The cut scenes, which are cgi (not a bad thing!), look beautiful and really do a good job of putting a bit more life into the game in between destroying tanks and throwing cars.

I was worried this game would suck. Usually when a review isn't posted until the release day it means the studio has no faith in the game, and they are hoping to sell a few copies before gamers find out it is a turd. SO cool once I finsh beating Infamous on Hard I will pick this up with Ghostbusters next week.

If you can, there is no excuse as to why you would not want to try this game out. It looks good and seems to be favored thus far. I don't purchase open world games so rental is the next best thing for me.

...you'll probably enjoy. I can only vouch for InFamous and tell you my experiences from that. As for prototype, it looks fun and funds right now are sorta lacking for me, but hopefully, I can scrounge up and get it.

I will own both, but I just beat infamous as a hero last night and I really loved the ending, and parts of the game really test weather you are a true hero. I can't wait to play through again as Infamous and see where the story goes. My advice is get Infamous because you will want to play through at least 2 times and if Prototype gets high grades pick that up too.

The reason you've heard so many rants about this game is because fanboys were always comparing this to Infamous. The Xbox fanboys wanted Prototype to murder Infamous because of "t3h phun f4cterZ" and the Sony fanboys wanted Prototype to fail so hard because of "t3h gr4fix".

All you've been listening to was fanboy BS and this game apparently turned out to be great, I'll just never understand why these people can't enjoy a damn game. Btw, that video you saw had a crappy video quality and plus it was a tutorial, so of course it's going to look boring.

funny i agreed with your E3/review comment up above. then i scroll down and i see the anti Sony comment. to be fair you are half right, but you just ignore the 360 fanboys who wanted Infamous to fail, and went on screaming how great Prototype is/will be. which is funny, because Prototype is multiplat. why the hell would Sony fans want it to fail, and why would 360 fans act as though it is an exclusive?

no idea, by the way im in no way anti-sony. I just find the sony fanboys extremely anoying, they dont even make any sense... the 360 fanboys I can see where they are coming from biased or not. When a sony fanboy says halo sucks, its not that annoying its to be expected, but when they go on with conspiracy theories and basically state that any game not developed ps3 lead platform sucks it gets annoying. Stick to facts and/or opinions, dont just pull facts out of thin air. We all know if prototype was announced as ps3 lead platform those same fanboys would say it rocks.

I know your comment wasn't directed at me, but just to be safe, if you look at my comment above you'll see I'm on neither side (I have both consoles).

Now to answer your question as to why ps3 fanboys want prototype to fail. It's because it's a sandbox game like Infamous, so when these fanboys look at it, they start bashing it because it doesn't look as good as Infamous so right away they think "OMGZ LULZ PROTOTYPE IS T3H FLOPZ".

Prototype being multiplat doesn't help its case either so Xbox fanboys charge in and say "OMG Prototype is t3h winnurz! Moar funz than t3h sh!t Infamous lulz!" When this happens, PS3 fanboys will want Prototype to fail, start bashing the graphics, judge the game from low quality videos etc...

Anyways to answer your question about the missions, I really have been trying not to spoil the experience by reading details on Missions, but lookin at the guide it looks like 90 missions in total, which is a lot, because if you look at InFamous it has about 25 story missions, around 20 - 30 side missions, and around 20 - 25 Good/Bad Karma based missions, so in total Prototype still has more.

The Guide shows a mission and a map locator of the mission and the area the entire mission plays thru. So for instance a mission my start at one end of the island and end at the other end.

correction, inFAMOUS has 15 good karma missions and then 15 bad karma missions. not sure on story and side missions though. took me about 20hrs to go through it on good, but is taking longer on evil as i'm actually making sure to collect all of the blast shards.

looking forward to reading more reviews of Prototype and possibly checking it out. hope it doesn't disappoint. i'm looking to wreak havoc in NY!

Someone said that gamespot should have it today...that's not true. The game ships today, comes out tomorrow. Some stores might have it early if they decide to unpack and put it out but primarily, you won't be playing until tomorrow.

oh you need to give RF a try... i am actually getting both games.

Red faction is a blast, one of the most enjoyable games i have played in a while. its in my collection for keeps. i just have to try and finish it before this is out.

I highly recommend it, it gets quite tuff as well and destroying the buildings just never gets old in my book. its also amazing how smooth it runs.

the story, ok maybe could have been better and some of the character development, but it really is good fun.

Get Red Faction Guerilla if you can too, it's totally awesome. The multiplayer is also pretty tight and a blast, get it, a blast...a blast, you blow things up in...never mind, I'll get me coat.

Anyway, you need to play Red Faction, its pretty good fun.

You mean the forums that have 60 PS3 user ratings at an average of 8.9 and 105 360 user ratings at 9.4? yeah, it is looking average alright. You know, you should not just read the flamebait titles on threads on gamefaqs, its just to get a rise out of people, you know, much like what you do here on N4G with comments.

You know, I just finished Infamous on hard, and the story and the fun game play is what kept me going, although it got repetitive at times especially if you want to clean up the whole city. I am expecting Prototype to be the same kind of fun and have a cool story. I absolutely loved Infamous, and Prototype is looking just as promising. I know many N4G users have a knee jerk "enthusiast" reaction to write this one off since they automatically think Infamous is where its at, however if you think that, I ask you a question, what would make Infamous better then Prototype, and vise versa?

From what I am hearing from most people who have played it is that this game is fun and has a cool story. I did not try it so I will hold judgment until then, I'm just saying what most people said who played it.

yeah, there will definitely have a sequel to infamous, and I can't wait, that game was so fun. It was very easy though, not as much as the game it self being easy because it would knock you silly now and then, but it was very forgiving. Which was cool I guess. It is one of the first times that after I died on a final boss, if I had him at a quarter health when I died, I would come back, and his life was at a quarter still.

if Prototype wants to beat inFAMOUS, i hope for a better selection of powers. there were only a few in inFAMOUS that i really really loved. the grenades are awesome, and shooting a straight ball of energy was awesome too. the others, like thunderdrop or just shooting straight electricity, was kinda lame. would've also been nice if the devs had made you able to use weapons as well.

EDIT: being able to "frog leap" is going to be bad @ss i can tell you now.

EDIT: and i'm waiting for IGN and gametrailers review to get a good look and better impressions.

I agree. That was one of the only complaints that I had. It was the fact that the powers, while cool, were still extremely basic. Also I didn't like how you were a magnet to every climbable surface. One more thing, is that the missions had the Assassin's Creed effect a lot of the time.

Other than that? good game. I'd give it about a 8.5 to 9.

IDK, one of the better things about inFAMOUS was that your powers weren't that over the top and not letting you use weapons on top was both logical(for a human conduit)and appreciated as it kept you unique.

In fact SP got the way you fit into the world just right and, for me, inFAMOUS was an unexpected treat. Both it and P'type looked like ass about a year back and the progress that they have made is, imo, incredible and though I don't see them as that similar it does mean everyone gets at least one great sandbox superpower game this summer which can't be bad.

My only real issue with inFAMOUS was , and it's true of every sandboxgame I've ever played, is the slight repetition in mission type(nowhere near as bad as GTA for that but, y'know)but the story was great and I really want to know where they go with the next game.

Prototype is really interesting and I'll be getting it with only one reservation atm: I played Madworl again the other day and I do find it hard to see exactly what's happening due to the artstyle and on the vids I've seen of P'type that's sometimes been an issue. I can't put my finger on why it's hard for me to follow but the screen does look a bit confusing to me when there's loads going on. Ah well, prolly just my aging and abused eyesight as nobody else seems to have an issue! Anyway, looks like another great game.
