Japanese FF13 Voices Completed

One of the voice actresses for Final Fantasy XIII has confirmed that recording for the game wrapped this week on her online blog.

The actress writes about how the script of the game took a year to record but now the dub is finally finished.

A finished dub means all story elements are now set in stone and Square Enix translators can get down to the hard work of translating the game to English and finishing the English voice work which has already begun and was showcased at E3 2009.

All the elements are falling into place - FF13 is on track for release in Japan before the end of the year.

Took a year, wow. I wonder if that's revisions and what not because there can't possibly be that much dialogue can there?

1.2 - Why not add subtitles?
I'd import the Japanese version. I wonder why they didn't add English subtitles to the game /s

Give me english subs and I can happily buy it now. No need to localize it for one year.

@Shocky: What? Some English voice acting can be really great, but in my opinion (and that of many JRPG and Anime fans) the English dub is rarely superior to the original on a Japanese game. This is already the case with FFXIII, as we've samples of both tracks and the English one can't hold a candle. Again, in my opinion.

As far as I'm concerned Square needn't bother with the English dub and just include the English subtitles with the Japanese release. I and many other gamers would probably pay up to $100 to import if that were the case.

the Japanese voices better be on the blu-ray. they sounded SO MUCH better and less awkward in the trailers. at least give us the choice...

Yes, I hope Square Enix includes the Japanese language track. It's always good to have a choice. Like I've always said, from what I heard the English voice work is good so far, but it's still not Maaya Sakamoto (Lightning's character) good.

I'm pretty sure Square already said that if there was room on the Blu-ray they would have both Japanese and English tracks for the US release of the game.

360 fans however are out of luck on that one.

Sorry guys you are seriously outta luck if you want Japanese voices on the English version of FF13 for both PS3 and 360. I think an interview done even MORE recently had a Square rep state,"We aren't going to do it, because we want to keep the PS3 and 360 version equal." Since the 360 version can't hold the japanese tracks, and they don't want to make it DLC either, then the PS3 version won't have it so the USA market thinks they are equal.

It probably didn't start there either on the 360 gimping the PS3 version. Take a look at how amazing in game looks for FFVersus13, which when both it and FF13 were announced and showed off looked neck and neck. Now FF13 is the uglier version(game still looks awesome), but the 360 is the cap on what this game can do.

Honestly call me a fanboy or whatever, but I love the FF games dearly, so to see them suffer a gimp this generation right out the gate just ruins the fun of them being top tier in the graphics department.

I agree though to you saying if the Japanese version had english subtitles/menus, etc I'd be all over it.

i hope the include the japanese voice on the 360 version, even though i dont want to use that option, but in kindya fill rip-off without it, dont want the ps3 version (Achievements whore)

Lost Odyssey had around 6 voice option why not FF13?!

I think it's because there is more memory on disks being used. So the 360 version will have to be heavily compressed so there will be more than one disk, I think someone should explain this to you because I'm not a techy :/

Final fantasy games use lots and lots of pre rendered fmv that's most likely why other than smaller data capacity size of dvd obviously (though they have been reluctant to do japanese voice option even on the blu ray version which is just plain stupid ...).

What militant is saying is that Lost Odyssey had 6 language option and is a pretty darn epic JRPG with a lot of cutscenes and it's four discs(not an unreasonable amount). So FFXIII should be able to have two language options.

Lost Odyssey had very few pre rendered cut scenes almost all of the games Cut scenes were in game on the level of 99% or so.

Microsoft published the game as well which is most likely the reason they had so many languages for the game as MS was footing the bill on all those discs. Had MS not published the game Lost Odyssey would have most likely been English only and on 1 or 2 DVD's. The amount of audio alone in Lost Odyssey is more then likely the reason it's on 4 discs and not because of the length of the game.

At the end of the day there is a big difference between a Unreal Engine RPG with no pre rendered cut scenes and a Crystal tools RPG with countless pre rendered cut scenes that all take up massive amounts of space and again Microsoft will not be publishing Final Fantasy XIII so SE is going to have to pay for anything that makes FFXIII on more discs which is not exactly something they would like to do.

I can't say I care about the state of the Japanese voice work. I don't even care how close it is to release in Japan. Don't care about it at all. When the hell will the localization be done and it be on American, and more importantly Canadian shelves?

When I hear news about that, I will be interested.

6 - FFS Keep JP Voice over on Western Release
Maaya Sakamoto is voiceing Lighting!

Aka voice acting in the following (Some worth mentions list is too huge)
Wolf's Rain
Death note
Gundam
Ghost In The Shell
Naruto
.hack
hellsing
Evangalion

etc.

So you canning that voice acting for a cheesy horrible voice acting that SE are known for. I don't need a reminder of how much my ears bleed on voice acting of FFXII and I heard Star Ocean 4 voice acting is horrible.

Very true, I must admit seeing the demo and hearing about the completion of the voice work feels like two milestones. It finally feels like it will come out soon.

What I worry is that they CAN put dual track on the ps3 NA version, but decide not to do so because it will make the 360 version inferior.

I understand everyone's passion for this game and wanting to get their hands on it, but why all the hate about English dubs? Don't most of the people who visit this site speak (and complain) in ENGLISH? Why hate what you can understand without having to read? I do understand the "emptiness" that most English translations have, but I'd much rather hear my own language for a whole game rather than not understanding a damn thing going on (ala FFXIII demo).
