Enterbrain president: FFXIII and MGS 4 to help PlayStation 3 sales

Hirokazu Hamamura, The president of Enterbrain, which is the publisher of popular Japanese magazine Famitsu, gave a lecture about the current status of the console market.

He stated that unlike the Wii, the PlayStation 3 has many exclusive games that belong to famous franchises, all previously released for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. The bad thing is that most of these games don't even have a release date and that raises doubts among the fans. Once they are released, however, Hirokazu Hamamura assures that the PlayStation 3 will be in better situation than it is today.

He gave Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 as an example. As the two most expected titles for the PlayStation 3, once they are released the console will sell many units just because of them.

In addition, Hirokazu Hamamura claims that the PlayStation 3 might be cheaper by the end of 2007 due to Sony's new chip technology.

I am starting to believe the rumors about Sony lowering the price of the PS3 by 100. I can see Sony being able to do that know that the 20 gig has been killed off. This way Sony can get people that only wanted to pay the 20 gig price a better offer.

Plus even if Sony does do that and makes some people mad Sony know in the long run it would be better for them.

What's more interesting.

MGS4 and FF made by 3rd party.

Konami and Square-Unix, both commercial companies optimizing their profits. Shareholders that want to see hard cash. Cash is made on the 360 with 11 million users out there that buy 5.3 games per console average on attach rate, compared to PS3 now 2.8 million units sold selling something around 3 games per unit world wide.

Gears sold over 4 million copies in a few months. There are 14 games that sold over a million copies and some of them over 2 million. Why you'd think that other former PS exclusives came over, like GTA4, DMC4, Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3, Assassins Creed, Fatal Inertia, Bladestorm...

Could go on. Fact is, MGS4 and FF could come over. If this sells the PS3, what's the effect if these games also come to the 360. It'll be a HUGE blow to the PS3. Plus: the companies know they make big bucks with it on the 360.

I'll say it's a no brainer. MGS2 has been on XBOX 1, FF has been on 360. Could be a timed exclusive, they come for sure...

did you say MGS2 not MGS1? too bad. MGS came out on Playstation FIRST not xbox.
FF7 came out on PS but not on xbox. only ONE FF came out for xbox360 whereas 6 FF came out on Playstation. now add another FF13 to the list and bring the total to 7 FF.

might want to look at what was released on what and. the big N had MGS and FF first, then they were changed to ps0. Also MGS has had titles released on other systems than the sony brand, Xbox and gamecube both had mgs games last gen.

I cant believe how 2.6 million ps3 sold when there is few AAA games for it.. Im sure ps3 will be in far more better situation after MGS4 ,FF13 .. Heavenly sword,Lair,KZ 2 .... now ps2 is the real winner imo... low cost game production and 100 million users..

the only reason that gears sold so many copies is because there were no good games at all on the 360. what games do you remember the 360 having at the same time as gears being launched? gears was timed at the right time, near the holidays plus the graphics where good and thats it. and the other games sold because there were no games out on the same timeframe as they where out. and because of dvd you know have to purchase extra levels that wouldnt fit in the dvd cause they didnt want to use more than one dvd to back up microsofts statement that blu ray or HD DVD were not needed in games. so go buy level 9 for gears.

there are few ppl that keep it for online games.. PC is more pro for online gaming or lan specialy 4 FPS and shooter games..... and most console users want a realy fun and long single player..

I think Xbox was sold that good in xmax cuz of gears.. and its the game business.. games sell hardware, more users then better games and sell more hardware.. first party games decide the success .. and both sony and Ms done well .. so we can expect double success both for Ps3 and xbox in next 2 year..

I now have both systems an to tell the truth about the PS3(in my opinion)NOT IMPRESSED!! it takes for ever to download anything!! it took me almost 2 1/2 hours to down load the GT HD demo.the first update took about 45 minutes to complete.but...I got motorstorm it looks great an is fun as hell, but is it that AAA game that its was hyped up to be, not at all.an as far as RFOM goes I downloaded the demo an to be honest(to me) it doesn't look better than COD2, not saying that it looks bad, but just not as good as COD2, maybe because it was the demo who knows.GT HD looks awsome, probably one of the best looking racers out there, but is it anything that cant be done on the 360, not at all.

not as far as the online goes well.... what online? when I sign on xbox live I FEEL that im online. when I turn on my PS3 I dont get that feeling. all thats there is the PS3 store, where I can buy demos an stuff like that, but no real online experience. but overall I still think its a solid system!! but just WAY OVERHYPED at this point!!

ok, you are obviously a xbot and doing a poor attempt of convincing people you have a ps3. 2 1/2 hours to DL the GT demo? either you have a horrible internet connection or plainly lie, i have never seen the PS store download speed go lower than the max speed i can attain with my connection (450-500k/sec).And RFOM looks better than most of the FPS out there.

No real online experience? did you even try a game online besides motorstorm? (yes the online interface sucks but the multiplayer games are awesome)

you probably "feel" the 360 online experience in your wallet, that's the difference

My friend bought a PS3 and fall of man on launch.
He beat the game in approx. 10 hrs.
I have a feeling Sony will start charging for it's online services or parts of it.

I doubt Nintendo will since they are currently trying to get everyone online.

29 - wow to think that the ps3 sold so many units with only a handfull of games worth playing

2.5 million in 2 major contries in 4 months and then jumped up in sales well over 80 percent when they finally went global with the same minimal games is a feat like none other... it shows that the demand is there and that all people really want is to just have good games as it is the reason to purchase the hardware.... by years end when all the killer games come out. the GTA, the DMC the R&C, MGS4, Killzone, HS, and in japan GT5 and the release of home not to mention the FFX13 demo that will hit the ps3 later this year it sales will sky rocket... and especially in japan. i think that would be the first case were a downloaded title will sell many. just picture the day when square releases that demo of FF13 on psn and people in japan sign on and are greeted by that demo... word of mouth explodes and the internet erupts into flames... and download servers lagg like crazy just to get a taste of a next gen FF on a system that has it. sounds funny but a similar thing happened when square coupled the dragon quest 8 with the FF12 demo for the US and did people who dont really play dragon quest just by it to play the ff12 demo... you could bet your 2 quarters they did and a few hundred thousand ps2s complimented the game as well with sales... so say what you all want. for a six hundred dollar to sell 3.2+ million in just five months of it's release and with only a few great games and not enough to please. the release of home coming and going into beta this month.. NGS demo hittingmlater this month and it's big guns falling in at the right time for the holidays with it's biggest ones being, MGS4, killzone, HS andrachet and Clank, with your key 3rd party games, DMC4 and Assassins Creed, and GTA4 their sales will all but plumet... christmas 07 is for sony and we'll know why even more as E3 and TGS07 shows us, playable forms of KZ, (finally) FF13 and probably the new FF Herasis XIII that was pattened and copywritten, as well as Naughty Dogs jack and daxters: Lost frontier, 8 days, Ninja gaiden sigma, heck maybe even 2, and plenty more... and lets not forget about Ratchet and Clank.... expect those games to bolster sony some game sales.. because home and littlebigplanet will probably be among it's central presentation. so i dont know about you but i'm happy i'm a owner of a ps3 and those of you that are on the fence will probably be humming a different tune with the release of NGS and Lair shortly after E307...
