More Media From Canceled PS3 Game 'Eight Days' Surfaces

You may recall hearing early last year that Sony ceased development on both The Getaway and Eight Days in order to shift resources to projects closer to completion.

Shortly after some test footage of Eight Days was released by a former Sony London employee and today we've revived even more media.

after the jump you'll find a test trailer of one nasty looking crash as well as screens that reveal celebrity talent such as Ving Rhames, Gary Oldman and Dennis Hopper were involved with the title.
Updates:
A new video has just surfaced showing off even more Eight Days goodness which you can check out at http://gameparticles.com/2009/08/27/more-media-from-canceled-ps3-game-eight-days-surfaces/

It's such a shame that they canceled this game. It was so incredibly promising. Some of the test footage had some of the most amazing animation I have ever seen in a game and it was not even finished yet. The trailer after the link is also very impressive. The physics during the crash looked alot better then most games with elements like that.

Sony really should think about putting this game back into development because there is nothing but promise here.

If it's true that they canceled this just for EyePet, than I will be pissed. We all were really looking forward to this, and I hope we weren't shafted because of casual gaming

Eye Pet I thought you were a good idea at first, but now I hate you. Why did you have to take 8 Days away from me.

Seriously though I think they took the tech for this game and applied it to Uncharted I mean there are a lot of similarities. And maybe The Getaway can canned, because of Agent (which I suspect is an open world game as well). Hopefully all the stuff their showing means the game is still coming just later.

Oh the only negative is the character models, especially the guy with the blonde hair he looks like a hippy.

1.6 - They did not...
They did not cancel 8 days for Eyepet. They specifically said they canceled it to finish "other" projects. Sony London has more than one game in development, you can be sure of that.

I say this game will be a PS4 title. This and Getaway both when first presented looked too good to possibly be true for PS3. Maybe they were. Which is why they were held back a little. Either way I bet Sony is planning to set them up for some more face time with media at some point in the future.

Have you been playing any of the ps3 exclusives? How does this look too good for Ps3? Mark my word they will go back to finish up this and getaway and it will release in a year or two.

Maybe they canceled it for a good reason. Maybe they story was pretty bad and just made the game a mindless shooter like Kane and Lynch.

The destruction on that crash looked sick. If there would be structural damage like that in game I'd be all over this. Plus... Gary Oldman.

That scene looked sick! This game looked truly too good to be canceled, im sure they will bring it back in to production! Perhaps we should get a petition going to get it back into production and send it to sony!

3 - They must of had their reasons to cancel
They game wasn't shaping up so hot or something, although the CG scenes look nice, but they always do.

I don't think that was CG, I want to say that was in-game engine.

I'm reasonably sure that 99% of the footage released for the game was in engine demos which is quite impressive considering how good it looked and the game was not even close to complete.

They did have their reasons to cancel however it was not because the game was not shaping up well it was because they needed those resources elsewhere at the time to finish other games that they must have deemed more important.

3.3 - Shuhei Yoshida (President of Sony's Worldwide Studios):
"I think that we have more projects that we want to do than we do have resources. So, the cancellation of Eight Days was not necessarily because that project was failing, but because we looked at how it fit in the portfolio and where it fit as a production."

It would be a crazy-cool deal if they were just "faking" cancellation and the reason we keep getting footage every now and again is because it's still in production...

I wish, but at least Uncharted has awesome/fluid animations.

8 - i cant help
to think uncharted with pursuit force whenever i see or hear about this game no hate though,

i however would love getaway 3 to comeback, sony wants to rebrand the ps3 and make it more like ps2? well how about releasing some sequels to some of the gratest ps2 games?

i guess i cant stress this enough

syphon filter
twisted metal
sly cooper
jak n daxter
Rogue galaxy
Dark cloud
psone ips wouldnt hurt either
The legend of dragoon
wild arms
omega boost?
jet moto

there are so many more games the list is endless so ill stop short here for now. but i hope you guys would agree with me on this one.

Yep, I couldn't agree more.

I really do love the New IP approach from Sony, but I really do hope that they go back to their back-catalog of games that were on the PS1/PS2 that have yet to hit the PS3.... there's a ton of really great franchises under Sony that really deserve to be revived.

I agree, but Sony's backlog is literally thousands of games... I'm glad we're getting new stuff, but you're right that it couldn't hurt to put out a few more sequels to some of those beloved PS2 games.

I can see why Sony canceled Eight Days... I mean, both Uncharted and Eight Days had pretty much the same type of gameplay, the only difference is that Eight Days was a little more "flashy" with special stunts and stuff.

I know many will disagree with me, but because of Uncharted, I don't think that Eight Days was even needed.....Who knows, maybe some of the assets from Eight Days can be implemented into a future Uncharted game or some other 1st party PS3 exclusive.

If there's ONE game I want Sony to revive, it's The Getaway... I bought both Getaway games on the PS2, and even though they weren't perfect, I loved em'. I was looking forward to Getaway on PS3 like crazy, and when Getaway was canceled, I was crushed.

9.1 - wow i'm really impressed
but it looks like much of the gameplay has been recycled and is re-used in Uncharted. I'm guessing that high budget was the main reason why it was put on hold, the fact that SP-centric game don't sell well doesn't help either.

*fingers crossed* Hope it gets announced next year, it'll fit nicely in between Uncharted2 & its inevitable sequel.

BWS1982 - 89 days 14 hours ago
10 - Well, maybe
just maybe, the projects were "shelved" and set on the back burner, as the reasoning as I recall was "to shift resources to projects closer to completion" which could be interpreted as an indefinite delay until further along elsewhere, not a "cancellation" but who knows, we can hope, right?

11 - These games look cool
I wouldnt doubt if sony wasnt able to afford production cost for these games and had to drop them. It makes sense since they are already losing tons of cash from ps3 hardware. And now they have to lower the cost which i think sony is currently unable to financially do so. Selling the slim ps3's at 299 is a huge loss for sony considering how much they cost to produce. It seems they had no choice but to act quickly in desperation in order to keep up with the other console's this generation, but in the end microsoft still lowered their price making a huge comeback.
Bad move by sony.

supremacy - 89 days 14 hours ago
11.1 - no not really
sony is losing money still but no more but less then they were years ago, simply because the slim is alot cheaper to build and use cheaper parts to that of older models 99 compare to 300 250 and 157 is cheap and besides this is money that they'll be making back through software sales its no biggy.

gain some market shares and recoup it through investors and games sales, its simple and its already happening.

@JohnnyHalo
LOL

look at this kids name and avatar
kid
you think Sony is a 100$ company ??
Sony got more assets than Microsoft dose
double time
that means Sony can buy not 1 but 2 Microsoft

so they can give the fat ps3 with out any cost reduction what so ever for free
and still be on business for another 100 year

and they canceled the game because
a) they got alot more games to work on + they got more games already out
b) this game got no online modes

lol @ Sony got no money

do us a favor kid
keep your "pearls of wisdom" to you
thanks

I so wish Eight Days would come back from the grave. I so would love a great Action/Adventure co-op game. From the looks and sounds of this new footage from Eight Days all I can say wow. I love the talents they had to voice the characters too. So again I hope this game comes back from the dead.

From the looks of it, shaping up quite nicely and the proof of concept really shows in that scene. A lot of action and a lot of Nissan Skyline's that where parked.

I hope it does go back into production, I like how some games are now being directed at a more adult like genre. This with Heavy Rain and I am alive could have been nice. But here is to hoping and believing.
