"Sony's HD development hype was right"

Game and CGI production studio Digi-Guys has challenged the belief that the PS3's graphical power is hampered by its complexity.

Developers have in the past spoken out against the PS3's sophisticated hardware. In 2007 Gabe Newell said that Sony's flagship console was "a total disaster" due to the barriers involved in developing games for it.

I'm sure it's different for all developers. Needless to say, the proof is in the pudding with Guerilla and Naughty Dog. We haven't seen much of War Devil, so we'll see if Digi-Guys can join those other companies.

Well put up Digi guys, I've been one of the few people interested in this game since day one, and it's been a loooooooooooooong ride, so show it in October and blow us away or, because if Wardevil doesn't blow everyone away then it's going to flop instantly. And I'm hoping you put up.

Well, I really have no idea any more about this particular game. I've searched and searched, found people who applied for jobs after being asked to that never got a reply from Digiguys and here they are saying that not only is the game being made on PS3 BUT it's still going to run at 1080p and at 60fps as a multi?

It's all well and good them saying all this but what have we ever seen? A few CGI's and that's it and they first announced this at E3 2006 and showed it a year later didn't they?

Look, I've been as eager for this game as anyone(do NOT like the helmet and eyes of the lead char these days-looks sh1t to me after how it was)but I just can't believe a fekkin word they say anymore-I've wasted too much time already so if it does turn out amazing it's a bonus for me. No more chasing this one I'm afraid.

Is it going to run that way on the 360 as well?

I've heard of WarDevil but when will it be released?

2.1 - I couldn't agree more . .
Ken is the reason why the PS3 is what it is today. Without him, I doubt the PS3 would have had the technological edge that it does over the other consoles. The original 60gb PS3 is a testament of his powerful mind. The CELL processor is a testament of his power mind (along with Toshiba and IBM). I sincerely hope they consult him while making the next console.

Yeah, if i could have anything. I'd want a Guyver Unit. I'll have the best of everything. The Guyver makes the host immortal, powerful, indestructible, flight, breath anywhere, doesnt need to eat, etc.

Wolverine has nothing against a Guyver.

Also, the funny thing is that Archanfel is not in his full power. He got messed up by the Creators and took severe damage when he protected Earth from the Creators.

HAHAHA! We'll go off topic if i keep on writing about my amazement about Guyvers.

Anyway, Wardevil... uhh... it's a game.

"Also, the funny thing is that Archanfel is not in his full power. He got messed up by the Creators and took severe damage when he protected Earth from the Creators. "

Do you think Archanfel is the strongest ? I have a feeling he didn't get to show his full power at the end of the series.

And back on Topic . . . Wardevil has to be the biggest Hoax in the history of video games. I cannot believe people are actually still listening to these developers that im pretty sure do not exist. Comments coming from them are probably from a dictionary/sentence construction bot on a remote computer that churns our Wardevil related sentences at quarterly intervals.

Initially when this game was revealed (in the Triassic Era), It got my interest, but after the evolution of man, and many other species, it is hard to even pay attention to anything WarDevil related.

DIGI-GUYS should stop talking about technology they cannot use. The probably do not even Have PS3 dev kits. We want to see in game footage before we believe any more of these techno talk. If your game cannot match the monstrous graphical quality of UNCHARTED, then switch of that remote computer and pick up fishing as a hobby.

Archanfel is the strongest without any question. He is teh original Zoalord and all the other Zoalords crystal were formed from fragments of him - therefore the power of any other Zoalord is a mere fraction of his.

He also destroyed a meteorite the size of mars which makes him a bit of a Johnny Concrete in my book.

Gotta love the Guyver

What does he mean "it comes together better on PS3?" Is he saying (as no developer ever does) that the two version are NOT equal? Is the 360 version native 1080p at 60fps also, or is it not? Anyway, it sounds like this game will be a nice graphical powerhouse to show off my 1080p TV. But it better have fun gameplay to go along with it.

So it's pretty much confirmed that its a multi platformed game..

