Atlus spoils "Demon's Souls", announces NA release date

Atlus U.S.A., Inc. has revealed that Demon's Souls, a groundbreaking action RPG experience for PlayStation 3, is to become the newest entry in the Atlus Spoils fan appreciation program. In addition to the standard version of the game, which now features new North-American exclusive box art, there will also be a deluxe edition. For less than it costs to import the game, fans will receive a 150+ page strategy guide (only available as part of this deluxe version, not for sale anywhere else) and a collectible outer slipcase, in addition to the game itself.

First off, here's to hoping you guys in EU get some love and get a release for this game. I know I'm definitely going to be getting it come October. This is one of the ones definitely on my list for the rest of this year (quite possibly top 5). The game looks cool. And on top of that, I'm really liking all the talk I hear about this game being like INSANELY difficult. I like the idea of that kind of challenge. Quite honestly, games of that kind of difficulty are few and far between these days.

As for the deluxe edition: I'll pass. I'm not much into the collectible stuff, and I can do without the game guide. Even if I do get so utterly frustrated that I decide to resort to a guide (which apparently is almost an inevitability with this game rather than a question of "if?"), but we just know the contents of that guide (or some walkthrough/guide) is going to be up on the internet in no time.

lol Is it f*cked up that I'm getting "giddy" at the idea of having a game being so fun and difficult that I'm angrily slamming the controller and loudly cussing the tv? Wanting it to be so hard that, in fits of rage, I consider calling/emailing Atlus just to cuss them out lol

LOL I didn't 'bash' it, I said it looks kind of bland, which after checking out some videos I had to say. You and I both know the majority of people who disagreed with me aren't the ones with a differing, intelligent opinion, they are the ones who disagree with anything that they presume is 'against' their system of choice.

I was hoping that someone would actually present some interesting videos, or offer up some evidence that the game is more compelling than what I have seen so far...Instead I get 18 disgrees with only 1 intelligent, different point of view (yourself).

I love my PS3 (from what I have played so far), but it doesn't mean I have to act like every exclusive is the second coming of Christ. :)

i thought it looked bland too at first, like any boring fantasy hack 'n slash...

but now after playing it myself for 40 hours or so, it's one of the best games this gen. you really just have to play it yourself. the graphics look better than what the videos suggest too, many little details like self-shadowing are excellently done. and the monster designs and animations are great. some of the environments too are quite impressive.

Yes, it does lack the flash of God of War, or the charm of a Final Fantasy, but that's part of its allure.

It's not a game that is meant to visually impress or make the player feel empowered. You play an ordinary man doing extraordinary feats.

It's a pure test of personal fortitude, patience and skill that in the end leaves you with a deep sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

Kratos brings down a cyclopes. Child's play. A normal man brings down a cyclops. Now THAT is an adventure.

Don't judge a book by its cover. You shouldn't watch videos of a game and come to hasty conclusions from that. OK, maybe for some games you can really tell if it's your kind of game just from watching videos, but when it comes to a deep action-RPG like Demon's Souls, a game that is quite unique in comparison to all other action games and RPG's that have come out in the past 2 generations of gaming, you can't jump to conclusions about it until you experience it for yourself. If you think you understand it just from watching a couple of videos, I can assure you that you do not. You will play this game and realize that it is so much more than you expected.

The game oozes atmosphere. It exudes depth and gets under your skin. You soon won't be able to think about anything else once you start playing it. It's not your typical action game, it's not your standard RPG, it's something new - but also, something old. It goes back to an earlier time in gaming and takes the kind of design that would have been familiar 20 years ago and recreates that with the technology of today (better graphics and sound, online functionality, more complexity in control). I bought the Asia version of Demon's Souls and put in 113 hours, earning the platinum trophy. I can assure you, this game is not "bland."

That is exactly what I wanted, an explanation of the game not just random disgrees. I'm not personally into hack'n'slash games, so the initial impressions I got from the videos, was just 'same old, same old'.

Now that I have actually had people explaining the deeper mechanics and subtle RPG elements, I'm intrigued.

I think that is what we are lacking around here, anyone who questions the 'norm' is typically disagreed with, and we don't actually get thought provoking conversation. I will point out my initial comment of 'it's bland' wasn't the most stimulating conversation starter, but it seems to have done its job in the long run.

So thanks to the people who actually took the time to respond in an intelligent manner, as I was be keeping a closer eye on this game now. :)

devs tend to make the game more difficult when they localize it for the western countries, makes you wonder if they amped it up a tad? Still torn on weather or not to get the deluxe package, the hardcore gamer in me says I don't need, but the collector in me says it would be a nice collectable. I suppose I could pick it up and not use the book and keep it mint, hmmm I think I'll do that.

Sadly, I'm thinking the same thing. I spent $135 on this game already, imported two copies, one for me and one for my friend, but I want a slipcase and maybe a strategy guide.....not that I really need one, but my New Game+ will be coming up soon and I'm already afraid...... =(

Don't worry y'all, you will all enjoy this game, even you doubters. Sure, it's made me stop playing at some points when I was greatly frustrated, but once you get it, you'll really enjoy it. I know I am. =) I haven't played in a few days, but only because I'm a human and my friend who helps me as a blue soul has been busy. I don't want to lose my body just yet. 12 - 120 plus hours

This is a must have. I imported it in February and ended up playing this more than Killzone 2. I had 120 hours logged in to beat the game, and then you can spend endless time breaking into people's games. I am going to get the deluxe version just to get the strategy guide too. PS3 owners please support this game and send the message that more games need to be released oversees. I hope EU gets this as well, but if not import the Asian version and check out the Demon's Souls Wiki. You will not regret it.

3 months is too long of a wait.. but too short to justify importing it.. man, life sucks..

i mean, what good games are out this summer? Fight Night 4, KOF, blazblue -- all fighting games.. which i lost interest in a long time ago.. for august, there's batman but that's towards the end of the month. in september, you have a couple of racing games i'll buy.. but october!?! you have ninja gaiden sigma 2, you have uncharted 2, you have R&C. then, mw2 and MAG in novemeber.. my point is, which i should have typed at the beginning, release the demon soul's now while i have the time to play a game like this.

They won't change the difficulty. They already said it's really hard in one of the videos on the playstation blog. Not to mention this is Atlus handling the NA version so I really doubt they will make the game easier (especially when they have games with hard difficulties like Trauma Center).
