Why is Wipeout HD so Ego Shatteringly Hard?

"I just don't get it. I thought I was pretty good at video games but Wipeout HD makes me believe that there is this whole class of super human gamers out there able to achieve trophies my hands and thumbs could only dream of. That my friends, is a little ego shattering if you ask me."

You know what, I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I'm generally pretty trophy-obsessed but I'm at the point now that I just don't think I'll achieve any more. So unbelievably hard!!

I don't get why it's impossible to get a platinum in some games..
On the other hand it would ruin it all if they were too easy in all games.. It's great as it is now with some more hard to achieve trophies in than others.. But some games are just incredibly hard and almost impossible to beat 100% in trophies.. Why, I simply don't understand..! And this game is one of them.. Sometimes a gold trophy in a specific game is ten times easier than a bronze trophy in another game..

I like trophy lists like WipEout HD and PixelJunk Eden.

The trophies actually require hard work and skill. Two of my favourite games but my trophies for them probably wouldn't show it: 29% for Wipeout HD and 5% for Eden.

I'd actually prefer more games to take this approach and make trophies and achievements really mean something.

I agree, which is why I've downplayed achievements for so long -- because there are way too many games out there where the achievements are so damn easy to get.

Now the problem here is, PS3 games have started mandating trophy support, which means that there are also an equal number of games that have trophies that require little to no skill to get. If more games were like Wipeout HD, you wouldn't have such inflated gamerscore / trophy rankings out there.

Personally, I think that WOHD is one of the few games in this ENTIRE GENERATION that gets the reward system correct.

2 - There are some trophies I couldn't even dream of accomplishing
Like the one where you have to complete so many laps in Zone mode without touching the sides or using the steering controls. That's right, only airbraking.

!!!!!

Haha, yeah that airbreaking trophy is another challenging one. I don't have it yet, unfortunately. =(

4 - Insanely Hard
I gave up trying to get the Zico and Zone 75 (Zeus I think) trophies. I appreciate making some trophies hard but I'd be willing to bet that guy above who got a platinum is probably the only person to get those two trophies lol

Zone Zeus is absolutely impossible. Who can honestly say they can survive zone mode until speed level 75? It's just ridiculous. I've tried for days and the highest I ever got to was in the mid 40's. Level 75 is supersonic speed a.k.a. completely impossible.

Off topic, but since this is a Wipeout thread I though I might try to start some grassroots support for getting a HD Rollcage remake on PSN with the Wipeout Engine.

60fps@1080p Rollcage anyone?

Agree if you like the idea / Disagree if this doesn't interest you.

(PS3 owners ONLY please.) Thats right, if you dont have a PS3, you dont count.

I haven't actually played Rollcage but it looked similar to in style to Wipeout. It's another weapons-based driver right?

Yes. The difference was the wheels were higher then the actual vehicle. If you flipped onto the roof, the bottom became the top and you just kept going. The car had no up top or bottom so to speak.

I'm pretty sure there were lots of round tunnels so you could drive up the side and land on the roof and continue.

Plus lots of destructable environments. You could colapse bridges and slow people down.

Ah okay, that sounds very cool. Lots of potential for an HD version as well. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
