Beyond Good and Evil 2 is on hold

What sorry news; Beyond Good & Evil 2 is now definitely on hold.

Why oh why would Ubisoft put the sequel to Beyond Good & Evil on hold? Especially following the game's announcement and then the release of its first teaser trailer. This just sounds like a cruel joke.

New Ghost Recon is well under development. Rainbow Six is completely invisible. And BG&E deserves to come out before both of those.

Can't they put something else on hold instead? I'm sure they have plenty of games I have no intention of buying that they can hold. I Am Alive is a good one; delay that and work on BG&E2.

I'm a huge fan of the first game, but what you just said is kind of ridiculous. Because you're not planning on buying a specific game they should put them on hold so you can get BG&E 2?

May be they've put it on hold because it's low priority considering all of 3 people bought the first one.

5 - Ubi rather push other games like:
Ghost recon and AC2. BG&E2 would have been great like the 1st one but, Ubi wants guaranteed money.

Rabbids go Home for the Wii and DS I think which actually looks good. Not as good as BG&E2 though.

This news sucks ... if BG&E2 is on hold ...what is he doing ? He better have a good idea to let this IP down like this ...

that really sucks... Ubi keeps saying they want to make quality games, and they cancel / put on hold the sequel to this gem ? Only Michel Ancel can be more pissed than I am right now about this.

I'm not buying any Ubi game anymore, I'll just borrow Splinter Cell from a friend, rent it or buy it used (something I usually never do)

The reason behind that is because the first BG&E was not a real success in terms of sales. Just like Okami, despite a critical acclaim, sales were too low. Many IPs died because of the lack of sales.

Once again, Okami is a good example for what came after. On PS2, sales were not sufficient, Clover has been closed by Capcom and they decided to port it to Wii, hoping a resurrection. Okami on Wii flopped too.

With BG&E2, Ubisoft had to face a major dilemma. They know BG&E is a AAA title, but they are afraid BG&E2 flops too, and most investors hate risks, especially for a game that may be expensive to develop. By now, Ubisoft releases casual games on Wii and DS to finance hardcore games on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. So all their hardcore franchises must be successful, and if the game comes from an existing IP, they must adapt it to be wide audience friendly.

That's what happened to Rainbow Six. It used to be a very strategic game and it became a run & gun with some James Bond gadgets. If R6 stayed so much elitist, it would certainly have flopped.

With BG&E2, Ubisoft have two alternatives: either adapt the game to be more badass, more action-oriented, more spectacular, more "pop corn" to be accessible and attractive to every public, and advertise it as much as possible. But that's risky, that's costy, and investors don't like that. Either put it on hold until they see an opportunity to start the development.

This opportunity can be a game that sells very well, so it can covers a potential sales failure like BG&E2, or it can be the abort of the IP, and in this case another studio may take it to develop it on its side, like what happened with Red Dead Revolver (developed by Capcom, then aborted and taken back by Rockstar) or Brutal Legend (developed with Activision, then aborted and taken back by Electronic Arts).

13 - Ubisoft has been in a downward spiral for years now.
It was right around the time when they releases the first Splinter Cell for the 360 (then later, poorly on the PS3).

They're probably making room in the budget to push the next Splinter Cell game. Its a shame really, Beyond Good and Evil 2 could be a rebirth for Ubisoft, but instead they choose the rehash the same, tired old Splinter Cell game. Nothing is gained, for gamers, by releasing Splinter Cell for the 100th time. Sneak around in an inappropriately dimely lit hallway for about 9 hours... fantastic.

Splinter Cell is a great, successful and critically acclaimed series. Not to mention that by all accounts Conviction is going to be another success in the series. It helps if you know what you're talking about before you say something. Well, it helps you. The rest of us kind of just laugh.

This really saddens me. I still own a copy of Beyond Good & Evil for the Xbox. I so was looking forward to getting to play BG&E2. But I guess that is not going to happen now. I could only be happy with this news if this means that BG&E2 gets the time and money it needs to be an excellent game.

Plus that Rayman 4 gets to come out and Ancel work on the series again. I also would love to see Rayman 4 go back to 2D. I just hope Ancel is getting to do some thing creative and is not stuck doing some thing He does not want to do. Because He has helped make some really great games. So if He is not working on BG&E2 I hope He is working on a new IP.

BG&E was not as good as the reviewers claim. That's why sales flopped hard. In general, the game-play was highly scripted and contrived. (Like PoP). Somebody at Ubisoft grew a brain and decided to ditch a sequel.
