Could Fallout: New Vegas be the real Fallout 3?

Before Bethesda developed Fallout 3, a title of the same name was already well on the way until it got canceled in 2003. Codenamed Van Buren, the project was developed by some of the same people responsible for the upcoming Fallout: New Vegas.

I sure hope so. The fact that Fallout devs are working on it makes me optimistic, but at the same time them using the same gameplay style makes me worried.

Fallout 3 for me was returned to EB games a week after I bought it. It sucks in someways. the shooting without vats was horrible. Vats sometimes was horrible and was dying for no reason. The environment was so blah. The graphics were not as good to me as oblivion in the outdoor environments though character models were better the animation for women were ridiculous and need an overhaul. I loved Oblivion my always comeback to game this gen but Bethesda stick to the Elder Scrolls please. You are one of the best. Fallout 3 is not a bad game at all its that with the developers rep being so high I just expected more.

The game looks 150% better without that green filter, much more realistic and it kind of feels more like the first two games.

The fact that Fallout 3 was Fallout 3 no matter what the die hard fans say explains it all. FO:New Vegas will not be the real Fallout 3, it will in fact be Fallout 4 or Fallout 6 if you want to count the spin-offs as well. I't definitely going to be something to look for and it's nice that the old devs are working on it too, but people need to stop complaining about this. It was legally won over, meaning theres nothing your complaining will do.

do you not think there's a reason for no dlc on ps3, like an exclusive deal to ms or something...? or do you just think Bethesda just didn't want to make dlc for all formats :/

tbh from reviews your not missing all that much since it sounds like the dlc doesn't compare much to how good the main game is.

and paranoid monkey, it does look a lot better without that green filter

If they don't go with the "let's shove everything in there without any thought" development process it might be good. Someone should teach them about how restrictions can do wonders for the usability of a product.

Fallout 3 is a great game, but just like in Oblivion the levelling system is overly complex and forces you to level as the designers intended you to. If you don't the enemies become too strong and you have to restart.

Well, at least people that actually understand Fallout are making it (Obsidian, members of former Black Isle and makers of Fallout 2). Hopefully it can at least feel like Fallout. (New Reno FTW!)
