Warning: Far Cry 2 Is Still a Broken Game

On October 14, 2008 Far Cry 2 went gold - meaning the game was fully completed and sent to printers. One week later on October 21, 2008 Far Cry 2 was released in North America by Ubisoft. With an average Metacritic score of 85 - across the 360, PS3 and PC platforms - Far Cry 2 has received praise for emergent gameplay in an open world African setting. With a pretty kick ass multiplayer mode and rather robust map editor included in each version, it's not hard to see why Far Cry 2 is a triumph in the FPS genre.

GamesRadar sat in their room looking at the game on theirr shelf the other night and couldn't figure out why the game they wanted to play for months wasn't currently in their 360. And then they remembered the bad news: the game contains severe game-ending bugs in every version available.

Maddens Im jealous of your luck and the ability to smoke crack and still own some sort of personal computer that you havent sold yet.

Far Cry 2 is rubbish. Overhyped.

I loved the first Far Cry. Had it on the Xbox. Superb game.

I totally agree.

Sold mine months ago also. The re-spawning guard posts killed it for me. You couldn't drive to a mission without going through at least 3 of them. Don't get me started on the car chases and the AI catching up to you.

Now that I think of it out of all the games I've sold over the last few months this is the game I miss the most. It could have been so epic. I LOVED the feeling of walking through the jungle and how all the plants and shrubs fell as you walked over them. The game was breathtaking. To me it was more visually appealing than Killzone 2. I loved K2, but everything was so dark and grey and brown.

Just FYI, the Far Cry on Xbox was a spin-off. The first Far Cry is a PC-only game.

I know that there are similair bugs in open world games like oblivion and fallout where npc's can disappear or die randomly but in these games you can use the console to bring them back! Is there no such similair system in the PC version of far cry 2?

Congratulations! You just pointlessly compared two completely different things that have nothing to do with each other.

Enlighten me, how does someone's movie taste make their game taste pointless?

8 - Far Cry 2 was the 3rd most repetitive game this gen.
It goes like this for repetitiveness. 3rd-Far Cry 2, 2nd-GTA 4, 1st-Assassins creed. Yep.

Edit: @ andron666, No all the games I listed were not good gaming experiences. They were overhyped garbage. Especially GTA 4. Just an overhyped downgraded piece of doodie that was just trying to show off GTA in HD. Nothing more. Assassins Creed was the most repetitive game by far. That game always made me so sleepy and bored out of my mind. Just the same BS over and over again. The side missions were the biggest joke. I just cant believe I fell for the hype for these bad titles. Assassins creed I got for my birthday. It made me cry a little :( I felt so bad I asked someone to pay $60 for that piece of crap. I traded it in and only got $35 back :( I gave my friend the $35 back. It was the least I could do.

8.1 - But they were all great games and awesome experiences...
And claiming they were the most repetitive games is just wrong.

There are plenty of mediocre games that are way more repetitive than these three...

This was typical overhyped garbage from Noobiesoft *cough* I meant Ubisoft. I am never buying another game from them EVER AGAIN. I got burned with Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Prince of Persia, and this...they suck when it comes to post-launch support not to mention their games are insanely repetitive and just suck in general. I have no idea how they manage 9+ reviews, I swear they pay people off.

Another good looking lesson in frustration. I got Falloit3 and Farcry2 on the same day and within two weeks I'd got rid of both.

Fallout3 was just a massive letdown with broken FPS aiming and barmy VATS percentages that never added up and just didn't feel like a Fallout game either. Wasn't nearly as good as Oblivion either. However, I was still interested enough to finish the story arc with F3-not a bad game but a disappointment when you expect mindblowing and genre defying.

Faarcry2, on the other hand, didn't give me the option of finishing it. First time I got to about halfway, I was bored of the journeys full of the random respawning guarposts from day two, but still got to halfway before it froze up on me with no way of sorting it out.

I tried twice more but never got as far and lost the will to try because of the games other flaws. That they haven't fixed it for those hardy, or lucky, souls who like the game is bad after so long. Sort it out.

10.1 - I hear you man
Fallout 3 is another repetitive game. Its nearly impossible to find any side missions in that game. I guess its supposed to have like 100 hours of gameplay. I only managed to maybe get 10 hours out of it.

10 hours?? You obviously have no idea what you were doing. You just have to travel around and go discover everything in the world. Do that and the game will last you at least 60 hours like it did for me.

I must have gotten lucky as I didn't experience this glitch. I did skip the majority of the side missions though, if that has anything to do with it.

12.2 - I experienced 1 bug
A time I was accepting a mission from a guy in a room, and the bodyguard by the door got stuck and never closed the door, which never started the mission.

Good thing I kept many save files.

Regardless of the bugs, I found this game to be AWESOME!!! Sure a bit repetitive and the constant jeep chases were annoying, but it was VERY IMMERSIVE.

I am one of the victims. Got it back when it came out for the 360 and had 25hrs put into. I had all the side missions done that I could complete at the time and was on the second part of the map. Then when trying to the load the game up it would always freeze on me. I could start a new game no problem but I was so far into the game I couldn't bring myself to start all over again. So I sold it off.
Been thinking about renting it and installing to my HDD since I still have the save file. I still want to beat the game some day.

You people are also crazy saying Fallout 3 was a letdown. Its not impossible either to find the side missions. That was the greatest thing about the game was the side missions and going out and exploring to find them. Unless you use a guide, the exploring in the game is amazing because of how much you can see and come across. You are always finding new things in the game and not the same stuff over and over.

13.2 - Actually
I had more problems with Fallout 3 freezing than this.

After I completed Fallout 3 I could not wait to explore. The game had so much VARIETY.

Yet, I keep getting frozen screens especially during battles. It was tolerable when I did missions, but now it got worse. I eventually gave up on my exploration.

I have never had a serious problem with this game. One time it froze for about 10 seconds then continued and another time i experienced choppy framerate for about 15 seconds.

Has anyone with the Ps3 version ever experienced any of the issues that this article mention??

EDIT: I fergot about one glitch that happened to me. I was driving through the desert and started to pass out from the heat. I flew off a hill into the ground jsut as i passed out. I woke up underneath the level and everything was blue. Ending up throwing grenades at the ground to kill myself and my buddie would save me. After i was saved i was pretty much glued to the ground. Gave up and had to load my game at that point.

Half a year is ridiculous to fix an obviously broken game.
