Shenmue 3 is now a possibility

The main problem is: current generation of gamers barely knew about this masterpiece. Also, why would Sega consider releasing shenmue 3 for gamers who hadn't played the previous games in the series? Marketing and sales wise, it doesn't make sense for them. But now everything could change.

if it came to either one i would get it. i have the original for the US dc as well as imported the EU part 2 and have the US part 2 for xbox. A part 3 is needed...badly! No matter the system I will be picking it up. Please SEGA!!!

PS3 exclusive with every single piece of ShenMue from 1-3 on 1 BluRay disc that'd be my dream.

A multiplatform release is a must though. The demand is there, the technology has advanced, many other games have made money back on greater budgets.

They can do it but Sega aren't a big budget developer. At their heart they are still an arcade game developer going back to their biggest commercial failure would be a big ask.

This and FF7 (remade) would break records if ever realised.

6 - Shenmue seems like such an acquired taste
I just don't know how well it would do outside of its niche fanbase. They really need to try to finish the series up though. Some changes here and there, and I think they could at least make a great game, despite how much it sells.

shemnue has got to be one of the best games i have ever played.
For people who have never played the series, you really are missing out on something epic. Interact with just about anything, you can even get a job in the game, and as much as i hate working i loved working in my virtual job lol.

I can't speak for all xbox owners but the only reason I bought the original xbox was because I learned that shenmue 2 was coming to the xbox and at the time I didn't have the resources to import the EU version for the dreamcast.

With that being said I know a good percentage of xbox and xbox 360 owners who bought the console were at one time Sega Fanboys I admit I was one. I very seldom play my 360 now as I've reverted back to my pc and the ps3 is my secondary console, but if shenmue 3 or shenmue 1 and 2 remasted in HD ever came to psn or xbl, even re-released at retail ala God of War Sega would have a million seller on it's hand in no time.

Why on earth would you want a Shenmue 3 without Yu Suzuki? That man had a dream that Sega just won't let him live it out with his recent demotion and all it's highly unlikely they would let him make a third game or one with a decent budget.

Seriously, how many game developers would painstakingly program the ability to open every single cupboard, door, etc in a game? These are minor things of course but they are what made Shenmue and Shenmue II the great games that they were.

Besides, Sega already said publicly that they wanted to shift their focus towards the Yakuza franchise and making its creator the "Kojima of Sega"... =/
