The Past, Present and Future of Gran Turismo

YourEMGN Writes: "Gran Turismo - The Real Driving Simulator, like all things, started off small. First released in 1997 by the well known Polyphony Digital. Gran Turismo 1 quickly became a huge hit with 178 cars and outstanding gameplay. Since the release of GT1, the series has sold over 50 million games to the Playstation 1, Playstation 2 and Playstation 3. The near future sees the release of the very highly anticipated - Gran Turismo 5."

Pholyphony will definitely release GT6 and 7. Most likely for the PS4.

Yeah, it's better when they take 4 - 5 years to produce the games. The quality of it is way higher.

2.3 - Its possible.
Definitely if its for the PS4.

But if GT6 is released at the end of the PS3 lifecycle, it could get real close to that. They could possibly find other less hardware intensive ways to implement the same kind of effects seen in that video.

Especially since the Cell Processor is so unique, I wouldn't be surprised if developers keep learning new ways to implement things on the Cell even after PS4's release.

4 - i know i may be a fanboy
i don't try to sound like one, but polyphony is one of my favorite developers. i really hope they grow old with me, and that the future just keeps raising the bar. no disrespect to all the F3 fans but i just grew old, with PD like GoW, MGS and team ICO so i hope they stick with me. Seriusly i really hope you all get to play some of the games i fell in love with because, then you will see there is no fanboys just gamers.i do play all consoles and some PC but just recognice what is good and great for the industry of gaming.

edit: i know my english sucks forgive me...

I like the way how you start your comment explaining you are a fanboy then go on to give a completely un-fanboyish comment. Kudos.

5 - PD are great....
PD are superb, their attention to detail astounds me every time. However I have a couple of tiny gripes with the franchise thus far, the first being the lack of SKID MARKS.

I have a feeling I'm going to fire up GT5 on launch day, enter my first race only to find that yet again, my car leaves no rubber behind on the track. This pisses me off, because 9 years ago, playing Driver on the PS1, the car left skid marks.

The other thing is the engine noises. I don't care how much PD manage to match the engine tone of each car, the fact is the cars still sound crap.

I feel as though I'm almost blaspheming against one of the greatest video game franchises there are, well I am - but if PD want to maintain their king-like position in racing games then these things HAVE to be sorted out.

"I don't care how much PD manage to match the engine tone of each car, the fact is the cars still sound crap."

Thats a contradiction in every sense, if you know that they map every engine sound digitally i might add. Yet you feel the engine sounds like crap then maybe the problem is you and what you feel they should sound like as opposed to what they actually do sound like. So basically they don't sound like you think they should but because they are mapped they actually sound authentic.

I agree with you on the skid mark thing it's annoying that and the fact that none of the cars have a reverse light. Don't know if anyone has ever noticed that but am a GT freak and the lack of a reverse light is like a strand of hair caught in my eye.

Where is it PD? GT isnt the only game PD created, Omega Boost was a mix between Armored Core & Colony Wars...