But to back up what the developer is saying few things have to be seen

1. multi discs on the 360 version
2. cancelling of the 360 version due to it not being able to keep up
3. a downgraded version of the game
4. better frame rates on the ps3 version or higher visual quality (1080p on ps3/720p on 360)
5. the same game using a different engine on the 360 version

I'm not saying all of this needs to happen but develoeprs need to back up what they are saying.. games have to prove what they say..

for instance, valve and other companies are full of crap.. when you look at killzone and uncharted the ps3 is a very capable machine

but when you say a game can only run on the ps3 you have to prove it.. and saying the game is LEAD on PS3 isn't proof enough, i like it, it means the game may run really well on the ps3, but i have to see a real difference in the 360 and ps3 versions to believe what developers say

Saying lead on the PS3 doesn't say jack, because we all remember what happened to Ghostbuster when it supposedly was lead on the PS3 and ended up being inferior to the 360 version!

1080p at 60fps sounds great. Now show me the video! Otherwise it is just a claim without any merit.

6.2 - Yeah. Ghostbusters ended up a good game on both platforms.
And then a patch was released which tweaked the PS3 versions graphics.

IGN said "I'll save you the suspense and tell you both versions are getting the same score for graphics because the overall package is solid on each platform."

So Ghostbusters. Solid game, developed on the PS3. What's your point?

that is pretty much what i'm saying, i want to see proof. i like hearing psopel say positive things about the ps3 but they still need to prove it.

with games leading on the ps3 they should look like uncharted/killzone 2 etc on the ps3 version..

I believe some developers are leading with the ps3 just to ensure that it does not suck on the ps3. which ghostbusters succeeded in. outside of some graphical issues, it played better than many multi platform games on the ps3..

I think companies need to work on different engines etc for thesame game..

and the solution to those that say that costs to much money and time.. look at all these games coming out.. do we really need that many games? there is no reason why a publisher can't combine funding and developers to work on one project for one game for two consoles.

Looks to me they are pre-backing their textures before those hit the GPU. We've heard that before, especially in the context of Cell/SPUs helping out the GPU. I am curious, if this is a cross platform engine, how that runs on the 360. We'll find out soon - if this time we'll see some evidence that this game actually exists.

It's funny that you as a PS3 fan is protecting Ghostbuster debacle which in turn is only hurting your very own platform.

It is pretty damn clear that Ghostbuster had a much lower resolution and lower quality textures on the PS3 than on the 360 version despite PS3 being the lead console. Clearly the same experience isn't on both platforms, not even close. Of course now that we talk about multi-platform graphics don't matter anymore.

In response to your comment about the patch:

"Ghostbusters PS3 patch doesn't deliver 720p "
http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News...

Here are some more information that you clearly posted in:

"Ghostbusters: PS3 is 3/4 resolution of Xbox 360 version"

"PS3 Ghostbusters is 56% Xbox resolution, not 75%"

It WAS complex and WAS hard to develop games for, but lo and behold at the games coming out once the devs LEARNED how to make it work. Wasnt this also the case for the PS2 when it came out and God after 3 years they put out amazing games that i loved, same thing happening again.

Edit: Gabe Newell is still a fat and lazy.

hmm just a thought, he just said lead platform, could that mean they will port from PS3 to PC?

We assume it's PS3 and 360..

I only ask cause the comment is still a bit vague.. also the comments made you would assume he has experience with the 360 so he has developers kit.. even though the game was originally running in early stages on the original xbox..

This is true, being the lead console on a game does not mean anything. It's up to the devs and how they code that makes a well developed game. I think Wolfenstine is a great example. Pretty much lead on the 360 from what I understand but it seems to run best on the PS3, with no frame rate issues or screen tearing where on the 360 there are some frame drops, less particle effects and screen tearing and the game just seems to have a smoother flow. They just nailed with Wolfenstine.

