Alex Ward can assure us that Burnout 5 (a working title only) will still be the game so many have come to love. "Burnout has always been about driving like a madman through traffic, and that hasn't changed at all." But, he said, "if we just made Burnout Revenge again on the PS3 and 360, no one would be satisfied with that-least of all us. [Burnout 5] is still based on the premise of driving like a maniac and crashing your car. But it's got some significant differences."

I'm f*cking ace at burnout. On Burnout 3 I did 16 whole laps burning nonstop sweeeet...it's so cool cause you have to dodge on coming traffic.

ive never played burnout, but his game looks pretty awesome. My only quibble would be with the hundereds of little pieces of "car" in the first crash pic, but other than that looks good. Now would Road Rage be part of the game, like a mode, or something else. Cuz I remember Road Rage as a kick as bike game, man I love that game, ahh the genesis days, good times.

it's a mode where you play against other cars and you have to knock them off the road and they blow up as you're driving...you have to get so many cars in a race. It's sooooo good.

Wow, the game looks amazing and if stays true to Burnout 3 & Revenge it will be a monster.
They say PS3 version is gonna be better thanks to CPU, if its true and PS3 version is really better then I have to find money to buy a PS3...

The only thing better than the Burnout games....

Burnout games online.

I can't think of any other arcade racer that gives anyone a fighting chance at winning.

The smacktalkablity (Back off it's copywrited) of Burnout online is just awesome.

Can't wait to get this one... PS3 or 360 is the only difficult decision. :)

the last burnut was on the 360 wasnt it? Well it looks ten times better than it did that time...it does look next gen and it will. But most of all it will be next gen gameplay! Something that can get 1080p out of the ps3 sweeet.

I am just curious.

I honestly think that many people expect too much from "next gen" graphics.

The only reason I ask how old you are, is because I am curious if you grew through the Atari, Collecovision, Sega Master System, Nintendo, Genesis, TurboGraphx 16, Super Nintendo, and so on systems.

I just feel that I have a much different expectation of "next gen" than a lot of other people.

Or maybe I am just getting old... Yeah more than likely.

Flatout over Burnout? Whoa...don't commit suicide dude. Burnout's just a freakin' FUN game. Do you really want VIVENDI compared to Criterion? Honestly, my friend? I'm just playin' with ya. Burnout 5 will be great.

Oh, and don't bring up the whole PS3 vs. 360 thing. Criterion already said its being ported to the 360. The 360 version will have a shorter draw-distance, slightly less smart opponents (not focused on A.I. as much), and the shading will be off because they're two COMPLETELY different structures. They said they want to start out Burnout 5 on the PS3 because the Playstation consoles don't exactly have a ceiling for graphics. He said he's pretty sure of how well the 360 and the Wii will perform in the future, but he has NO IDEA how good the PS3's graphics will get...much like the PS2.

Dude, if they can up the graphics from the 360 version, it will be amazing...cuz that was some of the best i've EVER seen. Even on the PS2 and Xbox versions...it looked beyond any racer out there...

Burnout isn't a racer to me...it's a CARNAGE/Twisted Metal game to me. They need to implement Mario Kart style racing in there too. Cuz...Full Auto SUX!!!

is probably my favourite ps2 game. Online is awesome; i almost played burnout 3 online as much as i did Halo 2 online. One of the few games i was especially good at too. Im looking forward to Burnout 5 online

...EA likes to milk gamers for everything they have however, it does not look entirely garbage. I have never been a big fan of this series because of all the generic sparks and pieces of the car that fly off. Lets face it, last gen could show car damage - this gen should be showing more realistic car damage. Not the exact same looking broken headlight or paint damage every time you hit something.

Take a look at the first image, just where exactly did all those love heart shaped pieces come from on the car?

Looks like there is still too much artistic liberty being taken to create the illusion of a spectacular collision. I'll also bet that if you're driving a circular track that the pieces from a previous wreck aren’t still sitting there smoking next time you come round.

This is supposed to be next gen! not just last gen with a bit more gloss and generic particle effects!

I can't wait for this game, i have Burnout 3 takedown on the PS2 and its excellent, i might pick this game up for my Xbox 360. Also, every single Xbox 360 game has to support some sort of online be it mutiplayer or just downloadable content. I'm pretty sure it will support both.

excellent! ive been a fan of burnout series on all playstation consoles.

Great idea Criterion. PS3 is indeed powerful and seeing so many bits flying off the car after the crash will be awesome.

I got PS3 and after playing Motorstorm, i can't imagine xbox 360 has the power to make this game fantastic. (yes i sold xbox 360 for PS3.)

play Gears and then play Resistance, both offline campaign. what do you notice?

-Gears: awesome textures, good gameplay, WEAK campaign. 2nd gen. game.
-Resistance: good textures, good gameplay, GREAT campaign. launch game.

heres's why: in Gears, all the details were put into making it the BEST looking game there is ATM. and Unreal Engine is great because EPIC has been working on it for 2-3yrs. BEFORE next gen consoles came out. Resistance, visual detail not so good great but good first effort. better than 360 launch games.

but, when it comes to the campaign, you can't help but notice that in Gears, the environment seems so dead and lifeless. there's not much of anything going on while you're shooting at baddies, the few handful that you meet at any given time. whereas in Resistance, just about every level has things going on in the background while you're shooting your way thru. and the maps are frickin huge. it feels more immersive than Gears.

not bashing Gears here. i love playing it with my buddies. just trying to help make a point. point being, the PS3 has better way of handling multiple processes.

27 - 360 version

I heard the 360 version is just Burnout Revenge from last year with some new courses. They are doing this because the 360 cannot compare or handle PS3 level games. The PS3 is just too powerful. Just ask developers like Accliam who made COD3, they couldn't get the frame rate down from 60fps to 30fps to match the glory of the PS3 version.
Or ask EA, who couldn't get those awesone long load times to match the PS3 version of FNR3.
A nice excuse for laziness on Critereon's part.

Or you could just put a note at the end instead, the problem here is that sarcasm depends a lot also on the tone of your voice. Personly i prefer discreet sarcasm as it's more complicated and has the ability to both save and destroy you, it's also generally more casual and funnier.

It was sarcasm. Just making fun of companies that say "it can only be done on system x". Like Factor 5 said about Lair. Funny, the Factor 5 guys said the same thing about their Ninendo Gamecube and N64 games. We hear this crap all the time, but by now we all pretty nuch know the 360 and PS3 balance out power-wise. There is no excuse for a developer to make such stupid comments these days. Just a cop-out for what will most likely be a poor porting job.

That being said, I am excited about B5, if they can get it to run on my measly 360. B4 on the 360 was the best so far in the series.
