judging by the graphics, gameplay and charecter movements. im guessing 8 days was a good alternitive to uncharted that they were going to do also but decided that uncharted was enough for now.

Thats what i think as well. When i first saw the footage it i imidiately thought of Uncharted. People said it was impossible but to me it looked like ucharted to me except its a crime/cops game from what i seen.

I'd go as far as to say that some of the new animations from U2 look very similar to those in the 8days reels. I'm certain, however, that if they aren't gonna revive the game that they've reused the tech/stuff elsewhere within the first/second party studios.

yea i'd say that uncharted and 8 days were the two closest to their idea. they were also so diffetent from eachother that they though they could of used both of them but had to choose between one considering their budget. so they dumped all the money twards uncharted and made it what it is today.

just my theory on things...

For us hardcore there is no question we would have bought both but to others it would have been a question mark which to buy.

Are you watching this Sony? This game WANTS to be developed!

1.9 - It's probably not scrapped; remember what happened?
Eight Days was one of two games scrapped, and it wasn't because of that eyePet either:

1. Eight Days was supposed to be a game with around five to eight real big cities in the game (like Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, etc)which was supposed to be realistically rendered; that in and of itself would take a long time do finish. Furthermore (Fuzzy on this point) the engine for Eight Days was supposed to support the ability to go inside virtually any building, like that grocery store in the link's photos, or the restaurant in the demo. Plus the city was supposed to have people in it, like a real city is supposed to, not barely inhabited for a city it's size like GTA IV was.

2. The graphics were to have neigh-realistic lighting, destructibility, and effects not yet perfected at the time of the Eight Days demo (like the fireball explosion from the Eight Days demo)

Only TWO games that were on Sony's Roster from SCEE could do one or the other but not both: Killzone 2 and The Getaway. Now, you would need the abilities of both Killzone 2 and The Getaway combined to get the realism and size of Eight Days, given the fire effects and explosions of Killzone 2 plus the cityscape of The Getaway.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Most likely they pulled their sources from The Getaway to work on other aspects of Eight Days while the effects and lighting was perfected in the Killzone 2 engine.

Just a guess, though.

Besides: anyone ELSE notice that around 2:30 the music from Killzone 2's desert scene was playing in the background of this clip that was posted in the open zone?

People shouldn't bash Eye Pet because of this though. And there isn't any concrete proof that Eye Pet was the cause of the cancellation.

Watching the video 360RRODFIX just posted in the Open Zone, around 5 minutes in he enters a car/truck wash. While that is old footage, it does look like the same car/truck wash shown in the image (in the article), but with much less detail and polish. Perhaps work is, or did, continue on further than I originally thought.

2.1 - Yeah that video shows that this game had too much promise to just cancel.
Sony said that they canceled the games because they basically had too many titles for 2009/2010, but what if the projects were just put on hold for a later date.

They could easily have remedied the no online problem by going the way of Army of Two and making it co-op based.

And those screen look much more polished then the videos. So hopefully I'm on to something.

way to go sony.. cancel the game that could have offered the best cover system in a 3rd person perspective game. for what? some weird monkey-like game -__-

don't get me wrong, Eye pet looks like a good game\concept, but I would take eight days over Eye pet any day

and the last time I read about it, it was canceled for "the lack of an online mode". which one should I believe?

before anyone jump and say "TEH UNCHARTED/GEARZ OF WARZ HAZ TEH BEST COVER SYSTEM" please go and search for the old amazing gameplay video :'(

While I agree, you do know that Eight Days was hardly even in the production?
The KZ2 director even made a comment on it saying that Eight Days and Getaway were, for SCEE, the 2 games furthest away from completion.

Sony needed to get games out at that stage. 8 days is definitely better then EyePet, but EyePEt was closer to completion... why would you shelve it?

3.2 - Sony caters for everyone
we already know this. Sony always put equal importance on every games be it hardcore or casual or niche games. Its the reason why you see LBP, RC,eye pet, TLG get the same level of attention as KZ2, Uncharted from Sony. This has always been a hallmark of the PS brand and why it has been the most successful gaming brand.

SCEE division is spearheading the casual push. They are the ones spearheading developing tech/games for casuals like Eyetoy, motion controller, home, create/play/share games. London normally produce hardcore games but i guess Sony wants them to focus on casual games/tech this gen since I.G, S.P and N.D at least are already developing hardcore games this gen unlike last gen.

This game is still coming mark my words. There was too much already done that looked too promising to just throw it all away.

Think about it, if the said this game is going the be delayed two years too work on other stuff and because there are similar title coming then it would have been media suicide for the title. The stink of vapourware would never leave the project.

Say its cancelled on the other hand, create a cult or niche of gamers all wishing it never had been dropped, and then reprise it when the market is more ready, and look at all the grateul customers lining up saying, yeah I always knew 8 days would be back, it was day one from the start for me.

Remember, you heard it here.

4.2 - yeah
I sure hope you're right. "Eight Days" just amazed me with the first trailer. The cover system was sick! Driving and shooting simultaneously was sick! Graphics were also sick.

I showed the video to my friend who's an xboxer and he wanted to play it himself. He himself was fascinated by "Killing Day", an FPS x360 exclusive, but coincidentally, it was cancelled also. I admit that game looked cool too.

One of the reasons for it being cancelled was because it had no online multiplayer implemented. That's not a good enough reason for me. I mean, as long as it had a good co-op mode the game would be a winner for me.

9 - I wonder...
Whether or not Sony owns the rights to Eight Days (anymore), couldn't this IP be passed along from London Studios to say, Naughty Dog? I'm just saying, because if Sony London refuses to revive Eight Days, maybe, just maybe, ND could adopt this potential system seller or heavy hitter.

The downside is that I wouldn't want Eight Days to be an Uncharted clone. I kinda like the fluid cover system in Eight Days better than the Uncharted one. So, if Sony London can find time down the line to resurrect Eight Days that would be nice. Either that or a next-gen Pursuit Force?

9.1 - It wasn't necessarily Sony London's choice.
Shuhei Yoshida has final word being the president of Sony's Worldwide Studios. Sony London is still working on Home, and that can't be an easy project. It's could be that after Home is finally ironed out and taken out of beta that the two projects may be reevaluated.

But I highly, HIGHLY, doubt that Naughty Dog would want the project. And of course Sony still owned the IP :)

12 - 8 Days was a "hardcore" game lulz....
the graphics from the CGI trailer could have been done in reality on the PS3, but maybe the gameplay behind it was kinda shallow. SCE went in a more innovative matter then releasing a game that could have been done on any console (but may not have looked like the trailer).

I always applaud innovation over just giving gamers, guns, boobs, blood just for a quick cop out.

Like I said in the other Eight Days topic. I so hope this game rises again like a phoenix. I so think Eight Days could have been a fun
split-screen co-op game. With Eyepet coming out soon I hope development starts up again on Eight Days. Because this game looks incredible and I know I would play this game if it sees the light of day. So I hope it will.