12 - you know, all we hear about wardevil is that it exist but really no one outside digi guys have seen this game
untill i see the actually game at e3 in playable form this is nothing but vaporware... they've been saying we'll "see the game soon" since late 2007, since then, They've put it on the back burner to make a CGI movie, a comic posters and and we've all seen that, where the heck is the game.. i need the proof, not words, you claim you can develop on the PS3.. It shouldn't take you all of 4 years to show your product. even games with the super long dev cycles show themself at 1 or 2 years into development at some conference.. I have a feeling this game will be the biggest piece of vaporware for the PS3... and it's a shame because i at one point honestly was looking forward to this game, every time they came out and said it'll blow us away when we see it... put up or shut up. you say ignition entertainment is the publisher, why are they keeping this game under such tight wraps, you mean since the tech demo vid of the engine shown at e3 2005 they still after 4 years have not one ingame screen shoot or video running on the PS3, or the PC...? you gotta be kidding me.. show me or go home, naughty dog and GG did it in less time, and square and Kojima did it...

13 - If this is a multiplat title
Then they could be the first devs to break the "equal between platform" rule so many multi-platforms are striving to achieve.

1080p native on the PS3 and 720p native on the 360 for the other. Or the game may look better on the PS3 than on the 360.

LOL that doesnt even make sense, 1k textures?
He's talking about 1024x1024, however they are talking about packing all the data into those textures, even at 128bpp, with all the texture data packed into the format (as they are referirng to), the final fidelity isnt going to be 1024x1024.

What Digi Guys are actually saying is, "due to the texture bandiwdth limtiaitons, we arent using muliplte texture slots, but one texture slot with all the data packed in."

It's a novel way to get round the RSX restricitons, and might just let them hit that 1080p@60fps, however whenever you pack so much data in to one texture, compression usually cuases some sort of issues.

We will wait and see.

I meant to say 1024 and 2048, lol.

Also:

"The project uses a unique pre-calculated texture system, which Whitehurst says “gives us the ability to have an enormous amount of textures on-screen, at a fidelity we can use in 35mm or 65mm formats without altering them.” "

So you're saying that even though the devs say they have film-grade textures currently in place using the system they've made, while running at 1080p60, that we're going to have to "wait and see" ?

It seems you're just trying to take the positives they just mentioned and somehow make it a negative statement about the PS3.

"WarDevil utilizes the PS3’s texture bandwidth"

Utilize (verb) - turn to profitable account

How can you take a statement that states they are using the PS3's ability for a benefit in game design, and twist it around and make it seem like they're actually saying they're restricted by it?

If it produces better-looking results, I'm all for it, even though it may not be conventional or "normal" or seen as a limitation by people like you.

1/ The PS3 doesnt have texture badnwidth, it's severally bandiwdth limited. That why KZ2 uses deffered rendering, and this is a similar method, this is what they are doing to get around it. Its the key to making any PS3 game look fantastic, and why most early multplatforms suffered. Just cause it can handle 8 texture slots, doesnt mean you shouldnt necessarily use them.

2/ He can PR talk all he likes, but we have never seen anything from them so its hard to even suggets what hes refering to 35mm grade. At 2048 by 2048 thats twice as high as the scren res (horizontal), why would you do that?

3/2048x2048@128bpp is 64mb of ram, or 1/4 of what the PS3 has for texture memory. He coudl have 3 textures on screen and a frame buffer!

Cool, but bland. Film grade textures just doesnt work for the shear amount of memory these consoles have, it just doesn twork.

Even at 32bpp (standard texture) a 204x2048 is 16mb.
How he packs normal albedo, gloss, alpha in to all of that without suffering? You cant.

Precomputered may mean pre-rendered at the rate this guy is talking.

Its going to be interesting as hell to see what they do, given they are CG experts not realtime 3d rendering experts.

I dont expect this to be a terribly dynamicly lit game. But we shall see. I will imagine it will look fantastic, but I dont expect it to be a dynamic camera or anything.

Fixed point of view perhaps.

More clarification is needed on the differences between the 360 and the PS3 version. We've seen many developers claim that one platform is "better" than the other, but more often than not the differences seem to end up being minimal, at least on multiplatform games.
Yes, we could argue exclusives until the cows come home, but as this is a multiplatform game, it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

Looking at his comments, I think you could take a wild stab and suggest that..

PS3 verison will hit 1080p
360 verison's will have slightly less texture compresison (higher fidelity).
360 verison will have slightly better filtering.

But meh, who knows, I don tknow why they would both with Pre-computed stuff on the 360 if they arent going for 1080p. It can handle the bandwidth easily.
