NYC Politicos Get Panties in a Twist Over GTA IV Trailer

The latest version of an ultraviolent video game will unleash its murderous mayhem on the streets of New York.

And outraged political leaders say the rampant brutality of the game, Grand Theft Auto IV, has little in common with reality.

"Setting Grand Theft Auto in the safest big city in America would be like setting Halo in Disneyland," said City Councilman Peter Vallone, chairman of the Council's Public Safety Committee.

It's rated M for Mature(17+).
So I guess the kids in this case are 17-year-olds.
After all, it's not rated Adults Only(18+).

If clerks sell them to minors it's not the creator's fault.

Actually, San Andreas was rerated to Adults Only and San Andreas was patched on the PC-version.

I understand where they're coming from but, at the same time, do they condemn the creation of violent movies that are made in new york? There are many violent movies that use the city as a backdrop for their films under different names why should games be seen as different.

Maybe politicians should spend a bit more money educating children as to what wrong and right, real and fake, and less about legislating bans on video games. Guess what new york, there was violence far before any video game was made, and there will be long after. Maybe you should find the problem to violence in general than merely using videogames as scapegoat solution.

15 - i wondered how long it would take for this to start....

people are very sensitive about the whole 9/11 thing, and rightfully so. but i also hope the buildings are destructible and we can fly planes. now, both by themselves are ok, but together it could be a problem. as much as i would like to say people shouldn't be able to crash into buildings, i would feel like a hypocrite for not saying anything about the hundreds of other crimes that are committed throughout the game.

there's plenty of things people can do throughout the game that if were done in real life, would be tragic. i just think people can't try to draw a line about what people should be allowed to do, when the game itself is all about crossing that line...."hot coffee" anyone?....hmmmmm, don't mind if i do.....

some time or later we are just going to have to get over it. remember that you only see what u do in the game so if you dont crash a plane u wont have to see it, but i on the other hand cant wait to do it. it will be funny for about a minute then its been done, just like most other gta games.

Wow, it's already started and the game isn't even released yet. I'm glad GTA stirs up all of this trouble, it's helping to set new standards for future games and what people are going to have to start accepting. Just like music and movies games are starting to speak loud and clear, and it can't be stopped.

But, do you know what is most ironic? The fact that almost every superhero character in comic books reside in New York City, where bad stuff always happens. Jesus Christ these politicians are stupid.
