Eurogamer Interview: Take-Two's Ben Feder on GTA IV, Agent and more

Eurogamer writes: "You won't find too many exec interviews on Eurogamer - we usually leave that sort of thing to our friends over at GamesIndustry.biz. But we got the opportunity to speak to Ben Feder, CEO of Take-Two, at E3 this year. Seeing as he's a big deal, and his company publishes one of the most successful videogame franchises ever, we thought we'd give it a go. Read on to find out Feder's opinion of Jack Thompson, whether he thinks there's a line to be drawn with violence in games and what day GTA V is out. Maybe not the last one."

this captures everything that is wrong with games journalism this generation:

Eurogamer: Did you go to the E3 platform-holder conferences?

Ben Feder: Yes.

Eurogamer: Who won?

Ben Feder: Oh, I don't see it as a competition.

Eurogamer: But it sort of is. Everyone else thinks it is, really...

Bubbles for you anh duong.

OT I'm not holding my breath in anticipation of Agent. Its just too far off. Probably Fall 2010 at the earliest. Theres just too many other awesome looking games before then for me to get excited about. With that being said Agent game will be guaranteed awesome. Sony + R* North = Huge freaking win.

And what's with the third degree over PS3 exclusivity?

"Why go with Sony and make it a platform exclusive, instead of going for the largest installed-base possible??", questioning them as though Eurogamer really can't understand why they'd be making a PS3 exclusive. Why'd they use two question marks at the end of that question? When you start adding extra question marks it just comes off as a panicked, sort of demand for an explanation rather than a simple curiosity. Just comes off as kind of odd to me. You don't usually see journalists questioning publishers on why a game is exclusive. Did anybody ever ask why Splinter Cell Conviction is not coming to PS3? I'd actually like to hear Ubi's answer on that one, considering every other game in the series was on a Playstation platform, why suddenly is the newest one not coming to PS3? Whatever.

Actually Callahan Ubi did get questioned about it, at E3 they were questioned about it and they said it was a financial agreement, that MS helped the development and also some BS about Splinter Cell being linked to the Xbox, which although being made primarily for Xbox and being superior on it they were on the Playstation as well.

Who questioned them about it, and could you provide me with a link? The summary you gave for their reasoning actually makes good sense to me, but I'd like to read their actual response, if you could. But was it Eurogamer that questioned them, or someone else? If it was Eurogamer, I stand corrected.

Hmm I'm not actually sure, I'll go looking but those answers came from different sources. I know one of them was one of the developers but the one about the franchise being linked to the Xbox was from a higher up I think.

1.7 - Also seems to confirm GTAIV episodes are still likely to come to PS3...
"Eurogamer: Could we see GTA IV DLC on the PS3 in the future?

Ben Feder: We don't talk about that, unfortunately"

alternate source made me laugh. now we'll have a ton of articles with question marks asking 'is agent really exclusive to ps3???'

the thing is, despite GTA being a sony associated game, GTA3, Vice City and SA all came out to the xbox around a year+ later.

This makes me think that they'll have it as a ps3 exclusive in order to get a new ip out there with the support of sony. Sony will love it cus obv they get an exclusive game but i'd actually be more surprised if say a year or so after Agents release on ps3, a 360/pc version emerges.

There would be no reason why it shouldn't looking at the previous paterns. i mean the only game which wasn't on both platforms was table tennis i believe?

from what I've read about it the reasoning seems to be that being a PS3 exclusive will get the new IP noticed with all the extra hype and everything.

I'm thinking that if/when it becomes a hit after release they'll probably keep it PS3 exclusive but the sequals will be multi-platform generating a huge amount of sales and revenue just like GTA does now.

edit: while that's what I think will happen, I wouldn't be surprised if they do port it to PC/X360 like they have with previous GTA games. In those cases though, I don't remember them actually saying the games would be PS2 exclusive.

"""Ben Feder: I have a confession to make: I'm not a hardcore gamer. But I've seen the game - obviously I review all the games. I think gamers will be blown away by it."""

thats enough for me .. AGENT will be HUGE .

the second reason for that is FIRST party sony support.. the most talented people in this industry work together to make AGENT.

6 - LOL, Ben Fedrer doesn't think highly of fanboys...
About E3:

"Eurogamer: Who won?

Ben Feder: Oh, I don't see it as a competition.

Eurogamer: But it sort of is. Everyone else thinks it is, really...

Ben Feder: Well, you can take their temperature if you like!"
