Is Xbox 360 trying to be more like the Wii?

Project Natal made big waves at E3, arguably more than the PS3 motion controller, soon after both press conferences announced their respective projects many debates were sparked as to which tech was the superior one. Both "controllers" are fairly different and it seems that the two are going to be targeting different markets but is this true?

I think it will work with hardcore games but I don't expect hack journalists to have the imagination to see how it can be applied. What a shame we are going to have to read more of this garbage because Natal is still a ways away.

2 - Is Xbox 360 trying to be more like the Wii?
Of course they are so they could reach the casual audience. first Microsoft copied mii's and now motion control. By doing this, they're stealing the wii's momentum.

MS's goal is to grab a wide variety of gamers, so ms is trying to make 360 less associated as a console that's "only for" hardcore gamers.

i say that's good cause they're trying to embrace change, for their company and for their lineup of games.

First it was trying to be a PlayStation, now it's trying to be a wii? Next it'll be a consumers' second choice for being a "me too" console.

Meanwhile Sony gets a pass for it's XBL rips like trophies and it's Wiimotion plus knockoff of a wand.

See it goes both ways. The only company that seems to be on it's own course is Nintendo and even that is changing with their WiiHD talk.

All these companies are trying to grow their audience it's business.

To be fair, what Sony presented at e3 was more hardcore experiences with their motion controls. Something Nintendo or Microsoft aren't focusing on, unless you think playing Burnout without a controller is fun.

And achievements have been around before xbox.

To be fair what Sony showed with the wand was nothing spectacular compared to what MS showed with Natal.

theres a lot of possibility with natal but what did they show? the paint demo? ricochet? cause all that edited advertisement stuff is just that, the fact that they only got the original burnout running on natal has me thinking, what about paradise?

obviously lloyd_wonder doesn't have any place better to be then trolling in 360 articles. Considering deep down inside he is jealous obviously. And show me where achievements have been around before xbox. I mean to make a standard where the make dev's force to support achievements, i mean that has been done before. Desperation is a sad sad thing son.

Jeeze and Phantom, very true, it seems Nintendo is always the one to try new things and be more creative and whatever works best everyone else copies.(Especialy Microsft!!) You all know its true, try to put your fanboyism aside and admit it.

9 - They are both trying to grab a piece of Wii
What is shown at E3 does not show the limitations of either device. These will both be used for what ever developers decide they can use them for. MS said natal can be controlled using you fingers or your entire body. PS3 wand is supposed to be more accurate than the Wii's. We have to see how the developers choose to use them. The article was poorly conceived.

10 - Fail
I think Natal is cool but 360 is trying to much to be a Wii/Family System and if they want to be a family system....they got to drop their M rated titles (Halo, Gears, DOA, CrackDown and many more) if they do that then the 360 might not do so well. What I mean is hardcore gamers an not going to play it if it doesn't have games they like and that means Sony or PC will start having those games.

13 - ps3 wants to be like wii too
c'monm their ice cream cone is shaped like a bulky wiimote. Home is like miis plus (or minus depending on who you ask). Lets face it 360 and ps3 both want a piece of the pie Wii has monopolized on. Of course they are going to try and impersonate. PS3 tried impersonating them on day 1 with six axis! it's because as much as "hardcore" players whine about having to move while playing games it is going to be part of gamings evolution. Not all that much you can do about it really. Progress is inevitable.

Its funny how people think gaming was meant for the "hardcore" peeps.
All 3 are dying to go mainstream as movies are...its what they wanted from day one.

People who call themselves "hardcore" should realise that the same sh/t happened with the PS1.

Gaming was for geeks and whatever, and then came the cool kids( AKA CASUAL PEOPLES) playing GT, or any other sports game.

Ps1 did the "casual" BS on a huge scale back in that time and era, and now people are surprised that Nintendo is doing it while the PS2 did it before the Wii?
Xbox isn't trying to be like wii, its trying to go mainstream, at least more than it already is.
Sony is trying the same...( but i guess now people are calling these motion controls hardcore...LOL)

edit:
In fact Sony and MS are trying to go "casual" or better put "Mainstream" by offering all that media stuff.

And you know it.

Businesses are ruthless, look at it this way :
3 companies
1 market
1 monopoly.

They'll all branch into each others market area and do whatever it takes to make the most profit and get ahead.
