potential to be awesome, but now that Sony London has the time to take on these projects, they can implement the tech that the ICE team has been working on for the PS3, and make the games a visually stunning, awesome experience.

That's the beauty of Sony first party teams. Even though Uncharted 2 looks great, I bet some other developer from Sony will find a way to make a better experience. Naughty Dog shared their game coding techniques with all the first party devs for Sony. What makes you think that The Getaway won't have anything from it?

If you guys ever watched the Eight Days footage, and the animations video, you can see that the cover-based animations look second to none. They even outdid Uncharted by the looks of it.

Here's a simple question, but it's kind of been siting on my brain since I saw the videos.. Since Gears is often seen as the cover system pioneer of the current gen, does anyone know if the Eight Days stuff was done before Gears? Like I'm pretty sure that cg demo they showed years back was out before Gears was out, but I'm not too sure about the animation reel that was released afterward.

By the looks of it, Eight Days and Uncharted would have been in direct competition with each other due to gameplay similarities. My theory is that Uncharted was to be completed first, and then established as a flagship IP for the PS3. I think that's why they held back Eight Days, to focus on variety first. Hopefully a game will rise from that reel I watched, it was absolutely gorgeous. I think they'll give Uncharted a break, and ND will do a Jak game or something while Eight Days drops (Here's hoping). The MP in U2 should hold people's attention for a while.

10.1 - Gears IS NOT the cover system pioneer.
I just have to say gears did not "pioneer" a stop and pop gameplay mechanic. Winback was a very archaic first attempt and it was truly refined by Kill.switch. All Gears did was made it famous by adding copious amounts of blood and a chainsaw.

Ohh.. I KNOW about Winback and Kill.switch (try explaining that to rabid Gears fans, they'll never listen when you say those two names). I did say "current gen" as well, but yeah. It didn't invent cover-based gameplay by any means. I just meant like for this gen, was cover-based gameplay THIS awesome before Gears was introduced?

10.3 - you
have a point there, naughty dog for as much as i like uncharted has to go back and do a jak n daxter game, ps3 even though has lots of variety, needs more because that's how i like it.

i want getaway 3, this has always been sony's GTA the only difference has been obviously the getaway had a more story driven, and a bit of realism than gta did, which is why gta has been bigger in many areas.

now with new hardware i believe the playing field could be level if not overtaken.

heck the first getaway was a favorite. in my opinion they should bring this back.

thinking about all this, Sony has so many franchises it isn't even funny when you sit back and think about it, plus they are always creating new ones.

who would have thunk i would like infamous as much as i do now?

if they were to by a major 3rd party publisher today i think the competition would be sh!tting themselves now.

syphon filter
the legend of dragoon
wild arms
twisted metal
omega boost
sly
jak n daxter
rogue galaxy
dark cloud
jet moto
cool boarders

and so many more....

Dude I'd kill for a new Twisted Metal game, or a new Coolboarders. As long as it was as close to Coolboarders 2 as possible. I wasn't really feeling the other coolboarders games after 2.

Legend of Dragoon's gonna get a remake petition, you watch. Timing-based RPG combat, with more smoother battle transitions would be oh so silly. My heart would explode from excitement. Simple.

Oh, ok. I was just thrown off by the numerous statements from Sony that they had canceled production of these two titles. :/

8 days looks great. And the Getaway 3 looked good too, but reviews of the first two Getaways indicated, at least for me, that it's not a AAA title.

13 - The getaway and Black sunday rocked apparently.
Given my disagrees these games were better than I remember and 8 Days really has a shot at being the better game when compared to uncharted 2. I guess a few cg movies and tech work that doesn't involve anything else that makes a game goes along way.

The original was a breath of fresh air, and hard as a motherf**ker (I found). It lacked a bit of the fun GTA style antics, but was really enjoyable in its own right. It was also one of the first games I ever heard the F-word freely used within a console game.

Great news because I really liked what I saw of Eight Days. It looked like to me it could have been a really fun split-screen co-op game. So I am happy to hear Eight Days will still see the light of day. Either the game is a late 2010 game or early 2011. So I can't wait to play the game with a buddy.

But all this really just seems to be a bit of a circle jerk, insofar as these two games would just be another two games to add to the the PS3's already impressive line-up of exclusive games. I guess the possibility of quality or lack thereof is totally irrelevant.
